  • My review and experience with Swag Off Road after purchasing their 20 ton finger brake. This is my viewpoint of what is happening at Swag and contains some assumptions due to their decision to not respond to my direct message to them.
I still plan to buy their gooseneck dies and maybe their tubing roller at some point in the future.

I talked with SWAG tonight when I also got a Chinese part, it appear that all the hardware and the collars are imported. It also appear that SWAG OFFROAD is ok with saying made in America in big letters when it is not really American made. received today on 12/7/2023. The representative said the hardware was imported. One of my fingers is undersized and just falls out. (they wanted me to pin punch it to get it to stay in the holder. Crappy excuses on my first and last SWAG purchase.

I am going to guess that collar was sourced as a cost savings to all of us. I also think all iron/metal/steel is now made and sourced from China. The rust issue is most likely from storage and is intended to be cleaned, welded, painted by the end user.
I purchased the band saw stand for my Milwaukee a couple of years ago and am satisfied with it.
I have a Grizzly mill and lathe purchased used and It is a decent product. Most stuff we buy nowadays is manufactured in china. Our phones, clothes, shoes, etc are made in china. Americans are our own worst enemy when it comes to the end reason why all that stuff is now made overseas. We can point the finger at government regulations, politicians, voters, tree huggers, etc, the list goes on.
I was a machinist many years ago, I am old and re-TIRED now. Very proud of what I made and accomplished. Manufacturing went by the wayside years ago along with our jobs, pride, etc.
With that said I do understand your concern. Thanks for your review it was honest and to the point.

But why rust in the first place . A rust spray (like WD40) is a cheap deterrent, but the collar and the bold china stamp is flying heavily against their motto . Dayum, I'm going to start looking at chinese parts like this if I'm going to get chinea in disguise . The reason I bought Primeweld welding gear since the last two years . Good on you bro. I go out of my way to buy American made products when I can, so when I see something advertised as made in USA I purchase in good faith. I'd probably feel the same as you if I had gotten a part stamped "china" having had my expectation set that it should have been made in USA. Sadly it seems like "made" is a fairly loose term anymore, with "assembled" being equal to "made".
Rust is probably inevitable, but like you said, isn't that big of a deal, since in your case it was just light surface rust, probably from storage.
Still, cutting out less than 5 star reviews is a bad look for any company, as it shows a lack of transparency. When I look at reviews I generally look for the bad reviews first. One, so I can spot any red flags about a product, and two, to see how a company responds/supports customer issues. If you go on a site like quadratec and see a bad review, they generally have customer support reply in a comment and show their willingness to address the issue and/or correct the situation. Had swag done something like this, and at least explained their side of the issue in the reviews, it would probably go a very long way with their customers and the fab community at large.

SWAG made a mistake by not including "Made in the USA with US and foreign sourced components". If they had a good lawyer, he or she would have told them to include it in their advertisements.
I suspect that the bolts/capscrews they supply may also be foreign sourced. By law, they are allowed to state "100% made in the USA".

Hi, I'm also a buyer the Swag finger brake. I asked Swag if this machine is made in USA because here is South Korea and we have the FTA with USA and this agreement affects the tariff when it's imported. So I got the email from Swag explained only the shaft collar is from China and others are made in USA. Fortunately, I waived from the tariff when it arrived. I understand your concern and thank you for your frank review which can be helpful for other people to buy it even though I saw this review after I already bought this brake. What you didn't mention is that only allowing favorable reviews to deceive customers and sell more product is fraud and it is illegal.
I'm not surprised you got a few negative comments on the video. Once people become fan boys of a company logic goes right out the window. In our modern world.....there is nearly zero products that are 100% made in the USA.
I am a US manufacturer and we can only get certain parts from China because that is the only place they are made. Common hardware and fasteners are not usually made in the US. Aerospace and military components are made here but they are not for a DIY consumer product.
I can easily forgive some Chinese hardware when it does not impact functionality.

"Made in the USA" means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! But it is a catch-phrase that Americans will go out of their way to pay extra for!
Here's an example for you. I am a Canadian and my neighbor produces a product that he sells labeled "100% Canadian Organic Wild Rice" and it is exactly that.
His best customer is an American non-organic commercial wild rice producer. This shrewd American businessman mixes 25% of my neighbor's legitimate organic product with 75% of his commercial non-organic wild rice. He then sells the mixture as "100% American Organic Wild Rice"! It is neither 100% American or 100% Organic! But as long as he puts in 25% Organic wild rice in it he is allowed to sell it as 100% pure and it doesn't matter where it comes from.
Swag is probably American owned and they think that it is their right to source their product anywhere they want and still say Proudly Made in the USA and the sad fact is that the courts will back them up on it!
You can't fight this, but you don't have to believe them either! Caveat Emptor!

