The man is gone, but his music lives on. Charlie Robison was an amazing singer/songwriter that embodied the Texas troubadour tradition. Bless his family, friends and fans who are grieving his loss!
I'm just a fan in Tennessee and for a week I just played his songs over and over and I couldn't grasp he was gone I just still can't believe it and I know the people of Texas and red dirt fans have to be just devastated but he left us with some of the greatest songs and performances there has ever been a true outlaw who did his way and at least he got too play for us for one last year thank you Charlie and for us fans it's up too us to let the world know his songs and what a national treasure he is
Their both under appreciated songwriters that can or could put these so called number one writers these days to shame!!! They wrote from the heart!!!! RIP Charlie!!!
I love love this man and his songs. I never heard of him until a year ago, but I heard a really funny song he wrote. I started listening to him a lot. He was such a good artist! I’m so sad that he has passed on. RIP.
He’s coming out of retirement dude. He’s already booked to play a few shows. He’s not gonna sound as good probably after the surgery, but still a country legend in my book and will be an awesome show.
I’m grateful I met him numerous times and partied with him. Thanks Charlie, Satellite Lounge, Luckenbach and Continental Club and the many times at Gruene Hall. Good times.
I moved out to Canada 6 years ago from England, been 4 years now, Charlie has been hands down my go to, and favourite artist for any mood, thanks for all the work Charlie, My hometown runs a few times every morning on my way to work, and Indianola, sleep well brother, hopefully ill see you live one day some place else! - Elliot
Hate to here the news, Charlie is retiring from singing, I'll leave it to him to explain, it just sucks a big one. Son of Texas, Houston, Austin & San Antonio we're going to miss you.
One of the shows I only hoped to see was Charlie and Bruce. Music feels empty today after hearing about Charlie's retirement. I'll keep spinning ya, man.
So he's back - I sure hope so - I work with horses here in the stableyard on the backside of Churchill Downs - Charlie along with Joe Ely and Robert Earl Keen and Todd Snider - Paul Thorn of course - that's the music I love and play on my guitar - or guitars I should say -
Well, I loved a girl She lived out in Pecos, and pretty as she could be And I worked the rigs on out in Odessa To give her whatever she needs But that girl, she run with an oil company bum 'Cause the diamond was not on her hand And he left her soon 'neath the big loving moon To go out and X-ray the land Now I sit in my car at the New Rainbow Bar downtown And the frost on the windshield shines toward the sky Like a thousand tiny diamonds in the lights of loving county Well, l walked in that bar and I drank myself crazy Thinking about her and that man When in walked a woman, looking richer than sin And ten years worth of work on her hand Well, I followed her home and when she was alone Well, I put my gun to her head And I don't recall what happened next at all But now that rich woman, she is dead Now I drive down the highway Ten miles from my sweet baby's arms And the moon is so bright it don't look like night And the diamond how it sparkles in the lights of loving county But she opened that door and I knelt on the floor And I put that ring in her hand Then she said, "I do" and she'd leave with me soon To the rigs out in South Alabama Well, I told her to hide that ring there inside And wait 'til the timing was good And I drove back home and I was alone 'Cause I thought that she understood The next night an old friend just called me to wish us both well He said, he'd seen her downtown, sashaying around And her diamond how it sparkled in the lights of loving county Well that sheriff, he found me out wandering All around El Paso the very next day You see, I'd lost my mind on that broken white line Before I even reached Balmorhea Well, now she's in Fort Worth and she's just giving birth To the son of that oil company man And they buried that poor old sheriff's dead wife With the ring that I stole on her hand And sometimes they let me look up at that East Texas sky And the rain on the pines, oh Lord, how it shines Like my darling's little diamond in the lights of loving county Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Charlie Fitzgerald Robison / Charlie Robison

Thank you for the music Charlie, rest in peace
Charlie was the man. He's the Texas' Chris Knight imo. One of the best songwriters ever in red dirt.
Chris knight doesn’t come close
I bet Charlie Robison might have disagreed with you.
Their both under appreciated songwriters that can or could put these so called number one writers these days to shame!!! They wrote from the heart!!!! RIP Charlie!!!
RIP Charlie, you were always one of a kind and you did it your way. You’ll be missed.

New Years Day?
Some of my best memories growing up were set to the backdrop of Mr Robison’s tunes. God Bless you Charlie.
I can’t believe this legend is gone…… great memories at shows and radio
Both of the Robison brothers are full of talent. Charlie was my favorite. His stories were always interesting and many were funny.
This is one of those ballads that stays with you, painting pictures on the mind. Thank you
I really miss Charlie's music. I never got to see him live, and sure wish I could have.
Saw him in 2004, Sundance Square. Great show. Too bad he's done performing.
He’s coming out of retirement dude. He’s already booked to play a few shows. He’s not gonna sound as good probably after the surgery, but still a country legend in my book and will be an awesome show.
@@evanfaust8672 he sounds great. I saw him at Floore Country Store in December.
Saw him after Grand Prairie horse races, probably about 2000 or real early 2000’s. Only reason I went to the horse race track was for Charlie!
I’m grateful I met him numerous times and partied with him. Thanks Charlie, Satellite Lounge, Luckenbach and Continental Club and the many times at Gruene Hall. Good times.

This song has so much energy and imagery through its lyrics, on of my favorites.
This song is his Freebird.

Well, I loved a girl
She lived out in Pecos, and pretty as she could be
And I worked the rigs on out in Odessa
To give her whatever she needs
But that girl, she run with an oil company bum
'Cause the diamond was not on her hand
And he left her soon 'neath the big loving moon
To go out and X-ray the land
Now I sit in my car at the New Rainbow Bar downtown
And the frost on the windshield shines toward the sky
Like a thousand tiny diamonds in the lights of loving county
Well, l walked in that bar and I drank myself crazy
Thinking about her and that man
When in walked a woman, looking richer than sin
And ten years worth of work on her hand
Well, I followed her home and when she was alone
Well, I put my gun to her head
And I don't recall what happened next at all
But now that rich woman, she is dead
Now I drive down the highway
Ten miles from my sweet baby's arms
And the moon is so bright it don't look like night
And the diamond how it sparkles in the lights of loving county
But she opened that door and I knelt on the floor
And I put that ring in her hand
Then she said, "I do" and she'd leave with me soon
To the rigs out in South Alabama
Well, I told her to hide that ring there inside
And wait 'til the timing was good
And I drove back home and I was alone
'Cause I thought that she understood
The next night an old friend just called me to wish us both well
He said, he'd seen her downtown, sashaying around
And her diamond how it sparkled in the lights of loving county
Well that sheriff, he found me out wandering
All around El Paso the very next day
You see, I'd lost my mind on that broken white line
Before I even reached Balmorhea
Well, now she's in Fort Worth and she's just giving birth
To the son of that oil company man
And they buried that poor old sheriff's dead wife
With the ring that I stole on her hand
And sometimes they let me look up at that East Texas sky
And the rain on the pines, oh Lord, how it shines
Like my darling's little diamond in the lights of loving county
