Its crazy how in only 12 years the vehicles and technology has changed everything. Now the majority of the vehicles are tube buggy, coilovers, and lockers front and rear. And that's just the tip of it. Im loving the background music.
+12jeeplover and stuff like the guy pushing the rear end of that jeep would never fly now because its "unsafe", and my response is dont be an idiot and what would you do out wheeling?
Lovin it, back in the day when everyday wheeling rigs with leafsprings and shocks could wheel in top truck challenges, not just buggys with rockwells rear steering and coilovers with 500+hp engines, these were everyday wheeling rigs, the kind we bring out on weekends and have some fun with
+Tre Funk be nice if they bought it back to driver skill depth rather than driver pocket depth eh, starting to think there is some call for a track style formula limiting wheelbase, tyres, power, suspension systems, steering to the front, 2 axles, etc..... or perhaps even a single make challenge. everyone starts with a wrangler or SWB landcruiser 70 (they dont sell em in the states but do in canada, in one dealer lol) or something
Hey there i am! I'm the spotter in the yellow willys'ish thing. Crazy thinking back onto that comp. We put a hole in the side wall of the tire coming at the end.
That orange Jimmy came up for sale on Facebook marketplace for 7500$ a few weeks ago. It looks the same except that it’s very rough now and has been parked outside for years.
I wanna see that yellow "Jeep" with modern long travel coils. That thing is interesting. Terrible looking ride quality but the articulation would be sweet.
Awesome vid. Think I prefer the vehicles to those in the 2015 Top Truck Challenge, most of these are a bit more regular truck like. I do wonder however, how a British 80" Land Rover CCVT motor would do on such a course. Reckon it'd be ideal tbh.
yo mister p the yellow truck has loads of travel it has almost the same set up as the rest twin solid state steering axles with a sprung cab the axles pivot from the center allowing huge articulation it's also miles tuff'er
Please stop slowing the videos down and STOP playing the music. Killing the video all together. I enjoy a basic video with nothing done to it. Makes it so much better.
J0rMaHD Yeah, was thinking it was. I'm hoping someone from the maker of the DVD will listen. I really enjoy the show, but not with all of the dramatization and music. It's better just plain and simple. I like to hear the engines and things breaking. Not hearing music, then the commentator say "I heard something broke...what was it". Nothing against you. :)
I cant believe that it was ok to enter a vehicle in this comp that had no roll cage, harnesses, and drivers not wearing helmets. Heck, some of these vehicles did not even have lockers in the front. On the other hand it is alot like nascar in a sense....in its infancy it was just a bunch of good ole boys in the trucks they built on somewhat of a budget. Nowdays if you dont have an 80-100k rig u aren't going to even receive enough reader votes to compete.

Don't forget rear steering and much bigger tires and bead locks.

This is way back in 2003 before the invention of the racing helmet.
I watched this on trucks seventeen years ago

the good old days.
8:40 looks like a helicopter. Cool design.
I love that willys with boggers
I'm surprised to Video's I produced for Four Wheeler Magazine and now owned by MotorTrend on this channel?
@ 10:20 - Is the spotter wearing a bicycle helmet?
If you want to teach someone about the early 2000's, all you need to do is play them this movie.
Wow, this video was made 15 years ago

a lot of these trucks are making use of the bogger tires

I think they are 3/4 ton axles so the whole thing has what is called an unsprung weight of just over 1.5 ton

These all videos are from the original dvd..

+RyanTreks you took the words right out of my mouth
Video editing styles were just different back in 2003. These came out before TH-cam
How does that truck bend like that
science
It's a 1956 Dodge Power Wagon with a swivel frame. You can google or youtube it and find out more about how it works. :)
You're supposed to install the roll cage before you roll it! Lol
How was the little green single seater considered a truck?
Truck axles and wheel base lol
Did that one dude lose points with the wave knocking over the cone???
Cameras were so bad back then.
Agree with Ryan trecks
I just saw a truck that was almost exactly what I planned to do. It talked me out of it. Tube frame and no bed looks stupid as shit
Music and slow motion junked another video
This is impossible to get stuck

Don't speed the video up and let us listen to the v8s and v6s
5:16 Thumbnail
phuck'n goofy back ground music!!
The music was crap and kinda made the video boring with the fast forward
Speeding the film up makes this unwatchable
unbearable camera work