Like you my review was not logged on the website guessing because I mentioned that the miter was a bit cheap and the powder coating on the table was so course that it made sliding material across it more difficult. My take is that they have very good products and if they choose to not post a comment for whatever reason it's perfectly OK with me. Doing business these days is something every person should have a chance to do..... because it isn't easy on any level. Peace

I am so damn sick of the games these companies play. I would have absolutely ZERO issue with knowing that swag was using foreign parts to upgrade my foreign cheap ass tools. However, misleading me to think that they aren't, is unacceptable. They KNEW what they were doing. Swag knows they are misleading people, to increase sales. I don't think I'll ever trust reviews I read on a company owned site, that profits from selling that very product. Black Rifle Coffee likes to do the same kind of crap, with how they conduct sales/advertising. Sadly, I don't buy their coffee anymore, because of it. Why can't companies just be transparent and honest? Is the buying public not to be trusted to make decisions based on truth, anymore? I think that if you can purchase from another company that doesnt act this way, you should. If we keep handing these companies money for doing these things, they will continue. I find it odd that you would send them MORE of your money, after being lied to then ignored, as you have been. If you're still sending them money, perhaps this video needs removed as well...

When you eat out and the menu says "home made" do you expect that they grow the wheat and grind the flour for the bread? To summarize, you bought a new 100% China made press and the swag kit so you could pretend you DIY built a press brake. You received some mill scale "surface rust" on the bare metal parts and one made in China bushing. Oh, and the biggie, you felt censored because your complaints were not on display for everyone. I don't know if swag is being unfair, but in my opinion, you are being petty. If you truly felt like swag did not meet the terms of your purchase then you would have contacted them first and gave them a shot at making it right. Instead you started off with a poor review, and followed it up with this video, and my question is: did you solve a real problem?

    • @HardEarnedBacon
      @HardEarnedBacon  ปีที่แล้ว +4

I did not leave them a poor review and I did contact them before making this video. If you had paid attention you would have known that. Your statement is inaccurate and misguided.

@Hard Earned Bacon let me ask you how you would have viewed your review of you were the owner of swag? Would you want to be called a cheat for substituting one bushing with a China sourced bushing? Would you think that was a positive review? And would you want that up on YOUR WEBSITE, yes Swag owns it, for potential customers to read when the guy that left it was so upset that he never bothered to say "hey guys," ? I doubt you would, so let me say it again, you're being petty. I guess the need to create content surpasses the need to seek real solutions so you succeeded but again did it solve a real problem?

    • @HardEarnedBacon
      @HardEarnedBacon  ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@timblossom8904 I'm not the owner of Swag so your question is irrelevant. However, if I was the owner, I wouldn't advertise my products as 100% USA made and then ship my customers parts made in China.
I didn't call anyone a cheat, you are making stuff up to support your ridiculous argument.
Yes it is their website, but if you delete reviews off of your website that you don't like, then your review system is worthless and people deserve to know.
I attempted to say "hey guys" multiple times and was ignored. Again, you would have known that if you had paid attention to the video and not latched on to something with your own bias.
If anyone is petty it is you for clicking on my video just to leave a tirade of silly complaints that are completely irrelevant.
Since this video has given people a view of my experiences and shown that Swag is far from the perfect company that some people think they are I would say yes it has solved a problem.

Ever heard of a spam filter, champ?
I've talked to the owner a few times in the past. He's the real deal. Does he use a shaft collar that was made in China, potentially as a result of skyrocketing costs? Maybe. Did you get so emotional and sensitive that you put together a 10-minute video specifically trying to harm an American company? Definitely.

    • @HardEarnedBacon

@@donjohnson5424 A silly, left field comment followed by another silly, left field comment. You can use the wayback machine and see for yourself if you like for the homepage edits. My review is visible at Judge.me which is the service that Swag uses to post reviews, but not visible on Swags website which means it is being hidden. What does a spam filter have to do with anything? There was no spam and the review was left with the verified link provided in the email from Swag. Plus that doesn't explain being completely ignored by the customer service email sent directly to them. If you actually came into this with an open mind and read some other comments on this video you would see that others have stated that the Chinese part has been used as far back as 2018, long before skyrocketing costs. Sharing my personal experience after being misled and ignored by a business that can take my money but can't handle my review (that they asked for) makes me emotional and sensitive? You claim I am a conspiracy theorist yet you say I am specifically trying to harm an American company which is a completely false statement and in itself a conspiracy theory. Thanks for the view and comments, helping this video in the TH-cam algorithm and get seen by more people. Luckily you are the minority and most people see this video for what it is and aren't triggered by someone passing along a truthful story. The owner of Swag may be great guy and the real deal, but not all of his products are it seems.

