That’s such a great quote, “the diversity of stories lead to strength.” As a fellow minority, I love how understanding and open-minded you all are about your views on this and is something I try to share too
Public libraries are super underrated in general. Everyone should have a library card even if you don't like to read! You can also get music, movies, the online stuff you guys mentioned. They have events for kids. All sorts of awesome!
100% agree. If you have a LA County Library Card, you can even reserve free entries to museums like LACMA, NHM and the La Brea Tar Pits for 2 adults and up to four kids. Get your card people. So many resources.
Warner Brothers Discovery, based on all the articles, want to replicate Kevin Feige for their new DC Entertainment division. The problem with that thinking is Feige is and was a perfect storm for Marvel -- he is a great producer who was already well-versed in the business side as well as a comics expert who knew the creative side. His ability to achieve what he has is an almost unique talent that may never be reproduced again, at least in the comic book movie genre. What Favreau / Filoni are doing with Disney Plus and Star Wars comes close, but even they answer to Kennedy.
That last part is incorrect. They don’t entirely answer to Kennedy cause even though she helped green light the shows she has no involvement with the creative aspect. Favreau & Filoni get to have their own free visions with each of their shows and haven’t had any issue with Kennedy or any other higher ups. Feige has also been giving creative freedom to other chosen directors for marvel for both shows and movies.
This is quickly becoming my new favorite podcast. Superhero News The Ultimate Edition! I know you guys are super busy but the more of these the better!
i think the best way to do "DCU" is to follow the path that the tv shows took. DC characters are very much tied to their cities. Each hero can do their own thing separately in their city, and the stories can stay simple and focussed without making everything interconnected due to the events of movies of another superhero.
This is definitely my favorite episode of the podcast so far. I've been following you guys since the Superhero News days and I just love when you go off on pitching ideas for movies, especially when it comes to DC stuff.
I agree that there would probably need to be a time jump for The Batman to include Robin but I do think it did show Bruce's penchant for seeing himself in a kid that is suddenly orphaned and showing them sympathy so the character trait is already there to lean on it down the road.
Yes. Shout out to public libraries. It was my source for taking out music before streaming platforms. Plus, it’s a great source to take out movies not streaming.
Love these guys, I feel like in another life these are my comic nerd brothers who understand all my sentiments about the DCEU. Much love to you guys! Love the content! ❤️
I started reading the Jason Aaron run of Thor after I saw the trailer. It’s honestly amazing and I’d recommend everyone read it before watching Love and Thunder. Gorr is such an interesting character and I hope that Christian Bale does him justice. He’s essentially Kratos but more sadistic if that’s possible
1:14:32 - Characters like The Question , Zatanna , Origins of characters like Ra's Al ghul , Justice Society of America , etc can be explored in HBO originals and then slowly integrate those characters and story arcs into the mainstream world. That would be a cool way to expand the pantheon on DC universe.
A D.C live action show exploring the more mystical/magical side of the universe would be great, the Young Justice episodes covering that stuff has been fun.
This was an amazing talk and i love how yall appreciate DC's characters and just want them in good stories. The Green Lanterns and the spectrum are my favourite characters and i agree with what you said about how to go about bring them to live action. *edited for spelling*
I really love the idea of earning that Justice League style fight against Darkseid where he gets to cut loose, like Adam mentioned. I think the other thing is making it clear both in tone and how he's visually portrayed and framed, and in character, that he is NOT a God. He has powers, he can do more than others, but at the end of the day he's just a dude who wakes up every morning and says "How can I be a better friend to those who need it today?" That applies to him in costume, as well as at the Daily Planet. He's so earnest and caring and... honestly, Tyler Hoechlin's Superman isn't the ONLY way to do it, but it's certainly that vibe of just never not caring about who he's interacting with.
Also, THANK YOU Hector for adding that bit at the end. I couldn't agree more. It's one thing to let a creator create, but you have to find the right creator for the job. They MUST understand the assignment.
