- Great for anything: travels, dinners, acknowledging new musical traditions based on flexions of the occidental canon inspirated by Ethiopia's traditional music by native Ethiops, etc... Yes, I inverted B and A sides, ty stefankempkes3769 and skatethasimpsons for pointing it out.
B
Bahta Gebre Hiwot - Ewnet Yet Lagegnesh 00:00
Mulatu Astatke - Yegele Tezeta 02:45
Bahta Gebre Hiwot - Bemgnot Alnorm 06:01
Mulatu Astatke - Ykermo Saw 08:37
Tesfa Mariam Kidane - Heiwote 12:53
A
Mulatu Astatke - Munaye Bahta 18:12
Mulatu Astatke - Meche Dereshe 23:16
Tesfa Mariam Kidane - Yetesfa Tezeta 27:13
Mulatu Astatke - Kasalefkut Hulu 29:52
Mulatu Astatke - Tezeta 32:36
I do not own this music. I do not monetize this. I will remove this if authorship is enforced. People must have the option to listen this because it is good or have historical value. Ty for your attention and a nice day for you too.
Thanks for this playlist.
Quick note, Mulatu Astatke - Tezeta 12:53 and Tesfa Mariam Kidane - Heiwote 32:36 are the wrong way around :)
Ty for the rectification. Gonna pin this.
@@sculpture151 The A and B sides are swapped. That's why everything is mixed up.
@@skatethasimpsons Which version and recording company? I didnt found any release of this which dont start with Munaye and ends with Heiwote.

@@sculpture151 Yes, it starts with Munaye and ends with Heiwote. But in this upload the first track is 'Bahta Gebre Hiwot - Ewnet Yet Lagegnesh' (actually the first track on the B-Side), which is mistakenly called 'Munaye'. Last track here is Tezeta (actually the last track on the A-Side), mistakenly called Heiwote. Check the bandcamp site of this release for confirmation.
Thx for the upload btw, this one is essential
@@skatethasimpsons I see, I understand now! Ty again!
It's things like this that make TH-cam the best social media platform. I probably never would have learned about modern Ethiopian music if it weren't for people posting on TH-cam.
Right on
This is old. But you can google Ethiopian Music 2024 and find the new stuff from the past few years.
Somewhat limited with the wars, but still lots of muaic.

No lyrics, no autotune, second-rate recording equipment, worn-out instruments, great musicians, creativity = excellence.
i don't þink þey had autotune in 1972.

I bet many people here whenever they thought of Ethiopia, they thought of famine or wars. Never of music as cool as this.

Wow aren't you a critical thinker?

Ethiopia? Where it is? Ah, this is the country where they play this spiritual jazz.
Thanks!
After hearing this just ordered my self the lp (reissue)
Where from?
I love this. I first heard these songs in the movie Broken Flowers and have been trying to find them. Then this morning the thumbnail shows up on the home page. It's gonna be a very blessed day. Thank you!
The day I saw Broken Flowers I arrived home to the art gallery I was living in to find the band Dengue Fever (also on the Broken Flowers soundtrack) doing a sound rehearsal for a gig later that evening. They had changed their sound from the Ethiopian jazz that was in the soundtrack to Cambodian pop. We hosted a lot of shows of questionable talent but Dengue Fever was fantastic.
Wonderful. What spirit. Greetings to Mama Africa from Austria, Scott
Ethiopian sounds.
It's good for the heart.
ethiopian jazz is so hypnotic and intriguing!
I found some amha records in a flee market in Sweden and now im here.
Flee Market would be a good name for a store that sells clothing for people on the lam.
Intelligent complex and mysterious, and what a jazzy outfit!
I was expecting some weird business I never herd before. This is just lovely.
You are doing the world a great service by sharing this! Ty ty ty ❤️❤️
これは1950年代の日本で試されるべきでした。残念なことにその後日本ではジャズもロックもそれらの旋律はアメリカナイズされてしまいました。
well, jazz, and rock, were very British and American in their origins, came into being in New York and London and Paris etc etc
i know it's got other influences too though
I remember this MOOD WHEN WAS I PHAROAH.
This is telling me of a place I’ve been before…in another life. Wow💎💎💎
This is just maddddddddddddddddddddd.... hit after hit...
I'm pretty sure the 2nd song was used in the film Broken Flowers by Jim Jarmusch . A great film and soundtrack.
I think this is also on one of the Ethiopiques compilations.
Like zoinks, you guys, this abandoned factory sure is spooky

I don't get the Scooby-Doo references. Care to explain?
@@hektors1234 basically we're saying that the ghosts who are celebrating this stuff are the same ones who kept it stuff hidden in the first place.

Qué bella música. Un éxtasis para los oídos. Gracias por subirla. Desde Lima (Perú)
interesting surname for Peru! are there many Scots there? I'm not sure of the history
(04/05/2024; 11:19 hs.)
hi! it's probably "modes" they are using.. it's basically a major scale but people start the scale from different notes within it, which creates the different sounding "scales" that are really based on the one pattern but starting from different "roots" within the scale
this creates the Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, lydian, myxolidian and other "modes" based on what "root" note of the major scale you "start" on
i could be wrong but that is often how jazz influenced "scales" and chord progressions are built up
@@CastleHassall (13/05/2024; 00.16 hs.) -- ¡Hola! Digo escalas o modos árabes porque hay mucho intervalo de tono y medio, lo cual es inusual en la música occidental más tradicional. ¡Saludos desde Argentina!
Un grand merci pour cette découverte.
