  • I recently did a quick tour of a few Landscape Photography "Park & Shoot" locations in the Snowdonia mountains. I mentioned that I would return to cover them in more detail. I chose this location to revisit first because I was rained off the last time I was here. But, more importantly, because I was in the area and the late afternoon winter light was fabulous!
    So I was hopeful of an interesting sunset to capture above the Snowdon horseshoe. I wasn't disappointed. Despite difficult windy conditions for a landscape photography long exposure, I was able to come away with a couple of images with which I was quite pleased.
    I really appreciate you watching, and if you haven't done it already, why not subscribe now and join me next time?!
    I find I’m being asked more and more often about the equipment I use. As I’ve typed up countless replies and links and lists for friends and viewers, I’ve now set it all out definitively here: dgriff.gallery/....

    Love the way that you don’t need perfect shots, great for us mere mortals. Think I’ll wait for Spring/Summer as I only have a lightweight travel tripod. I knew I shouldn’t have given my heavier one to my Niece

    Brilliant David love the features in that camera. I now use Fuji as my FF was far to heavy I’m 65. This year plan to list park and shoot sites as well in Scotland where I stay great idea! And who says you can’t shoot landscapes with MFT’s and APS-C and far too much emphasis on sharpness and clarity of detail nowadays there’s much more to image quality. Great vlog

    Nice video David. The images did a great job of capturing that great light. I really like that feature with the long exposures. I could have done with that on plenty of mine, which have been ruined by poor guesswork and poor calculations.

    • @DGriffGallery
      @DGriffGallery  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stephen - yes I think when the light is steady it's dead easy to work out a good shutter time, but if it's changing fast while the shutter is already open (eg blue hour) this is a handy feature to allow a reaction in real time 👍 😀

    Great shot from a tough condition location David. I need to catch you when you have some minutes in Facebook, to get some specifics on the mechanics of long exposure, using my specific gear, I don't even know if I can coax long exposures out of my little Canon. Thanks again for the informative vlog sir.

    • @DGriffGallery
      @DGriffGallery  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Gary, this is another one of those occasions when I look back on it and think I could've done a much better job. Unfortunately it was bitterly cold, and I was slightly distracted and rushed by not getting there in good time. So I set up rather urgently, and didn't really have a particularly pleasant time at the side of the lake. But the light was superb, and I really don't feel I did it as much justice as I might have if I approached it from a slightly less ruffled perspective! 😊👍

      The LR feature is really handy for the times when the light is changing fast and you might need to make an adjustment to shutter time mid-exposure. I've lost sky colour in the past where a re-take was needed after 3 or 4 minutes. Looking forward to our get together soon 😊👍🏻

  • @RobOutenPhotography

    Another great location David. The long exposure view in camera is fantastic, I never knew that it was possible to view the exposure "cooking"! If I had that feature on my camera it would save thousands of wasted images. The only saving grace is there all digital and easily deleted. But that said the composition would change and could be lost if the setup isn't correct. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.

    • @DGriffGallery
      @DGriffGallery  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes I bought this system for portability and image quality - I was aware of the various feature, but they were just bonuses. Until I started using them!! 👍😀

    Thanks for sharing this location again David it really did look windy. It is always a struggle capturing video footage in the wind I thought you managed well. Ah I figured I'd talk through that aspect on film because I need to select something that covers the bases for the images. So once I have a tree and composition s for full shot and close ups in mind I'll talk through the FL compromise as part of the vlog - so it depends ... 👍 😀

    Another winner David, well done. I've actually been to that spot and was chuffed to have "found" that composition myself, not realising that it was such an iconic location. Beautiful shots at the end and excellent demonstration of the "live time" exposure feature. I have used that on my long exposures with my em-1 and it is an incredible tool. Must make the non-mirrorless owners a bit jealous. Cheers, Jeff

    It was a fairly ambitious goal for any camera to shoot into the sun and hope to turn smooth a lake disturbed by high winds. Minimum iso of 200 doesn't help, but I thought the first image, with waves, very effective.

    That long exposure simulator is really cool. Whilst I love long exposures (>30 secs), its frustrating when you close the shutter too early and then have to cook and wait all over again!! I was actually in South Wales (yes I know!!) on Monday night and managed to nip out for an early morning long exposure!!

    • @DGriffGallery
      @DGriffGallery  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, ay blue hour you can calc a long exposure time but if the light changes mid-exposure your back to square one, and in the past I've missed sky colour as it's dropped out before I could start another attempt! 👍 😀

      Yes, a really useful feature which is available on all on E-Mx series. I use it on my E-M10 Mk ii quite a lot for low light photography. Another feature that I find very useful is the focus stacking capabilities (although for the E-M10 I have to stack them in an external software).

    • @DGriffGallery
      @DGriffGallery  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You might recall a Menai Bridge sunset i got last autumn? It was about 5 mins exp a good 20 mins after sunset and the light was dropping fast - I undercooked a couple of exposures even though I was allowing an extra 30-45 secs on the calculated exposure based on test shots. By the time I got one (eventually about 6 mins!) I'd almost lost all the colour. With this sort of thing it's bang on first time - so it's no gimmick 👍 😀
