Love your videos. I remember a lot of fuss about Renee Zellweger’s weight gain for Bridget Jones’s Diary. Although the bigger controversy was probably that they didn’t cast a British actress.

Oh good point there - I’ve been thinking recently about the opposite case where British celebrities move to the US and apparently lose their accent there, then they cast Americans to fake British accents in movies 😅

I go to Yale School of Drama and I could write a whole essay dissecting this these questions. Very provocative video!

Amazing! 💕 That was definitely the intention, I know it’s a super complex question!

Great video! With your second question in mind, there are limits to what people are willing to accept. In instances where actors who are not even the same ethnicity or race as the character are cast just for their star power (Rooney Mara - Pan, Scarlett Johansson - Ghost in the shell), there has been a lot of backlash. In terms of body modification relating to size the same argument could be had, that there are actors who already fit physical requirements. Not sure where the line should be drawn.

For the question you asked regarding the use of prosthetics and CGI, I think hiring actors who already have the physic or ready to make some physical change is better, because if not then where is the limit ? Hire a white man to play a Japanese man and just give him CGI Japanese characteristics? I'm exaggerating of course, but to me these body changes the actors do feel like dedication to the role. My only concern is that it should be done with a medical team to be sure that the actor is doing this healthily and with minimum risk (and don't need to be as extreme as Christian Bale...).
Great video as always ! ♡

In theaters is not unusual to see actors whose appearances are not in line with characters. I feel like audiovisual needs to be more opened to it and move a bit away from realism. Realism is great, but acting is so much more. There's space for method acting and for blind castings and for great makeup and CGI artists. We don't need everything to be the same. If anything we need all experiences and exposition to ways of building narratives.

Good point - I think audience expectations in film are much more strict than in theatre. Wondering what everyone else thinks! Thanks for watching x 💕

I’m not familiar with acting and stuff but isn’t it more impressive to just act rather than method acting… or am I wrong?

Wow, amazing video! I highly recommend the movie "Dallas Buyers Club" with Jared Leto. It's an amazing movie. When I watched it, I was absolutely shocked by the weight loss of the main actors.
I think the casting for these movies should be fair in terms of also casting people in bigger bodies. This way, the best actor would win regardless of the body type. I assume Hollywood tends to pre-scan actors and pick out the ones that fulfill Hollywood standards (of course, this is my own assumption, no proof there).
Also, how about mandatory nutritionists for actors after signing up for a role? It would be safer if they still want to lose or gain a lot of weight for the role.

Ah yes I know the movie was highly acclaimed at the time but for some reason I never got around to watch it - I must watch it soon :) thank you so much for watching and sharing your opinion! 💕

There has been a time when the teacher, specially arts and gymnastics being the model..would impose an almost out of body relation with one's self. And that becoming a cultural trait of elevation. A simptom of perseverance, dedication, devotion to the case..doctors, bridge engeniering, electricists..they just never needed sex like bankers do..
Holliwood stays on the other shore, with the rebels. Theres no telling what body can do. Its really a fast transformation when all eyes are on you. So not for all, at all times..
I do believe that art is a miracle, so while you wait patiently for it to happen others may join the ride...not if you are part of the team and have been selected lively..that is no body shaming or ethnical snobism. It hurts the viewer more to start watching a movie based on true events knowing that theres artistry in the narration..ecc
