Sadly, The Raid 3 won’t happen. From a interview with the director: The filmmaker opened up about why Rama wouldn’t have led The Raid 3. “I couldn't fathom of another fucking reason why he would put his life at risk and separate himself from his fucking wife and kid again,” he admits. “I was like, it can't be about Rama. It just can't, because if he does something to pull himself away from his poor fucking wife and kid again, I'd be like, ‘Hmm, you sort of deserve to die now really. Take some responsibility and be a father for a change!’” As it turns out, Rama’s final line at the end of The Raid 2, ‘I’m done’, proved prophetic. “It’s a very convenient last line of dialogue to have,” Evans laughs.
Not to Milk a Cow to Death, however, I reckon a 3rd COULD work with Rama, providing he takes his wife and child on a holiday, but the bad guys find out about it and where he stays in a hotel, they lock down the entire hotel, kidnap his kid, then his wife and either Ransom them and he has to fight his way through or he had to just fight his way through all the bad guys to get his wife and child back. We could have a gym room fight, sauna fight, banquette fight, library fight, fights in every inch of the complex. I'd be down to watch!
The raid is a perfect movie, in that it knows what it wants to be and achieves it with practically zero wasted time. I also love how he flees from a gun, showing you that guns are just as deadly in the movie as in real life. I prefer raid redemption over raid 2, just because of how tight it is.

Iko Uwais is the real deal. He's an amazing fighter and has a great screen presence. The Raid, and especially The Raid 2, are some of the best action movies of the last 10 years. So much work went into these films it's crazy. One of the stunt men really fell off one of the ledges during the shoot out when they first go in the building. He had to spend 6 months in the hospital recovering and when he got out he went back and said let's refilm the scene,we can do it better. That's the kind of dedication that reminds me of when Gainax was just starting out and was hungry to make a name for themselves with The Royal Space Force.
"If you haven't laughed your ass off at an amazing death blow in a movie you're letting the best in life pass you by; it's just a fact." - Jeremy Jahns 2020
I feel like the closest I got to that was when I was watching the first Silent Hill movie. I was definitely laughing through, but not because I found the movie funny or laughingly bad or anything - no, I was laugh with sheer glee. I remember that specifically because when the group I went with was talking about it afterward, one of them mentioned how there was some asshole in the audience laughing during the deaths and scary parts, not knowing that it was me he was talking about.
Squrtle the turtle agreed. Goes to show, you can make an amazing straight up action movie, AS WELL AS, an amazing action movie with added story, characters and development. Action movies can be done well, with or without story.
As far as action movies are concerned, The Raid is a masterpiece. I felt like Vandamme after seeing this movie. Almost did a back flip and knock out my uncle unconcious.
Captain America : Winter Soldier is pretty much inspired by The Raid The director admit it, he wanted to do the action sequences in WS as close as possible to The Raid
Ehhh... Hate to say it, but that scene was immersion breaking for me. Too many times in jw3 i couldnt help notice people "waiting" for him, keanus good an all but it was too much, too many enemies pulling their speed and getting up WAY too slow... the fight against these two nutters was the worst offender. They too good for him 😬
@@Kaimax61 yeah, JW3 had properly shown what badass and insane martial artists they were. They didn't have Keanu defeat them with some stupidly transparent plot device, and the fact they just decided to part ways instead of fighting to the death shows proper respect to these guys who legit deserve more credit.
I don't think the way they had John Wick defeat the duo was the normal bs we usually see. I think they were trying to present John Wick to be of Eastern European descent (I'm sorry if I'm getting this wrong). And one of the ways the did this was by showing him fight using combat sambo, which emphasizes grappling elements that a lot of traditional martial artists or great strikers struggle with. Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagomedov is a popular example of this.

Sadly I read just the other day the director said it's unlikely there will be a third, he did however just release a TV show, gangs of London, which has his signature action, it's closer to raid 2 with the gangland rivalries and deeper story, great so far
Jateen Parmar dammit to shit. Well I guess that’s good and bad news. I’ll happily watch whatever he directs and I’ll make up my own ending to the Raid trilogy
The Raid: Redemption and the Raid 2, got slept on, except to those action fans who don't mind reading subtitles. These are great movies and Gareth Evans is a great director.
The first time I saw it my jaw was on the floor. The action was so intense I could barely handle that shit. Didnt think they could do the same thing on part II. I was wrong. I was sooo wrong....

