The writer of Singapore's anthem, Zubir Said, actually contributed a piece to be considered as Malaya's anthem. I am not sure if it was one of the shortlisted ones but eventually a modified version of the anthem of Perak was adopted as the anthem.
No matter how much Singapore and Malaysia bicker just like siblings rivalry. We will always patch up as we once used to be a nation but we on our own separate ways. Singapore and Malaysia has deep political, social and economic ties and every times there hiccups ..it made the ties stronger.. for the benefit of the future generations of both nations

Age 15 I had to move back to my home country of Malaysia due to financial problems. Continuing study in Malaysia is kind a tough for me at that time as I need to comfort myself plus need to memorize "Negaraku" in school which is hard for me as I'm use to it 😅. But now I can sing both National Anthem & I'm proud to be a part of Singapore (1996-2005)

I spent 3 years in Singapore (Chong Pang) as a child. I still think of it as my second home, and still after so many years sing the Singapore National Anthem ;)
Composer of this song is Zubir Said, he is Indonesian born (West Sumatran), live in Indonesia for more than 20 years and come back to Indonesia after married, then go to Singapore in 1941 until he died in 1987, that's why the language that use there is Malay Sumatran language and also the pronounciation is more to Sumatran, not like Malaysian Malay.
