    I’ve been to Morocco and you are right about the orange juice! The most delicious oranges I’ve ever had. In fact, I’ve kind of gone off of American oranges since my visit. I can’t remember all of the stops we made (with a college group) but we saw a marvelous waterfall and Roman ruins. Our tour guide to us to his house for dinner (or he said it was his house). And we road camels in the desert. And goats in trees! Two weeks wasn’t enough time there!

    I realize this is a geography channel and precisely why I watch. My main curiosity about visiting Morocco are the toilets. I was told they don't have them except in Western hotels. What happens when you're in a market in Morocco and you gotta poop? Should I bring my own toilet paper?

    • @GeographyKing
      @GeographyKing  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Standing outside of public restrooms were usually women or little kids selling small amounts of toilet paper for a few cents. But in the cities we visited, all restaurants had normal western style bathrooms. You may have to buy a juice or something small. Also, the nicer carpet shops will gladly show you to their genuinely sparkling clean restrooms, and when you come out they have the sales pitch ready and waiting. We sat through a five minute hard sell, but my wife said it was worth it for the bathroom.

    I visited Morocco in 2007. It was a beautiful and amazing place. The food, history and architecture were magnificent. Be prepared, however, if you are a tourist, to be a target for locals who want you to buy things. They will approach you and direct you to their friend's or relative's shop and be very aggressive with their sales pitch. You will have to bargain on the price. They aren't scamming since the leather goods, carpets etc are very high quality, and they will let you watch as they pack your purchases for shipment to your home. They aren't going to cheat you, but they really do want your money. Just be aware if you are from Europe or North America that they will swoop down on you from the moment you step off the plane.

    • @rogersmith7396
      @rogersmith7396 ปีที่แล้ว

      In Egypt I would go round and round the shop until I found the most cheapest thing they had. Then smile and take it to the owner and give him his 25 cents. It drove them crazy. You will never get into a cab which won't force you to shops the driver is on commission with. Also they won't make change. Never expect it. They will make you take the balance in goods. You can either get mad or play them and have a pleasant experience.

    • @rogersmith7396
      @rogersmith7396 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are dirt poor compared to Americans. Your rules don't apply.

    • @GeographyKing
      @GeographyKing  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We didn't find that to be an issue. We did get a couple of hard sells for carpet, but other than that it was hassle-free. I've heard stories like yours but all from at least a few years back, so either it's not like it used to be or we got lucky. But we also weren't in the market for a carpet, and I've heard if you want one it can be a pain to bargain for.

      15:46 ATLAS MOUNTAINS? ------ NO COUNTRY FOR WHITE WOMEN ☠😬
      On 17 December 2018, the bodies of Louisa Vesterager Jespersen, a 24-year-old Danish woman, and Maren Ueland, a 28-year-old Norwegian woman, were found decapitated in the foothills of Mount Toubkal near to the village of Imlil in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. (Wikipedia)
      The video of it, for some reason is easy to find. Grainy and dark. One was on her stomach and her face during the act was not in the vid, only the back of her. Her friends head was nearby as she was already murdered. Both were gangraped before their deaths. Ironic thing was is they were 2 far left women who championed Islamic immigration into their home nations. They went there as a show to nay sayers that Morocco and every place else is just other human beings no different from you or I. Yes and No. 2 Infidel Scandanavians and 4 Isis supporting savages on a desolate mountain (not ideal). They were caught, tried, and sentenced to death as they should be. Hope ya didn't camp up there for the night. Beautiful country but like anywhere else be careful. God Bless, enjoy your content. You are a good man.

    A friend who has traveled extensively in N Africa, SW Asia, and Europe said Morocco was the most beautiful country of all, with Iran coming in second. (This was before the revolution.) He said the most striking part of his visit to Morocco was stopping in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere and being startled at the quantity of stars, that he had never seen anything like it in the US or anywhere else with any population. He told me that he may have been one of fewer than a hundred people within a hundred miles and there was NO light pollution. He told me that should I ever get to Africa, not to miss this country. To emphasize how safe and secure he felt there, he said should he ever decide to become a US expat, Morocco would be at or near the top of any list he could make.

    This is kind of an obscure reference, but back in the 80s, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (and Polaroid, haha) funded a "miniseries" of science videos featuring MIT prof Philip Morrison called "The Ring of Truth." There are 6 episodes. While every single one is amazing in its own right, the 4th, titled "Clues" tells the story of how the mouth of the Mediterranean sea - right there between Gibraltar and the northern tip of Morrocco, had opened and closed over a long span of geological time. It would close, and then the sea would actually almost dry up! Then it would open, and the rush of water from the Atlantic would carve MILES of the bedrock out. What's more interesting is their description of *how* they figured this out. Drilling rock cores from different parts of the Mediterranean, where on the east side you'd have a "story" of rocks going back and forth between dry rock and rock that forms at the bottom of water, and on the west side, where the deluge came through, you'd have a similar "story," but it would just skip from part to part much quicker, since the water would erase big portions of the story.
    Old school, grainy video, but absolutely fascinating. All of them are well worth the time to watch, and they're all on youtube.

