I cant believe at one point early in the series Naruto was just so ostracized, it was so hard to imagine how he will ever become the Hero of the Hidden Leaf, and now he has ended up becoming the Hero of the entire Shinobi World!! That empty bench that used to be the symbol of his loneliness would end up becoming the most visited tourist spot in Konoha.

I don't know the complete details of becoming a kage conisidering each village has their requirements. I'm guessing for the hidden mist and sand village, age didn't matter because of how young Gaara and Yagura ( the fourth Mizukage) were. In Naruto's case, I'm guessing he's not intellectually booksmart enough?

Kakashi became Hokage mostly to help with the pardoning of Sasuke and prepare Naruto to take the sit after him. That's why Lady Tsunade says she knows why he really taking the position. Also why he tells Sasuke that the only reason he is being realsed is thanks to Naruto (hero of the war) and the current Hokage (himself). In a way it was him putting himself in a position of power to help them both 😁 That what the main reason. I believe he honestly wasn't even that interested in the position itself.

The first time I saw Sasuke's and Naruto's final battle I thought it was epic. And while its still epic now that I've seen you react to it another thought that came to mind is: Boys will be boys. Which really fits the whole relationship between these two knuckleheads. XD
Kakashi's words about Naruto, that "he isn't the type to get carried away" is justified. Naruto already got over his attention-seeking phase, and grow up and humbled ever since. He never bragged about how he save Gaara who had become Kazekage, nor he ever boasted himself for defeating Sixth Path of Pain, despite people now referring to him as "Miraculous Hero of Leaf". Another prove is, Naruto is willing to follow Kakashi's suggestion and study under Iruka with Konohamaru, so he have proper knowledge needed when he becomes Hokage. Itachi's speech to him back then probably helps too.
It makes sense that tsunade stepped down after the 4th war, like the third stepped down after the 3rd ninja war. From a political stand point it makes sense that a nations leader step down after a war. A new leader seems symbolic to a new era of peace. Now although Kakashi isn't that powerful, he's no pushover either, he is highly known and respected around the world , a perfect candidate to take office in a peaceful moment. Since Naruto still lacks the maturity to efficiently be Hokage, Kakashi is basically keeping his seat warm until he's ready.

It makes sense that tsunade stepped down after the 4th war, like the third stepped down after the 3rd ninja war. From a political stand point it makes sense that a nations leader step down after a war. A new leader seems symbolic to a new era of peace. Now although Kakashi isn't that powerful, he's no pushover either, he is highly known and respected around the world , a perfect candidate to take office in a peaceful moment. Since Naruto still lacks the maturity to efficiently be Hokage, Kakashi is basically keeping his seat warm until he's ready.
