Basically, if you do very specific actions to break the game in a very specific way, you’ll be able to inject code into empty space in memory for the game to execute. This allows things like the Triforce and the Skyward Sword cutscene to be made without actually changing any of the base game’s code.
Reviving Aerith has actually happened now. There's a couple youtubers that show the unbelievably convoluted way to do it that requires multiple save states and bizarre stuff, and obviously it's not -meant- to happen in the game, but they've figured out how to get her back in your party after her death and you can keep her til the end of the game (barring a couple soft locks)
The Cow Level in Diablo 2 was actually a reference to a fake rumor for Diablo 1. The old hoax went that if you clicked on a cow enough times, it would take you to "The cow level." Much like Mortal Kombat's various rumors, it was immortalized in later entries in the series.
Blizzard even referenced it in their other games in the form of cheat codes. In the first StarCraft, typing in "thereisnocowlevel" allows you to instantly win the current mission.
@ Nope! To get to the cow level in d2 you needed to get Wirts leg from Tristram during Act 1 and a tome of town portal, put them in the Horadric cube and transmute. This would open a uniquely so orange portal that brought you to a cow level filled with bardiche wielding bovines.
I remember the Super Mario "jumping over the flagpole" rumor back in 2nd grade (I'm old, this was 1988). There was an added component that, after doing this, Mario would get a motorcycle.
So, the 1987 thing in the first fnaf wasn't a reference to the year the game took place in. It was a reference to the Bite of '87, which was referenced by the phone guy in one of the phone calls. The game itself has been assumed to be in 1993, since that year matched the minimum wage that the character earns for their paycheck at the end of the game.
FNaF1 is currently assumed to happen in 1992, actually, due to Fazbear Ent. going on Sunday-Thursday standard weekdays in FNaF2 (This would also make both FNaF1 and 2's 6th night happen on Friday the 13th). So for the triforce quest done at gdq. They basically used multiple controllers in 2 to 4 ports and button combos to basically write the code of the rom hack into the cart. The Mew Under the Truck one... You get HM Cut from the ship. Surf is later on in Fuchsia City's Safari Zone. The way to get Cut without having the ship leave is correct though. There is also a glitch to get through to the dock after it leaves, I've done it a few times but don't remember the steps anymore.
The glitch goes as follows: Teach a Pokemon Surf -> Stand infront of the NPC sailor that prevents you from entering the docks -> turn your character towards the water tile -> Save and reset -> Open Pokemon menu and use Surf -> Move downward once.

Personally, I think that 'L Is Real' sign makes MUCH more sense if it says 'eternal star'. Especially since the statue right above it... is a star. Plus, I really don't think Nintendo plotted a leak that far ahead. Why wait TWENTY FOUR YEARS just to leak your own data and confirm that Luigi WAS originally intended to be in the game? That's just silly. ALSO! On Polybius. I remember watching a video where somebody dug into the myth and after a lot of effort, found out it was a hoax some guy made up to help drive traffic to his website.
21:00 this was already solved, it's a reward for 100%ing the game. Each of the 3 icons represent each character the egg being Franklin having a new start. The ufo being Michael being alianized from his family and the man in the jetpack being tevor because he was a pilot
With that Nier: Automata Church section, it's worth nothing that, prior to this mod being released, it was thought impossible to create a modification as sophisticated as the church. There were no modding tools that allowed for creation of new areas in the game, so it was particularly perplexing. The running theory, before it was revealed as a mod, was that it was a new secret that no one heretofore had discovered. It was a bit disappointing when it was revealed as a player creation, but it was an exciting event, and the showcase of these tools are a nice consolation prize.
The Triforce in Ocarina of Time was achieved using Arbitrary Code Execution (ACE). The simplest explanation would be: Using controller inputs to re-write the game's memory on the fly while it is running. Like using CheatEngine but to completely re-write an game entirely while you're playing it.
Nah the pokeball trick is that you hold down a and the down button and hold them. This is literally the first time ive seen mention of mashing the a button.
