As a fan of your videos, I think that Virgin are possibly 'missing a trick' in letting you go or accepting your resignation. You are a fantastic ambassador for their business. I'm sure that many potential sailors/passengers and especially possible crew members have been attracted to the 'cruise experience' just from watching your educational, informative and entertaining posts. You are an extremely good interviewer, very much a 'people person' and quite candid in the way you present the cruising experience from a position of exerience and general 'know-how'. (Again, your honest support of 'Virgin Voyages' in particular has always been great 'free advertizing' for that company and its unique brand.) Were I a 'Virgin Voyages' executive, I'd be asking why this contract employee of theirs is working in a shop? (Not that there's anything wrong with that, but it strikes me and I'm sure many others that your particular talents and abilities, not to mention your committment, might be utilised or co-opted in a way that better suits your particular set of Communicative/Public Relations/Human Resources skills?) Put it like this, if I were a Virgin Voyages Exec I'd be asking myself, "Why is this exceptional young woman just selling sunglasses and make-up?" Wow… I know you don’t technically work for Virgin, but you’re one of the best ambassadors for their brand on TH-cam… and given most other cruise channels seem to sensationalise the polarising public opinions of Virgin, I’d have thought they would be very keen to keep you in the family one way or another… it’s a massive missed opportunity on Virgin’s part… I have no doubt bigger and better things await for you Lucy ❤
I guess I'm confused how you've had so much pushback from cruise lines when I see several crew TH-camrs post videos all the time. Of hand, I know of a cruise director, a captain, and an ice skater who all maintain active social media presences including TH-cam channels. Their channels are more blog style vs interviews, but they're definitely showing other crew and many areas of the ship. Anyway, I hope you love your new job. Can't wait to hear all about it.....or at least what you can share 🙂

I'm a firm believer in the saying "things happen for a reason". I'm excited to see where this new job takes you and I'm sure you're going to do wonders. I started watching your channel when the pandemic hit. I left a NCL ship in March 2020 and it was radio silent for 18 months. So I turned to TH-cam, found a handful of creators that showed their perspective of what life was like. And then I was hooked! I use TH-cam as an escape while I'm onboard, this is one of my "me-time" activities. I try to watch new videos once they're posted (while home) but I have to download everything while I'm on contract, which works for me. (I sure do hope you still get your views when a video is downloaded vs watching "live") Anyway, I'm just counting down the days till I'm back to work...5 more days! Thank you Lucy for everything you've done, I thoroughly enjoy watching your channel.

Would you try maybe working on a ferry, shorter time onboard with more frequent home visits. Ideally you should work with a line that would be happy to showcase you and be an ambassador for the company/agency. Best of luck anyway, I’m sure something good will come your way.

Guys, just so you know. For a non-specialist shop attendant, starboard is only paying 900 USD. Is actually one of the lowest salaries on board. So I might understand if some people want to quit, besides they're strict with standards and policies, usually shoppees, aren't allowed to move freely unless starboard approves.
This is not the last we shall hear from Lucy! This is a stepping stone. I expect Lucy to look back on this and see it was an opportunity. WE WILL ALL HEAR FROM LUCY AGAIN! She has the skills to move beyond retail. I wish you all the best!

I would figure most companies worth anything would have a HUGE problem with an employee hosting a TH-cam channel about them. Imagine a stranger voicing their unsolicited opinions about everything you do without regulation, even context as to why, or worse, guessing as to why they think. It's just too big a liability.
Eddy's "theory of bad things" states.... "Whenever anything bad happens, it is almost always followed up by something great that wouldn't have happened if the bad thing hadn't happened first". So when something bad happens to me, I look forward to the great thing following behind it.
I'm working a 28 week contract on a cruise ship and it was the best decision I've ever made in my life.... It's like a small city on water and everyone gets along , the passengers are just wonderful to be around... The chefs are the best and it's so comfortable here, I rather be on the floor making my rounds then being in my room...

I could see that this goes both ways. in some respects, the videos could help the cruise line, but I can also see if they had a disgruntled employee (not you, but someone else perhaps) who had a youtube channel) that could hurt the cruise line's reputation or give the wrong impression. I think it's one thing for passengers to post videos, since other travelers may or may not put as much weight into them as they would watching a video made by a crew member, particularly if it had to do with behind-the-scenes subjects that perhaps normal travellers don't know about/see. But I would think that a neutral channel where you just talk about life on a cruise ship as a crew member should be allowed, and perhaps a ground rule could be that if you feel inclined to complain about something, speak to the cruise line first or simply just leave it out of the videos would be a good compromise. But I think with the culture that we have now, where one person says something (whether it's a passenger or crew member) that has more of a domino effect and can impact a cruise line's reputation and they are just trying to stop anything from happening before it even has a chance to start.
Lucy, If I were still recruiting Flight Attendants at American Airlines, I would consider all of your positive characteristics and send you today for a final interview. So. please consider applying to multiple airlines. Most airlines do have Flight Attendants who VLOG. So, as you start your new job, you should apply for Cabin Crew with various airlines. Just another option. You will do well, my friend.

