I miss my dad when i listen this song when i was young my dad ever sing this song he died 2 years ago before he died i sang this song to him if he still alive he'll 60 years old.
I am 11 and my grandpa and grandma passed away 1 to 2 months ago and this song makes me cry. I will always remember my grandpa and gradma, my grandpa served in the Nepal or UK Army (maybe UK) as a corporal. My grandma was a housewife. RIP
this type of music help me start all over again whenever I feel drowning in all these problems.. I stop for a while.. free my mind.. meditate and pray.. sip a cup of coffee while listening to these classics.. then I'm all good after.
Heard this song playing from an old radio yesterday while I was on my way home. By listening to its lyrics, Karen disenchanted my thoughts from reality temporarily and persuaded me to be a passenger onto a retrospective train whose sole purpose of travel was to relive memories. I got a glimpse of random mental souvenirs in every station as it proceeded to move. Those memories I have witnessed from that wonderful scenery were, in reality, forgotten for so long due to the constant movement of time. Tears are already in progress underneath my eyes as I saw my younger self once again playing with my childhood friends whom I am fond with, I have also seen myself in college days consuming a vast amount of alcohol just after enduring a day of insipidity from school. I too saw my Grandparents upraiding my 4-year old self about my mischeivous behavior. How often did they scold me, I did not know. There were some terminals that reminded me of my previous romance, wasted opportunities that should have been pursued, and mistakes as a consequence of immaturity. Prowling along from these series of recollection saddened me for I quickly realized that all of the individuals that I valued the most had turned into specters. Some of them vanished, ventured to a different chapter of their lives, and some of them are dead. Those days that I too cherished at so great a length will never go back no matter what happens, and my fiery passion to obtain my dreams when I was a child will retain itself as a.. dream plastered eternally inside my mind. Painful as it is for me, but that is reality. It just terrified me for a moment because all these memories were already submerged to my unconscious and it just took one song to bring these everything back to life. Sometimes I wonder if songs are a product of witchcraft, a spontaneous creation bestowed from atop, or an arsenal for marionettes like me--who became accustomed to a mechanical lifestyle imposed by our society.
Growing up listening to her was like a breath of fresh air! She had the "it" factor of this era during this time. I listen to her music over and over again! Love you Karen!
me and my sister used to sing this song... about 25 yrs ago and at that time, I never thought about the lyrics at all... now I am singing from the heart !!! Love it
I am still listening and every time I hear it, it makes me cry. I am 5,6 or 7 years old when I listen to this, I think as far as I remember i used mp3 to play this songs then i would cry everytime i hear this because i was all alone listening in the middle of the night. I was like: I miss my mother and father. Then I will cry until I fell asleep. I even try writing the lyrics but miserably failed. I also remembered that I really love a song from a Jollibee commercial then I sing it everyday because its too good. Yesterday Once More and that Jollibee commercial is my jam in those past years. One day, was playing in my mp3 then i got mad i bite the screen. What happend to the mp3? The screen have cracks and that time i realized, i knew so many songs but I don't know the titles apart from this. I am now 13 years old, and still I didn't forget how good is this song, still makes me cry... I really have a long history about music, when I fall asleep I listen to music, when i was sad I listen to music. The whole time my life is like being covered by music on a good way until TH-cam and other stuffs came and invented. There are only few people listening to stereo/radio, listening to old songs. Just like me, technology changes me, I don't listen to radios anymore, why? Because I just don't have the time and a radio to use.
You are too tender to feel emotion deep inside the song. But I respect your feeling about this song. Sometimes we dont need not to grow older for to memorize our sweet memories. 👍👍👍
Your lovely comment from you that make me feeling comfortable, thank you much! But i don't believe that you are 13 years old, because your comment it's really from a older person!
Wish I could get back to my past and enjoy those moments once more in my life ! Really miss those days ! So much has changed and those old gold days are gone !
I am 12 and this is the kind of music i would listen to because this music makes sense. It makes me feel something the new music does. others laugh at me because of my interest in the carpenters, beatles, ect...
Pay no attention to their laughter. Music is music. Everyone has their own tastes. Music is meant as a way to communicate feeling and that's something I would agree is lacking in most newer songs. In most new songs you hear the music, but... you don't FEEL it. That's a strong feeling when you're listening to a song that you like and you can put yourself into it in your imagination and when the words mean sometihng. I also went through a lot of taunting about what I listened to, too, but then I realized it doesn't matter what other people think about it. It seems some people won't listen to old songs simply because they are old, but no matter the age of the song, there are some fundamental human thoughts and feelings being expressed that transcend time. Keep listening to what you love and what makes you feel happy. And I hope you enjoy your day!
I used to listen to the Carpenters all the time when I was in junior high school, about 7 years ago. Listening to this reminded me of those years, even though I only made a few, happy memories. It's kind of weird to confess that this song reminds me of my high school days when teenagers from the 70s to 80s are the ideal people to be reminded of such memories when listening to the Carpenters. 😅
Karen had the most Beautiful voice, I was blessed to have grown up when these songs came out...I talk to alot of young people, and they say they too listen to listen to music of this Time period...When music made you feel good
This song was used as the opening theme for a short-lived Saturday night radio show on long defunct station WTCX in the Twin Cities titled Saturday Night Fever. The DJ, Drew Durrigan would play a lot of 70s songs, many that haven't been heard on Twin Cities radio in years. It was the perfect start to a night of 70s classics and it definitely recaptures nostalgia of memorable songs.
Everytime I play this song, i miss my dad. He's working abroad btw. It's been 2years since he came home, I really miss him so much, I always cry everytime I'm listening to carpenter's playlist because these are the songs he always play when I was little, everytime I wake up in the morning he plays this song and he will carry me and make dance🥺 I hope, i can see him soon
I know right, I don't think they ever imagined how this would hit people in the future. It makes me cry when I remember listening to this song when I was little. It does bring the memories back
This song is beautiful❤️ My daughter said she loved this song when she heard it for the first time.. it was 3 years ago and we’re still listening to it. Now she is 12. September 18,2019

I listened to this song first in 1991, while staying in Cambridge. To this day it's like an evergreen tree to me.

When I was young
I'd listen to the radio
Waitin' for my favorite songs
When they played I'd sing along
It made me smile.
Those were such happy times
And not so long ago
How I wondered where they'd gone
But they're back again
Just like a long lost friend
All the songs I loved so well.
Every Sha-la-la-la
Every Wo-o-wo-o
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're startin' to sing's
So fine.
When they get to the part
Where he's breakin' her heart
It can really make me cry
Just like before
It's yesterday once more.
Lookin' back on how it was
In years gone by
And the good times that I had
Makes today seem rather sad
So much has changed.
It was songs of love that
I would sing to then
And I'd memorize each word
Those old melodies
Still sound so good to me
As they melt the years away.
Every Sha-la-la-la
Every Wo-o-wo-o
Still shines
Every shing-a-ling-a-ling
That they're startin' to sing's
So fine.
All my best memories
Come back clearly to me
Some can even make me cry.
Just like before
It's yesterday once more.

This is the first English song I was exposed to ... actually I did not know what she was singing about but the song struck a chord in my heart with its mood. In my college, my American teacher told me this is an old song he had no idea of.,, maybe belonged to the old generation... It suddenly dawned on me that how isolated my country was from the outer world, falling behind the trend.