4:45 remember two things: 1: this isn't explicitly a fetus, and is obscured by the motion effects, moreso implied than outright stated 2: Takeshi's Challenge on the Famicom lets you get drunk, divorce your wife, murder your wife and children, and then get beat to death by the yakuza on your way to karaoke. I dunno if implied infanticide is all that much darker.
Don't remember well, but I used to always glitch in a Mew for my party by doing something like shutting off my Gameboy on the golden nugget bridge at a specific point and using an Abra to teleport to the Pokemon center. Then a Mew would spawn on the bridge for you to catch. There's also like 20 ways to get a level 100 Nidogoat
Really interesting to see a lot of these easter eggs and mysteries in games, some of them I've heard of in the past. I have a few notes notes about both SMB mysteries and tricks, which are not really criticism, but some extra fun facts: - the Minus World is actually a lot different in the Famicom version of SMB1, and it can be beaten. -1 is an underwater version of 1-3/5-3, then -2 is just a copy of 7-3, and -3 is an underground variant of 4-4. Beating the world just resets the game back to the menu. There's also a "world 9", which people used to believe it was an official thing in SMB1, but it could only be accessed through glitches or hacking the ROM. This "world" actually inspired Miyamoto and his crew to add World 9 in Lost Levels as an easter egg, which was a direct callback to the wacky underwater variants in the original game. - there's one level in which you don't need to use the screen wrap bonk glitch in order to jump over the flagpole. In 3-3 if you jump right before the left weighted platform breaks, you'll end up with the second being at the peak of its height, and if you get a good running jump, you can jump over the flagpole without any glitches. It's the only level in which you can do it without the wrap glitch.
Also this ended up to be true but it took a while for people to figure it out. But the level called encrypted in btd6 it had a mystery for a while to open a portal in the middle but it took for everyone for people to find it. So mabey mention thst
The infamous luigi headstone is literally not even any real script and language. Its just placeholder squiggles like when you make --- ------ --- --- as a kid in a drawing to implicate text Its the ingame text equivalent of a rorschach test.
Our playground version of the pokeball myth was holding B on the game boy and then holding both a and b on the ds and one time one of us tested it by doing 5 pokeballs holding B, all 5 were caught and then doing the same without pressing a button and all 5 failed Except we didn’t know that health and pokemon determined it and all 5 of the failed catches were trying to catch Lugia
7:50 correction: you dont get surf from the boat, and mew is ordinarily unobtainable. In order to unlock the move surf, you have to beat the Vermillion Gym, which is locked behind Cuttable trees. You obtain the HM for Cut on the boat. Next, without hacking, Mew is only obtainable in 2 ways: 1) a complicated glitch, and 2) a very brief real life distribution event. A lot of the rumours around hidden pokemon in gen 1 (often also referred to as Pokegods) came about because of Mew's elusiveness.
18:48 The rumor I heard was slightly different, you had to time the button press JUST as the ball closes and hold the button, that's what increased the chances. At least, in my area and decade XD
About the personalize mario 64 thing, i swear i rememeber a tollbooth at the other side of the courtyard. Like bro i rememeber it so vividly. Am i trippin?
Earthbound is full of other implied mature themes, and I don't think there's any way Giygas' baby shape could have been unintentional. I don't know if it was supposed to be in utero specifically, but there's definitely some infanticide going on.
I completely agree, the Reddit thread he pulled up of the "facts" against the theory were all bullshit. The points they stated in the post made no sense, the amount of stuff Nintendo has let slide in their games, especially at the time is crazy. Saying that it wouldn't be allowed is naive, and a moot point. I never noticed the baby shape in the wall, but that has me even more convinced. On top of the whole "going back to an early, weaker Giygas" thing makes sense, If he is the strongest being of all time and killing him would save the world, why would you not go back to when he is in his earliest form, IE: a baby or some equivalent.
