I just wanted to say that this content is exactly what is needed. I took these tips today and applied them to my league match and it worked excellent. I only double faulted once but hit a good majority of my first serves because of this. I was doing a weird hip thing that was sort of hitching my movement but that leaning advice was perfect spot on
the fact that we get to see not just the break down of each serve, but how he explains it as the student tries to implement it. is HUGE. thats the key to this virtual tennis coaching, is hearing the stuff in-between serves. not just telling you how to do it the right way, but hearing how the coach helps as a student tries to do it. massively helpful
@@hgm8337 I get your point. But I liked it to be honest, because I can relate to him. I'm always hyper analytic and I ask and talk a lot just like that haha. I will depend on the viewer as a person, as always. I get your point too though.
This, imo, is THE BEST LESSON ON THE SERVE on TH-cam, end of story. Thank you, coach, for explaining the import of the angle of the racket at the point of contact.
I’ve only watched two or three videos of Shamir and Nicola so far, but I love the dynamic between the two guys. It couldn’t be better even if it was scripted: one tall, one short; one a master one, one a student; one reserved, the other super eager. It’s great. And on top of that, we get the great tennis lessons.
That guy was overjoyed. He learned the kick and slice in one lesson and learn to distinguish what he needs to do to accomplish them. He's like a little kid on Christmas who just got suprised with two new toys. But he knows they're gifts that will keep on giving. Part of the enjoyment of sports.
Your student has such a great attitude in learning. I’ve seen many video of him and I wish I half that personality and humbleness at a much younger age
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this lesson! It’s like I’m out on the court with you. The interaction with your students is so KEY because they ask questions that I would during a lesson. Thank you for being so comprehensive and taking the time to work with your student, stopping them when they are getting off track, and carefully demonstrating and explaining concepts. Thank you, thank you!
Just easier to either shake hands or just say thanks for the match which I and others do most the time Unless you want to start a unique procedure like Schwertkampf where gentlemen symbolically clash the racquets to end!
This is great since most videos I see are either a beginner video or an advanced showcase of the serve. This is the goldilocks of all service instruction videos! Thank you!
Shamir is a super cool dude and a great student. Some brilliant teaching there Nik. Honestly I haven't seen anyone with your approach, in teaching serves. Amazing!
It's so useful to watch you work with advanced rec players. Most of the youtube tennis instruction is not aimed at that demographic. Thanks for sharing!
This is the best video for serving, hands down!! Amazing breakdown and well explained; thank you coach Nik!! I'm a beginner, only been playing for about 4 months... used to constantly double fault, but I've improved my Flat and Slice serves dramatically with these 2 pointers: 1) toss the ball into the court and lean in (= effortless power and not hitting the ball behind my shoulder) 2) toss the ball at about 1 o'clock; then one of the below. 3a) Flat serve = just hit down on the ball 3b) Slice = hit the 'right' side of the ball. (It's SOOOOOO satisfying crunching one down the T on the 'non-deuce' side!! Get some good shape 👊🏼) My next Tennis goal is to get good at the kick serve... Mental notes for me: 1) continue to toss INTO the court, but towards 11 or 12 o'clock instead. 2) trophy position, lean, drop front shoulder... wrist position 'more neutral' and then exaggerate being sideways on contact. Wish me luck!! 🤞🏻
Another superb video Nik. Thank you! Great explanation of all the fundamentals. Presented in a way that benefits players of every level. Also your abillty to instantly recognise and correct faults and technical problems in your students technique is second to none. Quite simply the best coach on TH-cam.
Thank you for explaining racquet taps in this video! This is one area that drives me crazy when finishing matches, whether I won or lost... JUST HIT THE STRINGS!!!!
Love how you are going through the racket tap. For some weird reason the vast majority of people haven't grasped it yet... and this in May 2021! You should do a video with ONLY the tap!
Very clear explanations, and especially about the not opening up on the kick, and dropping the front shoulder down! The racquet tap tutorial is an invaluable pandemic bonus that you don't see almost anywhere else.