Hunter Ever seen Triple Threat? It’s pretty decent too. I thought the Raid was on Netflix but I can’t find it. Where do you watch these movies? Or do you own them?
Yes and no. I prefer the raid 2 over the first but some of my friends didn't like the focus on story in the sequel because they liked how direct the first movie was. I think the story is great in the sequel and gives great purpose to why Rama is fighting for his life. There's some genuinely well written moments in the sequel that I really appreciated but the fight scenes are where the sequel is better imo.
Yeah, in the same way that no other movies were made after them in that series. because there is no Godfather III. Can you imagine if they did one? Why would they? hahaha
If you want more Iko Uwais and intense action, The Night Come For Us is many times more violent and bloody. Gareth Evans was also involved in the screenplay and it's on Netflix.
Dredd was technically filmed a year before The Raid, but post-production took longer for obvious reasons. Also, both films are basically the same as Die Hard, so that whole argument is useless.
from what I've read they were written around the same time but the raid was rushed to production. but even though they're both a bit similar...maybe a lot similar, they're both awesome.
@@xxmunkiexx wait... Maybe I'm missing something. Is there some kind of consensus I'm not aware of that Dredd is a better time than The Raid? Oh shit... It's time to make another Reddit post!
One of the best things about this movie is that they clearly establish how evil and dangerous the bad guys are. For example, just before the corridor fight scene we see those guys torturing a dude. Another example is that they clearly established how much of a threat Mad Dog is. They are not just some random generic goons we see in every other action movie. We actually feel tense when Rama encounters them and we fear for his life. I love the John Wick movies but they don't have this feeling
I feel you are misinterpreting the John Wick movies. It's like the Doom franchise. The main character is an unstoppable machine and we as the audience wanna see him stylistically and brutally murder some people like the Doom Guy. The Raid is different than that and that's fine. Both franchises are good at what they do...
As an Indonesian fan of movies, I cried when Rama fought multiple thugs with his brand of Silat coz it was so, so good, I couldn't believe it. In Jakarta, my wife and I used to live in the same Apartment building with Iko Uwais's former girlfriend and I met him at the lobby, both of us in our cars as we were looking for parking space. I said to him as I rolled down the windows: Hey brother, The Raid was sssick, I'm so proud of you' He smiled, said thanks while doing 🙏 and was very humble about it
I haven't seen Merantau, but I've seen the other two. The Night comes for us is amazing, but headshot's story is just abysmally bad. The action is great, but the story turned me off to it.
If you liked Raid:Redemption, I’m going to love your reaction to Raid 2. That kitchen fight scene remains one of my favorite fight scenes. Ever. EVER!!!
Nice review, The Raid: Redemption is a great movie. The Raid 2 is (arguably) the best martial arts movie ever made and usually I would say/write something like "I envy you for being able to watch the movie for the first time" to someone who hasn't watched it yet. But watching that movie is not just breathtaking the 1st time, it stays breathtaking even after many many viewings. It's an incredible achievement and I'm looking forward to the review!
I prefer the first Raid, it is just more memorable to me. But I don't have the best eye for martial arts. What makes the second one stick out more for you?
I watched the Raid II in theaters with I think 4? of my friends. We were the only ones in that screening and it was one of the best movie experiences ever.
There is a scene in The Raid 2 that after seeing it you have to see how they filmed it. In a car chase the camera starts on the outside of one side of the car, goes in a window then goes out the other side of the car.....with no cuts. It was actually pretty cool how they filmed it.
It's because of THAT scene that I viewed a lot of the car chase in 'Extraction' in terms of attempting to figure out how they filmed it. Meanwhile, I was wrong and the director was strapped to the hood of a car!