@@half-eatendonut9864 exceept he would be gigyu, not gigyus, and even flipping gigyus's sprite shows its a distorted gigyu, granted i think the theory is plausible but i think its still a little bit of coincidence at work
fr tho the real trick is sliding/pressing the powerbutton gently enough to not set off the power, but enough to manipulate the frames to maximize your catch percentage
The Tails Doll stuff was wild, I remember when people said that if you played tag and tagged characters in a certain order, then went to the bathroom at midnight and played "Can you Feel the Sunshine" (Living in the City in some accounts) backwards, Tails Doll would come from the mirror and eat your soul. All these years later and I still can't believe the absurdity of that story. Was it a creepypasta?
I think the "every copy of SM64 is personalized" may have been born from the fact there ARE some differences like enemy and items placement between the US and JP versions of the game. So someone that played both versions without knowing there was actually some differences between them might have thought that something was wrong without knowing WHY.
There's no "2401" on the statue, it's just gibberish, and people went "L is real was true!" when the leak happened which is pure historical revisionism (in those saying it seriously) because the claim wasn't "Luigi was going to be in Mario 64" it was "Luigi IS in Mario 64 and you can find him/play as him". And of course it's coincidence because that's how "predictions" and shit always work.
The missingno purpose is actually quite simple. Its just a failsafe. If you encounter a pokemon, thats not a valid id, itd crash the game. Misisngno exists so that if you got an invalid id, theres placeholder data loaded.
I wished the MJ Sonic 3 collab was never confirmed, because now every re release of Sonic 3 has those horrible prototype tracks replacing the classic MJ worked tracks.
Giygas succeeds in what it is supposed to do imo. I always saw it as a incomprehensible mess that your brain is supposed to fill the blanks of. So some seeing it as a fetus makes sense even if that was not the intention.
"L is real" has a pretty silly explanation that I got from youtube comments and even though I can't prove it, I still stick with it because of how funny I find it. The incredibly shrunken and pixelated text is actually "top text bottom text" in Japanese.
32:43 this reminded me of a dream i had when i was a kid involving Smw it was totally a dream altough i remember getting confused at the time since i wasnt used to have mostly "realistic" dreams, but it basically goes like this: i had just beaten the game but instead of the scene of bowser flying away and leaving peach behind the game goes to a stage clear scene and then back to the map, i hear that noise of a spin jump stomp and the castle vanishes, weirdly every time i move my character this sound repete and the stage i had moved from gets gray, hence and repete until im back on yoshi island and when i reach yoshi's house the tv goes blank, i leave the tv to go play outside and hear a massive explosion noise, i run back and the tv is not there anymore
Missingno: Adding onto this, the sprites we see is a compressed version of the actual sprite. The youtube channel Retro Game Mechanics Explained has a video titled "MissingNo.'s Glitchy Appearance Explained" that explains how sprites are loaded into the game, and how Missingno is too large to fit in the designated area so parts of the sprite overwrite previous parts. The follow up video "Fixing Glitch Pokémon Sprites"expands on the previous video by showing what the full sprites could look like. Mew in the truck myth: Not too long ago, prototype data for Red/Green was given to Helix Chamber, who eventually shared a zip file of the assets. In one of the folders is a bunch of area maps, and in at least one of them is the truck that appears in the S.S Anne area, so it's more likely that Gamefreak repurposed an old area, or reused the assets and didn't think anyone would get into that area.
One of the first urban myths I encountered when I was young is the one around the unbeatable race in ocarina of time. I looked it up wanting to know if there was a way to win and found a fake video the seemingly did and created a different one where the running man said your reward was in the sky temple being another place that didn’t exist exist. I recently found that hackers made it so the timer had 0 seconds and it still said you lost by one.
I totally fell for the "mewto under the truck" rumor back as a kid. School yard rumors back in the day caught like wildfire. Reminds me of my own child gullibility as i remember one time as a kid going through an issue of nintendo power (probably around 1999 or 2000) I cant remember the exact issue but it had a long joke article about how scientists were building real life mario warp tubes and how it was going to be the future of transportation. I ate that shit up as a kid and thought it was 100% real and i told all my friends on the playground about it cause obviously it was real and nintendo power wouldnt just joke around like that, right?