Train as a flight attendant you can still do you tube and travel. I think the ships are mad not allowing you to continue you give them free advertisement
Starting a new job is an Adventure Lucy. Makes you nervous and you're not sure how it will work, but you seem like you need/want to do this. I hope it's for significantly more money, if you have to be restless and anxious it ought to be more rewarding in more ways than one. If it is just for more money I'd stay where I was happiest. I've jumped through those more money hoops, but after 50 I went for where I made less, but was happier and more challenged in the field I wanted. Ended up with more money in the end anyway.
All the best and good luck with whatever happens. I've known shoppies to end up very high up management in other departments (you probably know at least oneof them). I'm sure you will be great at whatever you turn your hand to next. Looking forward to hearing more.

As a manager, I know that employees who are happy exude that satisfaction to all those they encounter and it becomes contagious. I hope you find happiness on the new line and maybe your adventures will convince me to book a cruise on that line as well. Wow, it is very brave to go into change like this. I can only imagine that it is for a great opportunity. Now it's guessing time. Considering what you've done, and how you've expressed disinterest in being on the shop manager career track, but also how you seem to be very supportive and helpful in getting other people to go into cruise ship careers, I'm going to guess that you are going for some sort of staff position, like a shipboard HR position? And if I had to guess the cruise line, possibly Royal Carribean. They seem to be okay with TH-cam channels, to some degree, so that would be my guess. So my guess for your new job and cruise line is a position in the shipboard HR career track with Royal Carribean. @@DanaShort I seem to remember Activities Manager being the title for that. I think Activities Managers are basically one promotion away from Cruise Director.

I am making $1500 per month here in Dubai. Meanwhile, I've also applied in Harding for 'Fine watch specialist' and I am shortlisted. I am invited for the video recording interview. Do you have any idea how much Harding pays for this role? Please help me. Your response will help me decide my future🥺
Sorry for the change. You were so happy with Virgin. While I've never been on a cruse ship (I did get to spend about four days on an aircraft carrier [accommodations now where are good as you have] while in the US Army) should I do decide to buy a cruise I'll choose Virgin. Same here! Lucy convinced me that it is worth the extra cost, so my husband and I are saving up money to go on a Virgin cruise in a couple years!
Of course the other cruise lines would benefit from Lucy’s videos, just like Virgin has.
They would benefit from Lucy but not perhaps from others. Having employees film their work even while off-duty can be problematic.

I could see that this goes both ways. in some respects, the videos could help the cruise line, but I can also see if they had a disgruntled employee (not you, but someone else perhaps) who had a youtube channel) that could hurt the cruise line's reputation or give the wrong impression. I think it's one thing for passengers to post videos, since other travelers may or may not put as much weight into them as they would watching a video made by a crew member, particularly if it had to do with behind-the-scenes subjects that perhaps normal travellers don't know about/see. But I would think that a neutral channel where you just talk about life on a cruise ship as a crew member should be allowed, and perhaps a ground rule could be that if you feel inclined to complain about something, speak to the cruise line first or simply just leave it out of the videos would be a good compromise. But I think with the culture that we have now, where one person says something (whether it's a passenger or crew member) that has more of a domino effect and can impact a cruise line's reputation and they are just trying to stop anything from happening before it even has a chance to start.

Lucy, If I were still recruiting Flight Attendants at American Airlines, I would consider all of your positive characteristics and send you today for a final interview. So. please consider applying to multiple airlines. Most airlines do have Flight Attendants who VLOG. So, as you start your new job, you should apply for Cabin Crew with various airlines. Just another option. You will do well, my friend.

Starting a new job is an Adventure Lucy. Makes you nervous and you're not sure how it will work, but you seem like you need/want to do this. I hope it's for significantly more money, if you have to be restless and anxious it ought to be more rewarding in more ways than one. If it is just for more money I'd stay where I was happiest. I've jumped through those more money hoops, but after 50 I went for where I made less, but was happier and more challenged in the field I wanted. Ended up with more money in the end anyway.
All the best and good luck with whatever happens. I've known shoppies to end up very high up management in other departments (you probably know at least oneof them). I'm sure you will be great at whatever you turn your hand to next. Looking forward to hearing more.

Lucy, I wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors. Your videos are one of the main reasons I booked a cruise on Virgin Voyages as you seemed to really enjoy your job and the freedom they gave you to create videos surrounding cruising. As a manager, I know that employees who are happy exude that satisfaction to all those they encounter and it becomes contagious. I hope you find happiness on the new line and maybe your adventures will convince me to book a cruise on that line as well. Now it's guessing time. Considering what you've done, and how you've expressed disinterest in being on the shop manager career track, but also how you seem to be very supportive and helpful in getting other people to go into cruise ship careers, I'm going to guess that you are going for some sort of staff position, like a shipboard HR position? And if I had to guess the cruise line, possibly Royal Carribean. They seem to be okay with TH-cam channels, to some degree, so that would be my guess. So my guess for your new job and cruise line is a position in the shipboard HR career track with Royal Carribean.

While I've never been on a cruse ship (I did get to spend about four days on an aircraft carrier [accommodations now where are good as you have] while in the US Army) should I do decide to buy a cruise I'll choose Virgin.
