  • This unique gadget cache is easy to find but difficult to figure out how to open. I will show you the cache then spend some time showing you how to build it. This geocache takes most cachers over and hour to solve.

    I wish I lived in your area. I love these puzzle caches. I can't think of anything more boring than turning up to find yet another nano magnetised to a sign. I personally have several puzzle type caches which people enjoy.

    This cache has now been archived. It was a great cache, with over 700 favs. But, it has had so many finds, that it was time to put a new cache in its place. I like rotating them from time to time. Near the same location is my new cache ..... GC6CGHA , SCBC ABC's of geocaching.

    Andrew, wish there was geocaching when I was young. Stck with it, just think how many finds you will have when you get to be as old as I am. : ) You will see lots of changes in this hobby in your lifetime. Good luck.

    You might be correct. It's hard to know what to rate some of these caches. Like everything, some find it easy and then I get PAF's from people who have been there for half and hour and have no idea of even where to start. I put my # on the bottom of this cache, so cachers can call if they get stuck.

    That is so great. We just started hiding our own caches about 2 months ago and I am always looking for different and unique ideas for a cache. This is giving me a ton of new ideas inspired by your creation. Thank you so much for the upload!

    From WVTim:
    Archive Archive 03/03/2016
    Wow what can I say about this cache. It's really kind of sad to archive it, but after several years in a prime spot, I think its good to rotate a cache out. I know when I drive on the interstates, I have found most of the caches at the rest stops, its always good to find a new cache. So, this one is leaving so another great gadget cache can come along.
    I so much appreciate everyone who has visited and a BIG thanks to all the visitor's who gave me a favorite vote. Those are a real encouragement to me and I very much appreciate your thoughtfulness.
    This cache had my phone number on it, so I have had the opportunity to talk to hundreds and hundreds of caches over the last several years.
    This cache was one of the early gadget caches. It has now been copied in almost every state, and at least a dozen or more countries.
    The cache taking its place nearby hopefully will live up the reputation set by this cache.
    Again, Thank you and hopefully you will come back and visit WV again soon.

    Hi, I love all of your gadget caches! Thank you so much for posting these videos. Where do you buy the little keyholes that you have on this cache? Do you have a page somewhere with links to what is needed to build your caches? I just started geocaching and would like to build some of my own gadget caches in my hometown in Michigan. Thank you!

  • @gadgetcaches
    @gadgetcaches  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is a good question and a very valid one. Many of my caches I have invested and embarrassing amount of time. Some are very complex and I have found that my caches have a "better" chance of survival if they are premium member caches. I still get premium members taking "tools" to my caches but not as frequent as if they were available to everyone.

  • @gadgetcaches
    @gadgetcaches  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes I do. I get them especially bad on one cache - Hi-Tech. With that cache those bugs can crawl up the pipe into the cache. Doesn't seen to bother the cache, just freaks me out when I go in to do maintenance.
    I have found, that where I can, I seal my cracks with chalk from the inside. That really seem to help. It is especially useful to do that on the seams nearest the tree.

    This is an awesome cache. I love finding ones like this. I try to go for at least 2.5 and above when I am searching. I am getting a little tired of the lpc's that people are using. Don't get me wrong. I will find those all day. I just enjoy a little challenge. I have logged a dnf 4 times now on a 3/1.5. But I will find it. Can you tell me the gc code of some of yours. We have family in Elkins, and the next time we go that way I would love to try and find some of these. Thanks for the video and thanks for keeping my favorite game fun.

    First I would like to say awesome idea and thanks for investing your time and money for something for other people to enjoy I went to search for this on the website and it's for premium members only I was thinking about doing this with my kids as a hobby I wanted to show them that there are ways to have fun that don't involve spending a ton of money and I got excited then I was pretty disappointed to see I had to pay a premium fee to get the coordinates to your cache I'm not saying I wouldn't do it would you be willing to explain where my membership fee money will go if I sign up to be a premium member might make it a little easier to join

    • @gadgetcaches
      @gadgetcaches  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Darrell, geocaching.com gives you a GREAT explanation of the benefits of a premium membership. There are MANY benefits, just ONE being able to access premium member caches. I personally find, that premium members "normally" take better care of my caches. My caches are very expensive to built, I have thousands of dollars in my 100 active caches. When they are NOT premium member the damage to my caches increase significantly.

    Van Dyke's Restorers is where I purchased the Cast Brass Keyhole Escutcheons. There are 4 of them. I put one for each number on the combo. They don't work, but are placed to get the cacher thinking. They have nothing to do with solving the cache, but that is the first thing people do, is try the key in the escutcheons. The skeleton key was purchased on ebay. Be sure NOT to buy ornamental skeleton key. Only the old ones are made out of iron, and thus are magnetic.

      @gadgetcaches  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use many different things, sometimes I don't coat them, I just put a couple good coats of paint on the cache. I have used Famwood, and I have sprayed some with a exterior poly I buy at Lowes. This one I coated, because I didn't want the numbers to fade.

    Circle around a number means you use that one to open it after the Underlined number is subtracted. A Number below two numbers gives you the sequence of the combination.
    That should open the combo lock. Although the skeleton key is aesthetic it is just that.

    The key I purchased on ebay. You need to make sure they are "real" skeleton keys ( old) . Modern key are not made of iron and are not magnetic. Can't buy these at your hardware store. I even when to a locksmith looking.
    The key holders I purchased on line at Kennedy Hardware. E-1B about $1.45 apiece.

    Hello, I have recently started geocaching and I am also writing a paper for school about geocaching. So I have some questions that I would like answered
    Would you say the geocaching brings people together? if so why?
    Are there any communities that you know about that talk about there caches?
    Would you say that you learn from geocaching'
    Would you consider geocaching engaging? Why or why not?
    Do people make there own geocaches if so how?
    Anyone who can answer these questions and add more question for others to answer would be really helpful for my paper I am writing in college, Thank you