The Flash has such a rich history in the comics, I can't believe we're about to get a flashpoint story when we haven't even met his mother and now his recasted father. He's my favourite character just sucks to see him being mistreated just for a money grab
You guys need to create your own film studio company, maybe in 3-5 years you're directing Marvel Phase 6 projects or something along those lines! Keep it up, I love the angle and perspective, especially from the point of view of first-generation dudes like yourselves!
I am loving that new Manscaped-powered-2-episodes-per-month thing! Getting back to what Adam said about a Green Lantern tv show, you literally could take the comic book series "Tales of the Green Lantern Corps" and work it into a tv show. Each episode (or two) could focus on another GL policing their sector. You could feature the different color spectrums (you could do whole episodes on orange and Larfleeze alone) and you could do classic stories like "Tygers" or "Why Mogo doesn't socialize". It baffles me that this hasn't been turned into a content vertical *gag* already!
Been following this channel since superhero news reacting to the BvS trailer days and this might be my favourite piece of content the three of you have put up.
Your talk about Superman reminds me of why I like the show Smallville so much. It wasn't perfect but when it stuck to the development for Clark as a character it was perfect!!!
This conversation is why I first subscribed to you guys and have follwed you across three channels for years! You have passion and love for the content and an understanding of the industry. Keep up the awesome work! #hiretheseguyswbdiscovery
I think it should go somewhat like this: 1. Superman (steal the idea from STAS that Brainiac had a hand in the destruction Krypton) 2. Batman 3. Wonder Woman 4. Flash 5. Superman/Batman: World's Finest (I think these 2 should meet before they meet everybody else) 6. Green Lantern movie (set mostly in space, at the end of the movie they send him back to Earth because Brainiac is heading there) 7. Justice League (Martian Manhunter comes to earth to warn us about Brainiac, who also destroyed Mars) Brainiac also gives you the tool to have a disposable army, but think they shouldn't use that in every team movie (like Marvel with the Avengers), maybe in the second JL movie they fight the Crime Syndicate or something so every JL movie feels a little different. Great video! Greetings from Chile!
My nephew's favorite three Marvel characters are Mile Morales, Peter Parker, and Cap. I ask him what he likes best about them, and he says, "Lots of different things!" Then he goes into a fully thought out and organized list about why they're awesome. He's 7. And he'd LOVE talking to you guys. I'm not cool enough. 😆
Great discussion folks. Let's not kid ourselves, films are a costly business. The Commerce part will outweigh Art endeavor every time. At least within the boardroom. How Marvel has broken the system, is nothing short of a miracle. The suits can learn from how Marvel broke the system, which I believe even they cannot replicate. The moment which businesses can learn from is the keynote by Kevin Feige for Phase 2 at SDCC. It seemed like an apple presentation by Steve Jobs, I really feel it had that level of an impact. The cheers behind every film title, the launch strategy and the complete unraveling of the infinity saga! That is what DC needs to find. A creative who can think strategically and look at the returns over a period and not just do continuous course corrections at everyturn. Either go all in or dont. The elseworld style thing they are doing with Joker etc, maybe a better eway to go about to be their own thing.
i am board with you guys.... i hope DC becomes studios like marvel did and become's independent entity under warner discovery and can run creative decision smoothly.
I agree with Adam. Ya gotta start with a clean slate with the dceu: here’s my take for what’s it worth: 😅 PHASE ONE: I’d skip over most of the origin stories for these characters. 1. Superman film/ I agree witch Adam but I’d go early days during the daily planet, Brainiac as the villain, Clark discovers brainiac was the cause of kryptons destruction, epic fight ensues, cameo John irons/Steel and Bruce Wayne( not Batman 😉) 2. Batman film with clay face as the villain,( need to lean into more of the fantastical villains within Batman’s rouge gallery imo) 3. Wonder Woman film, giganta as the big bad. 4. Green lantern-Jon Stewart ( sup cameo) 5. Flash-gorilla grodd 6. Man hunter-( set in the 60’s) 7. Hawk girl ( invasion of the thanagarians)LEADS TO Justice league
Just want to say. I agree with every single word you guys said on this podcast. Love watching you guys just hangout and talk comics, movies and life! Keep it up!
Maybe they need to synergize more between the properties: Martian Manhunter: 90 Day Fiancé, Dr. Fate: Pimple Popper, Justice League: Naked and Afraid...