    • @jamesbungert3155
      @jamesbungert3155 ปีที่แล้ว

      That particular video also talks about the petrified forests in Yellowstone park. And cake, as an illustration of geological layers. Cake is reason enough in my opinion.
      Also, am I on the right track to assume that the food of Morocco could be its own video? :)

    Something this video fails to mention: the large Jewish population that used to exist in Morocco. While now there are barely a couple of thousand Jews in Morocco, due to emigration to Israel, France, North America, etc., as recently as 1948 there were 250-300 thousand, the largest of any single country in the Arab/Muslim world. And my own Montreal has 20 or maybe 25 thousand Moroccan Jews, of whom (as part of the Jewish community of Montreal) I know tons!

      lol yes that's a cemetery on the beach! it's so old back to thousands of years so the government kept it for a reaspect of the dead people there even though that place is very beautiful for other projects near the beach.

    Those two danish hikers that were murdered in the Atlas Mountains really gave Morocco a bad name. Word of advice to females, do not travel without a male escort in a Muslim country.

    The travel tip for Morocco is DON'T GO THERE. And if you do, stay in the nicest parts of Marrakesh, Casablanca, or Tangier. You start wandering away from the (somewhat) secure areas and you'll wind up like the two Scandinavian women who decided to go hiking by themselves in Morocco and won the Darwin Awards for "Best Lead Actresses in an Islamic Execution Video."

      When I went to Egypt there were areas only the army could hold down. Oh and the guys with machine guns at the British Museum in Cairo REALLY wanted me to pay them $5.00 to take a picture of me. They got their $5.00. Now neighboring Sudan is at war. Don't want any "accidental" weapons discharges on cheap tourists. Have seen similar in Mexico.

      So, basically like the US then.

    • @JakeKoenig

      @@GeographyKing I would say the US is mostly safe with small pockets of dangerous areas, whereas Morocco is mostly dangerous with small pockets of safe areas. So that's the difference.
      Nothing against anyone traveling wherever they want in the world, but people should know the risks of going to countries where sticking out like a sore thumb makes them a target.

      Yes there is - it's how non - blacks differentiate that point on the continent where it is unsafe, undeveloped, and all around sh*tholes to stay far, far, away from. Dont be angry at whites or anyone when something you perceived as 'racist' arises. in SS Africa tribal/ethnic hate is off the charts. If these people see the tribe 10 miles away up a river as 'different' and the 'enemy' dont get angry at others when they do the same. God Bless, im sure you are a good guy, but I bet if I asked you where you would move in SS Africa if you had to you would say South Africa - where whites built industry and infrastructure that is being chipped away at since 1994 when Apartheid ended (which no one was for.) The nation has been, and now is at a 3rd world hell from the corruption and mismanagement of the all black govt and the single ruling party that has won every election since then. Blacks there even admit their quality of life was better during Apartheid - that's sad. Whites there should get refugee status and America should take them in. (Unlike all these other scumbags coming across the US sothern border they have a reason. Same with the whites left in Zimbabwe.) Meanwhile China will pay pennies to the corrupt govt and strip the lands of all their mineral wealth all across SS Africa. Has already started. Life is hard there. Back Africans HATE Black Americans. Your whining, bitching, and moaning. No black child is born in America, or Europe without guaranteed food, clothing, shelter, for the baby and mom and a K-12 education. THAT'S NOT OPPRESSION - If anything it's absolute PRIVILEDGE. Get to be born in the most modern and advanced areas of the world and people not only treat you with kid gloves (lower standars) but have policies in place to ensure you succeed if you want to. Whites have CUCKED themselves into a pretzel - USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE. Every Black African I have met I liked. Respectful, well-spoken, and hard working. Black Americans? A mixed bag. There is no gray area. Either you are normal run of the mil everyday folks, or I am getting the F' out of where I find myself. Loud and obnoxious - everything spoken is DEGENERATE. 50 years ago the art and music was beautiful. WTF happened? Oh yeah, Lynden Johnson and the Democrat party that's what. When racism was worse it was so shameful because blacks were just god-fearing family oriented people. I am disgusted by the past for what whites did. Since 1970 on....aaah I kind of get racist thoughts coming and going. There are people of all races who SUCK and I beleive all of us have thrown away GOD - that's why we have the degenerate society of today.
