This is a FABULOUS trick! I've been using Revit for over 13 years and didn't know about this, but have often wished I could do it. I have an affinity for modeling in place (I do my kitchens that way b/c it works really well for what I do and my thinking process), but I usually scold myself and force myself to take the time to create a family for things I do use often. But with this . . .this is a game changer!! I think I might have to set aside a day to harvest families from former projects!!!! EEEKK!!! Thank you!!
Wow! I was always wondering how I can save this as a family. I tried while ago and didn’t figured out. I thought it impossible. Thanks a lot. Very useful tip.
Its a great trick, but a suggestion, while we creating model in place component, we can group that at 1st time, if its gonna repeat in more places, then if edit one group, it will change others as well, Instead of saving as group we can use this for the time being also :)
Great content! I might want to suggest creating a family of the profile of the cover, in that way we can use it no matter the path/height of the wall is.. More flexible to have it that way. Don't you think?
first of all thanks for this great tip. I used groups to kinda instantiate floor types or other repetitive elements BUT i didn't get the part why we save as>family>group and not family... i was shocked when i saw u wanted to edit the component, u didn't have to go to edit group. anyway GREAT tip and i'll be using it from now on and thanks a lot and happy new year!
9:31 ;-) 1)_Select de modelled in place object 2)_Open "Edit in place" 3)_While inside, create a group 4)_Give the group a name, and reposition the origin point for the group 5)_While still inside "Edit in place", go:: File > Save as > Library > Group 6)_Give the new rfa file a name and a position 7)_Go open the newly created rfa file and load it into the project. Thanks!
It is not workin any more in Revit 2022. After File/ Save As/ Library/ Group the Revit can only save it as a Revit project (*.rvt). And saving as ...Library/ Family is still a huge mess :( Does anybody know a solution?
I've tried to do this but when I click on file and save as, and save as a group, it does not save as a family, my Revit 2023 does not behave that way. Maybe because it is a newer version?
Instead of making it a family would it be smarter to save your model in place profile as a separate profile, so if the arches are a different size you can maintain the same trim work aka cover by creating new sweeps for different size arches? Just a thought.
I have a prolem with roof eadge that apear behind the wall when i save a facade image , so can you please make a tuto about this and thank you from Algeria
I have a quick question for all. I need to create fare few 2D Families in Revit, but the problem i, I don't know where to start (ie. what family editor to use - generic??) or further more, where to group them. I did form fare few Detail Items, which are great for details, but in the case of a . . . . eg. vehicle outline or wheelchair circulation near the doors . . .under what category do I place them under? Thanks for all your help!
You are awesome the best Revit tutorials I have ever used. And I can see that I’m not the only one that thinks like that. I have one request from you. I have one issue that is not addressed in any place. I’m using Revit LT, and I still didn’t find a way to by pass the idea of not having the option to do in place component and families. Do you have any tip for that issue. I know few other people that have the same issue.
Hi, when I save as Library>Group, I can not save as .rfa, can only save as rvt. Why this happen and can you please guide me how to fix this? Best regards.
Hi there i am a beginner and have been following for some time now. Can you elaborate on the arcs you created using a simple "inplace component"? I know you can edit profile of walls but that does not make for a parametric component quite like the one you have. For a beginner do you suggest making your own parametric opening through modelling in place similar to the method you used for these sweeps? Thanks!

Hey balkan at which video u make this compounds wall
when you save it you go for an option group. You say "we can save it as a family but we don't want that" why so?
Sir, can have the model video….? Which you shows on the screen (arch one)