"It's. About. Damned. Time." - a common phrase quietly uttered by every parent / friend / significant other when someone *finally* listens to common sense.
The Man from Nowhere was friggin AWESOME. Perfect pacing, mood, tension. And some of the best camera work ever. There's one scene where we follow a guy as he runs down a hallway and jumps out a window to land on the street - and the camera follows him out! Amazing.
That fight at the end is especially fantastic because if you described it as a two on one to someone who hasn't seen the movie, they might think that Rama has to fight two people himself. It's rare that it's actually the good guys having to team up on a baddie who's so badass he's still kicking the crap out of them. It makes the last fight really tense.

Sadly, The Raid 3 won’t happen. From a interview with the director:
The filmmaker opened up about why Rama wouldn’t have led The Raid 3.
Damn the more ya know
Hollywood would have churned out 3 or 4 of them by now.
@@Lance37a it would have been Raid 12: The Phoenix Rising 2
Not to Milk a Cow to Death, however, I reckon a 3rd COULD work with Rama, providing he takes his wife and child on a holiday, but the bad guys find out about it and where he stays in a hotel, they lock down the entire hotel, kidnap his kid, then his wife and either Ransom them and he has to fight his way through or he had to just fight his way through all the bad guys to get his wife and child back. We could have a gym room fight, sauna fight, banquette fight, library fight, fights in every inch of the complex. I'd be down to watch!
Honestly, I respect that
The raid is a perfect movie, in that it knows what it wants to be and achieves it with practically zero wasted time. I also love how he flees from a gun, showing you that guns are just as deadly in the movie as in real life. I prefer raid redemption over raid 2, just because of how tight it is.
I think most people aren’t surprised about this movie but a appreciated review
As an Indonesian, when the trailer first drop I didn't even believe it was an Indonesian movie lol. It's my favorite action movie of all time, best fight scene EVER. It makes me feel so happy when it gets international recognition. Bless.
Director is Welsh though. My wife is Indonesian, and loves this film.
Great movies transcend barriers.
That's because of the bule director. Indonesian directors doesn't deserve global recognition. They suck.
This movie was an insane, free-for-all, action- feasts for the eyes. Easily one of the best pure action movie of all time.
Easily one of the best martial arts films...ever
Keith Chin both Raid’s are great. Action should be done in wide shots, and John Wick, Brawl In Cell Block 99, and Dredd do this very well.
Nah, don't kid yourself thinking this is one of the best. The Raid 2 takes that spot.
The Night Comes for Us on netflix is pretty much the Raid 3 we never got.
my next watch, thanks for that. I've loved the RAID 1 & 2 for a long time now
Yeah that movie was legit too. Joe Taslim's whole crew was awesome. And Julie Estelle plays a bigger role, which is always nice lol.

Captain America : Winter Soldier is pretty much inspired by The Raid
The director admit it, he wanted to do the action sequences in WS as close as possible to The Raid
But still PG-13.. Yeah, right...
C'mon, everything knows you can't get to The Raid level without making it R-rated.
But unfortunately, The Winter Soldier suffered from what action movies in Hollywood is right now, shaky cam and quick cut editing

All the sweeter when you realize Mad Dog and the Assassin from Raid 2 have a 2v1 against John Wick in JW3.
and wasn't killed off.
One of the freakin best scenes in the Movie! 🍿

Both great action franchises, you won't be disappointed. Watch "The Night Comes For Us" on Netflix, it's going to action overload you.
Its not easy to say this, but here it goes: Best action movie ever. Raid 2 is good, but this one is a masterpiece.

Raid 2 didn't do what Raid 1 did for me.
It's up there, but the top 3 for me are still Terminator 2, Die Hard, & Fury Road.

“The raid 2” makes the raid redemption look slow! that’s how good it is see the raid 2
No
You are absolutely correct. I loved the raid redemption, but raid 2 was on another level

What disappoints me about the Raid 2 is the lack of gun battles.

The Raid: Redemption (2011)
Dredd (2012)
They were both written and filmed at about the same time but yeah, Raid still came first. This bothered me
@@Book_Of_Essence why would something so trivial bother you? 🤔
I love the John Wick movies but they don't have this feeling
mad dog the greget
