Good luck with your quest for a grayling this winter! They have a reputation for being easy to catch - not my experience at all! • @SouthsideFlyFishing
      @SouthsideFlyFishing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers David! I couldn't agree with you more 😂. PTN on the point and Hares Ear on the dropper. In this video I actually switched flies and fished through that same run with a perdigon on the point and was able to pick up fish I'd covered with the pheasant tail. But I'm sure the smaller size is what fooled them, rather than the pattern. That Duracell can be so effective for grayling in the winter but seldom works for me the rest of the year. And the squirmy is only for when things get all dark and weird on the river 😂

    • @SouthsideFlyFishing
      @SouthsideFlyFishing 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cheers David! There are at least 4 angling clubs that manage fishing on the Clyde. This stretch is controlled by UCAPA and you can find out more about permits on their website: www.ucapaltd.com/freshwater.html. The other clubs are Mid-Clyde, Lamington and Hozier. A good rod/reel combo for the rivers would be something like a 9ft 5wt rod and a floating fly line. That would cover most types of fishing on the rivers. If you're on a budget, the new Shakespeare rods are good value for money. I also like the Redington Classic Trout rods. Tight lines 🙏🏼🐟🎣

    • @SouthsideFlyFishing
      @SouthsideFlyFishing 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Louis, great to have you aboard, and delighted to hear you're enjoying the videos. I use barbless hooks all the time these days because I believe they promote fish welfare. Barbed hooks can do quite a lot of damage even to a smaller fish, and I even prefer to cut my line rather than perform surgery on a deeply hooked fish. I do lose a good few fish and there's even an argument that if you're so concerned for their wellbeing, why put a hook in them at all 😂. But that's my thinking re barbs. Tight lines 🙏🏼🐟

      Alistair, you're a gent! Andy and Ieva are proper TH-camrs, so it's flattering to be mentioned in the same breath. Believe it or not, I've never fished the Tweed! But the rivers are so similar in profile, I'm confident that all the flies that work on the Clyde will do the business on the Tweed too. Some will disagree but with grayling I honesty believe locating the fish and presenting the fly to them at the right depth is 90% of the battle. Hi Neil. It’s rare to find a hatch in December in my neck of the woods. You get the odd BWO or midge coming off but the fish tend to be tight to the bottom. Small perdigons tend to work well if there are smaller flies about. A teeny drab FFly would do the business for anything on the surface at this time of year I’d say 🤙🏼
