Its just so perfect that this video has all the Jim's character names but the thing that makes it almost surreal in its serendipity is the Hat Making Contest. I struggle to believe that hat making competitions were a staple of parties in the fifties, and the fact "Jim" was rhe one who started it is just perfect. I was waiting for them to have a Marmelade Flinging Game or something

  • @hollywoodwerewolf

This is the kind of movie the adults would show in home economic classes. It was their attempt to give teenagers other options at their get togethers, to stop them from raiding their fathers' liquor cabinets and listening to that soul damning rock and roll. It had the opposite effect.

    Opie Meter
    Speedbump Avoidance:B+
Hangs back, says a few amusing things, actually keeps the conversation going, it wouldn't be Opie with out a few groaners ("invent the damn cell phone already")
    Show Contribution:B-
It's rare that Opie has any part of the funny, not much of an exception here, but him creating the frame work of the set up plays in this segments favor
    Final grade:B
He lays the frame work for the funny and that's the best use of Opie

@@TurdFerguson0528 I'm tempted every time but than people would miss out on some great bits from the rest of the crew, and people need to know how much Opie they have to deal with to get to those gems. So to be clear the grade curve is based how "tolerable" he is, so an A+ could be very well just he, by some cosmic force, doesn't interrupt or ruin a conversation

A party line was a shared line among more than one residence. Any of the homes could use the line. Each house had it's own ring (an ancestor of ring tones) so that you would know for whom an incoming call was intended. One house would have a single long ring, while another would have two short rings, for example. My family's cabin in the woods was on a party line when I was a little kid. I think there were 3 houses on it. I don't remember there being a way to know if someone was using the line when you wanted to make an outgoing call. I think you just had to pick it up and see if you got a dial tone, or if someone was talking.

Thank you for this video! It’s amazing to see it paired with the actual video. However it’s kinda weird that most of your channel is Patrice O’Neal stuff, something with soldier boy and this one clip of opie and Anthony 😂

That party blows. I'd rather be the only guest at a key party my parents are throwing.

This is really their best work in the times when there isn't a top tier comedian in the studio.

Agreed. He certainly plays the straight man, and there really is nothing wrong with that. The show needs it. Piriathy assumed wrongly that I am an Opie hater, and he couldn't be any further from the truth.
