Enjoy the 50's Lessons for beginners very much. I'm 66 years old and I'm very pleased to be able play Buddy Holly on my Fenders. Chuck Berry is the next mountain to climb. Thx, Buddy.
Buddy wrote at least two fantastic pop songs - Maybe Baby and Peggy Sue - which both use only a few basic chords. Genius. These lessons at fantastic. Thanks .
this'll be the next song i will be learning. thank you so so so so so so so so so so so so so so so much justin for all your hard work! im on a student budget with limited time and money for lessons. this is amazing quality and teaching. love Cara
You know that was prolly one a the best lessons I've seen on TH-cam!!! Some guys don't even slow the songs down or they just go or talk way too fast! That was really good & I think you singing thru it really helps too! Thanks a lot!!!
Great clear lesson on a great simple song. This is still my level and I've been 'playing' five years. But "Hey!" as you say. I love Rock'n'roll, I'm struggling on The Beatles' No Reply at the moment, I can strum the chords but when I sing it goes all over the place, but it'll come. Thanks greatly again.
If anyone is having a hard time noting down the verse chords (I was), I think they're '2a, 2d / 1a, 1d, 2a / 4d / 1a, 1d, 2a / 2e, 2d / 1a, 1d, 1a, 1e '
Hey great instruction. I used to teach at a local music retailer about 7 or 8 yrs ago. I never learned this song (or any Buddy Holly song) and it's actually more simple than I thought. (great for beginners.) I wish I knew this one when I taught. Well now I know it just in case I ever start instruction again. Thanks for the lesson!
Hey kudos to you man,I've been learning 1 year now and seriously i dont think it's all about hw good u play but hw much playing matters to u...Rock On bro..!!!
If there was an award ceremony for best online guitar teachers i think that justin and marty would on the red carpet, well done guys and thanks a lot for all your free lessons
The A chord fretted one behind two in front is the correct way not the beginners way. Doing it correctly enables the player to leave finger one on the guitar and speeds up the chord changes.
@gotlogg I agree! The D chord is by far the hardest chord for me to master as well, from the ones (DAE) we've learned in the beginner's course. But I can see myself progressing continuously, so I guess it's just a matter of time. We'll just have to keep to it! :)
I've seen videos of Holly playing this, and it looks like he's using the F chord cheat that you show. Great video, I've kept up with your lessons, great stuff keep it up. PS. good luck on your album.
Thanks man, This helped me come up with the Bass line, I just made a Horror Parody called Mary Lou from Prom Night 2, and I couldn't find the Bass Line on line anywhere..
great vocals for this...you really seemed to have some fun with it which is cool. odd looking maton guitar...not sure I have seen that one, but them I am not totally up on them. Nice trick with the F. You know for me the full bar F is all about the B and high E string. The others are easy, but those too buz...even on my nylon string guitar which should be easier than my steel string. Just need to work on strength and spin that first finger on the 45 degree.
I've now got these parts well learned but am struggling with the solo bit - there's some very rapid switches between A and D which I am finding hard (impossible?) to strum it. Excellent tutorial (as usual).
diymostthings yeah, the little strum part when it goes from A to D and then back again is a little difficult to get even for me and I've been playing for like 20 years. If you switch to up and down strumming it makes it easier. You don't have to play all down strokes you don't want to.
Hi, in the original song I can hear some sort of effect on D chord. Something like sliding down the neck but not really sure. Does anybody know what is the name of this effect?
Obsevation is most if not all do not have teaching skills that go with their playing/knowledge skills..PLAN is needed. Demo whole song+chords+skills needed. intro/verse/chorus/bridge dealt as individual parts including strum/pick patterns. Begining/ Middle / End. Good Teachers harder to find than good players + they get in humour and personallity. Jumping around and fumbled speach clicks a confused tab to the learner.NEED TO KNOW ONLY matters. Joy Fun and Respect for teach and learner result
They will hurt for a while dylan. Most new players should put lotion on their tops to relieve the pain and relieve cracking. I had to use neosporine with the pain killer in it for a bit. Then your fingers start to heal up and grow callouses. Keep on it. It will get easier and better. Everyone has had to endure the pain.

I learned more from you than anybody else. I don’t know why but it works for me. Thanks.

I remember how I watched this video when I bought my first guitar 5-6 years ago and it was hard for me...Now I'm in two bands...Thank you Justin
+Вероника Андреева yes, one is punk rock, and one is alternative rock :)
15 years later, this lesson is still great. This is such a fun song to leave as a beginner.
You know that was prolly one a the best lessons I've seen on TH-cam!!! Some guys don't even slow the songs down or they just go or talk way too fast! That was really good & I think you singing thru it really helps too! Thanks a lot!!!
Fantastic
RIP Buddy Holly.
Gone but not forgotten

As fan of Peggy sue song, I really amazed with your version. I love it

There's no better guitar teacher out there on TH-cam!!!! Thanks Justin!
I don't play guitar, don't intend to play the guitar but ... watching and listening to your tutorials is simply enjoyable. Thanks, Justin.

I love the way you sing the song in the beginning.
Great job justin , and he is trying to keep it as simple as possible for beginners so we can feel like we are making progress Thanks once again Justin
Many you've REALLY helped me with the A to D, Thanks!
Thank you for the easy-to-follow lesson
In order to play the instrumental solo, you need to play upstrokes too folks!
Hey kudos to you man,I've been learning 1 year now and seriously i dont think it's all about hw good u play but hw much playing matters to u...Rock On bro..!!!

If there was an award ceremony for best online guitar teachers i think that justin and marty would on the red carpet, well done guys and thanks a lot for all your free lessons
i found this to be a really good exercise for playing chords from the proper string
wow i like watching it in high quality so clear!!
The A chord fretted one behind two in front is the correct way not the beginners way. Doing it correctly enables the player to leave finger one on the guitar and speeds up the chord changes.
Great tutorial Justin! I appreciate the effort and time to show me how to play this classic that stands the test of time.😀👍🎸
Great lesson my man. You're a good teacher!
You are a good teacher

Thanks for showing the A chord form for this song. With horn rim glasses Justin, you would look a lot like the young Buddy Holly.
Saw a couple of songs you put on Yousician then looked you up on TH-cam, so glad I did as it's helping me no end, Cheers!
I love this man. Him and Marty from GuitarJamz are some of the best guitar teachers on TH-cam!
That's a great cheat on the F chord! I must use this.
Please Note: Not just down strokes folks - both up & down strokes for the instrumental break.

I've seen videos of Holly playing this, and it looks like he's using the F chord cheat that you show. Great video, I've kept up with your lessons, great stuff keep it up. PS. good luck on your album.
Hey Ksyb, I am glad it wasn't just me that thinks that Buddy was using the F chord cheat, and if it was good enough for him who are we to argue :-)
Great performance.
Thanks man, This helped me come up with the Bass line, I just made a Horror Parody called Mary Lou from Prom Night 2, and I couldn't find the Bass Line on line anywhere..
Haha so nice Justin :D
I like the way how you teach people guitar! Karma +1
Awesome. Im sure the origional was in A Dur but with the capo on the fith fret making it D Dur.
Busker Buddy On his 2 live video performances that still exist, Buddy doesn't use a capo. I'm not sure about the actual record though.
cheers dude = )

Would you please do a lesson on Ride on Josephine by George thourogood ? Thank you.
Hi, in the original song I can hear some sort of effect on D chord. Something like sliding down the neck but not really sure. Does anybody know what is the name of this effect?
He slides the D chord down to the 1st fret for a strum and then back again
