Learn how to play I Thank You, as performed by ZZ top released in 1979 as part of their Degüello album. A great cover tune from the original Sam & Dave version from 1968, but ZZ Top fully made it their own with their flavor on it.
The lesson covers all the tasty lead bits and how the rhythm/verse sections are played on guitar.

The Reverend never wastes a note. Love the old ZZ top tunes
The way u described Billy at 1:00 is the best articulation I've ever heard...That's as accurate as u can get...Thank u for all the great lessons...
sounds ABSOLUTELY PHENOMENAL out of my darn phone.... i gotta get my stereo rig going again
OH YEAH!!!!!! Now you’re digging in to the good stuff. For the lesson……I thank you!!!!!
Have Mercy!!!
Love Billy's licks. Hard to believe he plays on 7's I play on 9's myself, but he does say why have to play harder Nice 12 Ft ♪♫♪♫♪♫
Thank you so much for this valuable lesson and you're right it is a great tune buy and icon band
Your teaching style works well for me. I'm not a good player but you've made me so much better. "You didn't have to make it like you did, but you did, but you did. And I thank you!"
Thank so much! Glad you are getting stuff out of these!
A great example of tone being in the fingers. Love BFG!!
Nice!👍🎵From the Deguello Album. When my son was little it was his first favorite song.🎵
Great Song choice!!! Nice Gibbons sound for the strat!!
great song...nicely shown...picked up some more Billy gems here.....thanks a lot....cheers
sadly i'm here in england for 3 weeks without (!!!) guitar......
Great groove. Thanks!
brillant lesson !
Really like your videos!!! Definitely one of my go to guys for song instruction. Top notch stuff👍
Awesome! Thank you!
awesome!
Would interesting if you mentioned how he plays it live. ‘I Thank You’ for this fine lesson.
Great job explaining!
I thank you, great class🤘
Thanks! My band just picked this one up. Nice tips.
excellent
Sounds great! 💯
Thank you!
音作りを含めて勉強になりました。ありがとうございます。
Best song to listen to after you get a piece.
Thank you!
That's exactly how you play pinched harmonics, but very small adjustments to the point on the string were the thumb hits makes a difference to how the harmonic sounds.
Love your lessons. Might I suggest Balinese? But whatever you do, I’ll be tuning in. Thanks for what you do. Peace.
Fantastic. Thankx!
I heard The Rev uses a Peso for a plectrum. I can't say that he always does, but I used to prefer metal picks (currently prefer Tortex).... and they definitely give it a bit more -- bite?
I've tried plenty of different coins as well, though never a Peso. Imo, a US dime sounds the best. A very pleasing sound. A dime is somewhat difficult to use cos of how small they are.... though that also lends itself well to pinch harmonics.
Keep em comin, my friend.
Can't get enough of this channel!
You’ve got some very thorough lessons, my good man! Great tunes. Keep ‘em coming. Love what yer doin. How bout doing some Allman Brothers at some point?
Love ZZ Top!! Great song and video!
You nailed it sounds like Billy
Just been ploughing through some of your Jimmy Page lessons. How about a Celebration Day from zep III. Or Since I've Been Loving You?
Good tutorial, but during the verses, Billy plays thumb-over at the 5th fret, grabbing the A there, with the C and D triads being alternated underneath. You can clearly see him doing that at Live at Daryl's, and 1980's Old Grey Whistle Test performances.
Can you imagine Gibbons relaxin at home watchin these videos and given a nod to the good ones - how cool - you know he is watchin - hope he is reading comments - Hey Billy - love the stories of the bait shop amplifiers, the house painter with your Gibson Moderne, the don't work so hard light string gauges - oh yeah and what year Peso for a pick do you need to get that tone? Great interpretation of this song - keep up the good work
Fantastic
How about Chevrolet!
Wouldn't it be great if there was a Pinched Harmonics Pedal?! Chords would sound insane.
There is such a pedal. It’s called Zakk Wylde 😂😜
Just recently found your channel. Great stuff! If you're in the mood to do some more of the Reverend Willie G, would love to see a lesson on my favorite ZZ Top tune - I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide
Welcome, glad you found it! That song is def on my list
Chevrolet next please?
Great lesson on one of my top ZZ songs...and the list is long...
I think that's a cover.
Yep, Sam & Dave
If ever you decide to do more ZZ TOP lessons it would be nice to hear master of the sparks, luv your channel keep at it 🤘🏻
I did not know it was a cover. I thank you for turning me on to that. S & D did it killer, too. My old aging self still loves discovering new (to me) things and I would not have without great channels like 12 chains.