Over an hour of Gambado goodness, this pleases me. Also: That Petscope shlt still disturbs me to this day, i don't think i'll ever get that out of my head, what they did to that child is the most horrific thing i've ever heard of, slowly smothering her to death while taunting her, it pisses me off so much that those sick fvckers didn't get the death penalty for that, most disturbing part is the child got no justice.
Dunno if these are in future parts of the iceberg (I didn't check the chart earlier in the video), but two good ones would be Halo 2's Golden Warthog and MW2 (2009)'s Old Lady hoax
Earthbound is also known as Mother 3 and is a part of a series of games. I don’t know much about them but maybe they’re is an answer in one of the other MOTHER games?
Like i said before: One of the Scary parts about the game is the Backstory and Lore of some of the Spirits, like Toiletta, a Little Ghost girl with large, empty black eyes who is Based in Hanako-san born form the World war 2. And a top of that She have her own quest in the game when you have to face not only her, but also a Giant hideous Yokai Spider that clings on the Roof of the Bathroom.
19:37 I never heard the mash A button. I was always under the impression that it was Down+A which is something I still do even in the modern games and even if it may be a placebo it works lol
18:17

You could actually acess hidden palace zone in the original. It was very incomplete and short but you could acess it through the level select
I refuse to believe blowing the cartridge didn’t work
love these videos keep making more and only good will come
I 100% believed Lavander Town Syndrome was real when I was 13 🤦♀
Find someone who didnt 😂
I was even younger! Yeah, I uh... did too...
52:34 no, 1987 marks the date of the bite of 87 and the FnaF 2 location, not the FnaF 1 location which comes in the 90’s

Another ice berg video let’s go I miss them
7:40 You don't get Surf in the ship, the HM you get there is Cut. Surf is obtained as a prize for going all the way through theSafari Zone.
I knew someone would catch this
I remember me and my sis freaking out over the lavender town creepypasta after reading up about the first time we found out about creepypastas slenderman sonic exe and Ben drowned and lavender town is what did it for me
Finally, another Gambado video to watch while eating lunch!
L is real technically isn’t an urban legend anymore. It’s actually (technically) real
Okay, for that intro prediction of Rock being Herobrine you have earned yourself a Subscribe!
21:00 this was already solved, it's a reward for 100%ing the game. Each of the 3 icons represent each character the egg being Franklin having a new start. The ufo being Michael being alianized from his family and the man in the jetpack being tevor because he was a pilot
What is the reward? Seeing the UFO?
@@erdinc2590 yep lol
"I'm not going to talk about the ET mass grave"
Talks about ET mass grave😂
It’s insane you don’t have more subscribers. You have good comedy, a good voice, and interesting video topics.
Yoooo love your work!
Nah the pokeball trick is that you hold down a and the down button and hold them. This is literally the first time ive seen mention of mashing the a button.
The way I heard it is you have to press the buttons depending which direction the ball moves
4:45 remember two things:
1: this isn't explicitly a fetus, and is obscured by the motion effects, moreso implied than outright stated
2: Takeshi's Challenge on the Famicom lets you get drunk, divorce your wife, murder your wife and children, and then get beat to death by the yakuza on your way to karaoke.
I have a few notes notes about both SMB mysteries and tricks, which are not really criticism, but some extra fun facts:
- the Minus World is actually a lot different in the Famicom version of SMB1, and it can be beaten.
So mabey mention thst
had fun listening to this while working on halloween, much love gambadogaming.
The infamous luigi headstone is literally not even any real script and language. Its just placeholder squiggles like when you make --- ------ --- --- as a kid in a drawing to implicate text
Its the ingame text equivalent of a rorschach test.