Green Lantern would be a fundamental movie to expand the audience's knowledge of the vast DCEU complexity - much like Guardians or Strange did for Marvel. The idea that what happens on planet Earth is a spec compared to the full multiverse wealth of stories should be the pillar for mapping out a long-term plan. Like you guys said, it should be done so by someone who actually knows about the comics. I am confounded that, even having Geoff Johns working for them, DC managed to galactically fuck it up. Should they chose to extend the vast narrative that already exists first, rather than going for the big bucks, big personality-known superheroes, interest would surge naturally because , as they do in the comics, these narratives would interweave and flow in a much more authentic way. Great chat guys!
In regards to integrating Battinson into the main DCEU--Matt Reeves only agreed to do The Batman if it wasn't part of the main continuity. After the success of the movie, they're building a Batman-centric universe with a Penguin show, an Arkham Asylum show, there was going to be a Gotham PD show that was going to be a prequel to the movie that got scrapped. Maybe we might see a Catwoman movie on HBO Max? I don't know. They need to hire you guys to clean up this universe.
I'm liking the young Superman traveling to the future with the Legion of Superheroes movie as a way to reboot Superman cinematically. Green-light that pronto! Also, John Henry Irons should be introduced as Lex Luthor's "Black friend" first then he defects to Superman's side and becomes Steel after his death IMO.
Give me a Superman movie with Metallo as the villain. One of my absolute favorites from the animated series. Could even make him kind of a smaller jokey villain similar to what Shocker is for Spidey
I feel like D.C has such a great talent pool when it comes to the animated stuff I kinda wish they'd pull writers and directors from that talent pool more, like Young Justice is great and there are so many good D.C Animated movies and Shows.
17:00 THIS! I HATE when people say it’s “only for kids” or “why are you enjoying this, it’s for kids” for example (I know this isn’t a comic, but I still stands lol) the Disney channel’s show “GRAVITY FALLS” like yeah it’s a “kids show” but once you actually watch it it’s an AMAZING show!
Fun fact: Booster Gold got all of the Legends of Tomorrow sent to time jail in the series finale/forever cliffhanger of that show! I will never be happy again! Edit: Also, Adam's pitch for Superman reminded me of Superman:Man of Tomorrow where Clark is just an intern at the Daily Planet and trying to figure out his responsibility as a superhero in a world that doesn't trust him (minus the Red Scare bits and the other heroes like Batman, Hal Green Lantern, and Barry Allen Flash.)
19:30 The character of Batman as a whole NEEDS a Robin! Whether it be Dick, Jason, Tim, Stephanie, Damien or whoever comes after. They are vital to his character because he creates a family that he felt he never had (besides Alfred). Anyone who could ever argue other wise is foolish and I'm absolutely taken aback by anyone who compares Robin to Jar Jar Binks. What are people smoking to come up with that take? I did not expect to have this reaction but I am floored haha And btw Battinson NEEDS a Robin in the next film! He needs it! I feel like he would be the only Batman who would think adopting a child would be a good idea. But also to teach him more about life is worth living for and that there are other ways of having a family than your typical nuclear family.
I just want to see two things in DC live action - a movie of Superman dealing w/ Mr. Mxyzptlk & a series of TV mini-series introducing & assembling Justice League Dark.