      @ianmoone2359 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yep, you were asked to provide a review by SWAG in a email as a customer - or likely you wouldn’t have bothered.
Then when you do bother (twice) your “censored” because the company don’t want any “negative press” on their website from perhaps their unsatisfied customers? 🤷‍♂️👎
I would object to being censored also, if my opinion was sought & I went to the trouble of providing it.
The “dishonesty” of claiming “proudly 100% USA made”, then censoring comment to hide the fact that at least 1 part is stamped “China” would tend to make me question if perhaps most of Swag Offroads products aren’t all maybe outsourced to China perhaps?
Heck for all we know there could be a town in China called USA, so that the Chinese can mark all manner of components “Made in USA”.
I’m amazed that the Chinese haven’t copied this product by now & selling it into Swag Offroads USA market place in competition, because that is what they do, put the original designer inventor out of business by selling their cheap knock off copies of products into their competitors market place.
They think absolutely nothing of stealing intellectual property, breaching copyright or patents even - because theirs nothing anyone in the west can do about it, you can’t hope to sue anyone in the Chinese Courts System run by the Chinese Communist Party in China as a westerner and hope to win, that’s just never going to happen.
Doing such a thing in our western culture is considered to be the lowest form of scum sucking pond slime, but it’s the reverse in China.
They take great pride in doing this because they consider that it shows their intellectual superiority over the westerners - when they can “put one over” on the round eyes. 🙄👎😡
      The CCP encourage it.
Look at the Chinese knock offs of Gibson hand made custom shop guitars - worth many thousands of dollars and a proud USA manufacturer with family owned business history going back over 100 years.
Now they have to compete against cheap Chinese knock offs that even employees at Gibson would have trouble telling apart from the real McCoy item.
There’s so many of them imported and sold in the USA now that they are Nick named “Chibsons” (ie Chinese copy Gibson’s).
And when the Gibson company is driven into bankruptcy and all those manufacturing jobs are gone (replaced by Chinese Uigar prisoners under slave labour for 2 bowls of rice per week, the USA government will do nothing to protect its citizens or its manufacturing industry, its jobs it’s economy by placing sanctions on China & all Chinese made products. 🙄👎
Biden really is the dumbest and worst US President who ever stole an election.
If your not going to change that then you have only yourselves to blame at the end of the day.
Swag Off-road will get his own comeuppance one day when the Chinese have copied his product and are selling it into the USA via Amazon at half the price he is asking.
It’s a b!tch when your Karma backs up over your Dogma.

@@ianmoone2359 - you may be correct about some Asian culture ethics. I was told by a man who would know, that some Asians consider it proper/acceptable to "get-one-over" on a customer, regardless if they are foreign or domestic - it is not an ethnic hatred as you imply, nor does it show "their intellectual superiority over the westerners - when they can 'put one over' on the round eyes". It is simply part of a culture. I suspect there is a Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese, or some other Asian language word for the practice.
As far as Biden being a dumb, worst, or a bad POTUS, you are far too simplistic. He has a long history of lying and getting away with the practice. He, at this point has suceeded at getting elected as POTUS (a long term desire), while campaigning from his basement, in his pajamas. That's dumb?
The fact is that Biden is the GREATEST socialist POTUS, EVER. He is greater than
Woodrow Wilson, F.D. Roosevelt, and Obama. The socialism marching order, job one - two steps forward, one step back.
Biden is a willing victum of elder abuse, being used by his wife and handlers as a means to an end.

I understand your concern and would love to hear the other side of the story from Swag. OTOH, the fact that they sent out a non critical part that showed no attempt to hide the origin of makes me believe they're just dealing with the supply chain issues most companies are. The way I see it, they found a good ratio of quality/value/price. I have a few of their products and they perform great for my needs. I'll still buy from them.

I agree for the most part, and will still buy from them as well as stated. Although I have pretty much switched to all Rogue at this point. That being said, as mentioned in the video several times the Chinese part was not that big of a deal and was not the reason I made the video. Others have commented that the Chinese part has been included since 2018/2019 so Swag has always shipped them even before the supply chain issues.