Our playground version of the pokeball myth was holding B on the game boy and then holding both a and b on the ds and one time one of us tested it by doing 5 pokeballs holding B, all 5 were caught and then doing the same without pressing a button and all 5 failed
Except we didn’t know that health and pokemon determined it and all 5 of the failed catches were trying to catch Lugia
no clearly you failed bc you didnt press b duhhhh
34:40 ROBOT 64 MENTIONED
6:59 that is NOT missingno! that’s Decamark!
At least, in my area and decade XD
the silly editing in your videos is some top notch shit
About the personalize mario 64 thing, i swear i rememeber a tollbooth at the other side of the courtyard. Like bro i rememeber it so vividly. Am i trippin?
My understanding was that "bailey" is Australian slang for swimsuit, hence just in bailey.
@@half-eatendonut9864 exceept he would be gigyu, not gigyus, and even flipping gigyus's sprite shows its a distorted gigyu, granted i think the theory is plausible but i think its still a little bit of coincidence at work
You dont mash A to catch pokemon easier. You hold up and B when the ball opens 😂
fr tho the real trick is sliding/pressing the powerbutton gently enough to not set off the power, but enough to manipulate the frames to maximize your catch percentage
@@AnAverageGoblin wow that’s next level 😂
"Watch Swankybox"
I would if his channel wasn't dead
Holding down was what I was told would increase the chances of getting the pokemon
5:52 everytime mentions "L is real 2401" they never mention that the plaque actually says Eternal Star
The missingno purpose is actually quite simple. Its just a failsafe.
If you encounter a pokemon, thats not a valid id, itd crash the game. Misisngno exists so that if you got an invalid id, theres placeholder data loaded.
Not only was this super interesting, you are funny as hell 😂
I wished the MJ Sonic 3 collab was never confirmed, because now every re release of Sonic 3 has those horrible prototype tracks replacing the classic MJ worked tracks.
Yooo the Mullet Mike Creepy Gaming shoutout! Memories 😂
my first video of yours ive watched and... wow... new sub!
Giygas succeeds in what it is supposed to do imo. I always saw it as a incomprehensible mess that your brain is supposed to fill the blanks of. So some seeing it as a fetus makes sense even if that was not the intention.
Gambado gaming ice berg videos make me rub my belly and let out a jolly chuckle
But seriously I love these
"L is real" has a pretty silly explanation that I got from youtube comments and even though I can't prove it, I still stick with it because of how funny I find it.
The incredibly shrunken and pixelated text is actually "top text bottom text" in Japanese.
32:43 this reminded me of a dream i had when i was a kid involving Smw
it was totally a dream altough i remember getting confused at the time since i wasnt used to have mostly "realistic" dreams, but it basically goes like this:
i had just beaten the game but instead of the scene of bowser flying away and leaving peach behind the game goes to a stage clear scene and then back to the map, i hear that noise of a spin jump stomp and the castle vanishes, weirdly every time i move my character this sound repete and the stage i had moved from gets gray, hence and repete until im back on yoshi island and when i reach yoshi's house the tv goes blank, i leave the tv to go play outside and hear a massive explosion noise, i run back and the tv is not there anymore
I still mash A in Pokemon 😂😂
Great iceberg video very nice
Thank you for this video
Dunno if these are in future parts of the iceberg (I didn't check the chart earlier in the video), but two good ones would be Halo 2's Golden Warthog and MW2 (2009)'s Old Lady hoax
Earthbound is also known as Mother 3 and is a part of a series of games. I don’t know much about them but maybe they’re is an answer in one of the other MOTHER games?
You mean Mother 2 not 3
@@Belphegirl like I said I don’t know much about the games
Scaring/traumatizing pirates with creepy anti piracy screens is something we should bring back.
18:34 him saying skyward sword instead of breath of the wild here killed me lmaoo
19:37 I never heard the mash A button. I was always under the impression that it was Down+A which is something I still do even in the modern games and even if it may be a placebo it works lol