I've watched your videos so many times over and over and learn something from them everytime. Bringing this database of knowledge to the tennis courts however is definitely the hard part. Thanks Nikola! (Kick serve review: toss at 11/11:30, foreward momentum, keep the body sideways, turn the wrist upside down on the follow through)
I think this is the best coaching video on the serve on TH-cam and I have watched a lot! Keep up the great content 👍 I found correct weight transfer made a huge difference in power and like you say a different sound of the racket!
I wish I could find a coach like you in my area. I've taken lessons from 3 different coaches in the past 6 months and I can feel how all of them are just tryna get the hour done :(
I really enjoyed this video. I purchased your serve course and now with this video I can grasp even more information especially on the kick serve. Watching a student similar to my skill level and witnessing his mistakes and progression makes this video a great learning tool. Thanks, Ziggy
I'm only just learning to serve properly but I think I will find some of the tips from this video very useful especially with the ball toss and leaning into the court with the left shoulder dropped more.
It is good in this video that you emphasised and further demonstrated the content from your previous video on side on positioning for the Kick Serve. The videos you have made covering the Kick Serves have been quite helpful to me especially in mental queues for the processes leading up to the serve and visualising one's position beforehand. The point on the Ball toss for Kick and Slice are important especially for the Slice as it's always a more right-sided toss
There are many of the videos of this type on youtube. But this one is the only one that helped. I was hitting slice serves instead of kickers. The exaggeration of the open body for feel and the dropped lead shoulder made the difference for me. Hitting some nice kickers now and working on adding pace.
fantastic stuff, to hear the coach go through the dynamics of each type of serve & then see the coach troubleshoot the trainee real-time is brilliant. Thank you
This to me has always been the hardest thing to do!! Making a higher toss, and forcing yourself into the court is so uncomfortable because you’re not used to it. But when I actually get it right, I love the sound and I’ve learned that watching the ball into the racket makes a big difference
I tried the scooping action on my slice serve today. It was great. Made the slice so much easier for me. And, the action on the ball made it hop away from the receiver. Thanks again.
Coming back to tennis after taking many years off, and all these videos have been great to remind me of all the fundamentals you need to remember which are easy to forget and fall into basic muscle memory thanks Coach!
I have a kick serve I have spent a lot of time practicing. I have started to practice my flat serve but pronation and flick of the wrist was a hurdle at first. A slice serve was unfathomable to me. Until now. Thank you for the “scooping the ball” analogy and going over how the location of the toss and the angle and path of the racquet will dictate what type of serve it is. I will spend many hours now practicing scooping the ball for my slice serve. BTW I really appreciate and enjoy your videos. Also more importantly I like your energy in these videos as you see it clicking for Shamir. ✌🏽
I have to say a big thank you. I've been watching a lot of your videos i.e. serve, player coach point play, serve return... and many more. I won a big match today in my local league against a great server and returner. I had him guessing on the slice kick and flat. Im hoping one of these days I can do a lesson with you.
That dude is just what I am like in lessons, I think just like him, gas. Great video, not a massive fan of the coach and his style but just great to see the real lesson and the talk as if we were there. Thanks so much
Really appreciate this video! Why do coaches never teach the leaning concept with the body momentum? I had many injuries with my shoulder or my back because i had the feeiling to loose power and then force my strokes. The relationship between the toss and the body motion is now much clearer, thanks!
Thnx for this very instructive video, with the highest info-density I have ever seen! Kick serve is an absolutely nessesary to build 2nd serve security and a great winner when people underestimate that spinning effect, even through their return (hitting out all the time).
Appreciate the insight as it is both unique and functional. The tips are from someone with knowledge of tennis both as a player and as a coach which I find to be missing in most other channels.
very well explained on a level of detail that I have not even seen on essential tennis which is another favorite site. Thank you for an educational and great lesson my favorite Tennisteacher! ☺️👌
Great video. I love how you are addressing this forward lean aspect, which hardly anyone does. I would like your opinion on the most effortless or easiest way to achieve this, starting with the service stance. I watched your "Croatian Service Technique" video and I am thinking that stance, where the back foot is positioned up forward of the front foot (left foot of a right hander), kinda toeing the line also, may be the best option. It really accentuates to me the chest facing skyward as you pointed out in your Croatian video.