I'd love to see Dick Grayson. Similar with the last iteration of Joker I think introducing Harley Quinn was the best thing because it was something we hadn't seen before with the Batman I would like to see the bat family explored because we haven't seen that fully realized
I've actually really been enjoying what DC has been doing with their newest animated film universe. I've seen it coined as the "Tomorrowverse", I'm not sure if that's official but that's what I'm going to use in this post here. The Tomorrowverse started with Superman: Man of tomorrow. Which was a fantastic iteration of the character that showed a young Clark Kent at his most positive, inspiring and hopeful state. I really think that's the perfect foundation to build a universe on. After that film they slowly started building towards a Justice League movie by making GOOD FILMS (That's important) that help establish different characters in their own right (Flash and Batman). They have little nods to other heroes and cameos, but they're all standalone and good films in their own right. I think Discovery should take the same approach by starting small and just getting the character of Superman right. I love Henry Cavill, but his iteration of superman might come with some baggage so it might be best to just recast and start over. A younger superman would be my preference, and then build from there by just making good movies first. They seem to want to include television in their DC entertainment studio entity, and I think that's great. Just focus on making great shows first, and then use them to help expand and build upon the world you establish with that first superman movie. I think Discovery can really get this thing moving in a positive direction and I'm looking forward to it. I just think it's important to hire the right creatives to head the studio and various projects. Thanks anyone for taking the time to read this rather lengthy reply lol
Have Hector pitch your Superman concept that can introduce a new Justice League. Batman will always have an audience, but the other properties of DC are misunderstood Gold Mine of opportunity. Find a collaborator that can sell a continuity of the Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). We need a good Green Latern movie.
I don't see how Rob Pattinson can stand beside Henry Cavill, Jason Mamoa, or Gal Gaddot and buy them as a team...especially since he's a younger Batman I dont see how he would be on the level to at this time to team up with them. I would prefer if they do bring in a Supes or Wonder Woman for Rob...that they're also younger less experienced as well. idk...it's a big mess at this point
Hire you 3 Lol. I've been doing this for years and will continue to do so, I volunteer to play Kyle Rayner. Make a 7 episode series or 1 film and keep it simple. Introduce his lovd for art, mango, anime etc... we show his hispanic side from where he gets his wit. Have Kyle saving his city N. Hollywood. No end of the world scenario. Then send him to space!
They released a hardcover omnibus of Jason Aaron's Thor last week. Over 1200 pages. I just finished reading the Gorr arc and I've barely made a dent in it. (Also not sure if y'all will mention that in this episode yet. I just finished watching Adam ask about it so I've barely made a dent in the video either.)
Great podcast you guys! I loved hearing about how a DC cinematic universe could be developed. As someone who has grown up with more modern animated series in the 2000s and who loves the DC universe, I am rooting for you all to be picked up by Discovery to manage and develop that universe. DC needs to put passion before financial gain as you guys suggested. Keep up the great work! Hopefully I can earn a position at DC comics in the future and see you all there!

Marvel: the mask
DC: ppl behind the mask
I agree a ton
I'd like to think that, with the infinite number of timelines out there, there's one where you guys are running the DCEU, and it's a masterpiece.
This is definitely my favorite episode of the podcast so far. I've been following you guys since the Superhero News days and I just love when you go off on pitching ideas for movies, especially when it comes to DC stuff.
Thank god for Manscaped giving us 2 episodes in a month

😂 noted. Thanks for the rec
god that entire ending made me so sad about the current state of the dc cinematic universe. the potential.... the potential is RIGHT THERE.
Always love the energy and vibes from you guys
Hire you 3 !!!
My ASD acts up when I hear "DC Comics"... the 'C' in 'DC' stands for 'Comics'
Awesome t-shirt Hector!
DC hire these three
I can’t wait for them to watch season two of Superman and Lois 😁 gonna be awesome
I’m throwing my hat into your DCEU creative justice league.
Cheers to FRESH NUTS! (This comment was brought to you by Manscaped--keep that hedge trimmed).🤣😁🙃

Really enjoy these podcasts💪🏽by far my favorite
I love you guys!!!! This show is my favorite one that you do.
Guys I love all your podcasts and I love your guys friendship keep up the amazing work.
Engagement for the engagement god!
"Directed by Dallas How" Dallas How is a solid alter-ego pseudonym
I just want to see two things in DC live action - a movie of Superman dealing w/ Mr. Mxyzptlk & a series of TV mini-series introducing & assembling Justice League Dark.
Love yall been watching yall forever!!
We love you guys so much! Been a fan for a long time. So great to see the progress and everything boys. Keep it up!!
Love this podcast!
Shout out to P.Wils!!! That was a great video of his.
im honestly rooting for you guys to restructure DC-I am a batman girl grew up with the animations and it has so much potential and superman as well
I'd love to see Dick Grayson. Similar with the last iteration of Joker I think introducing Harley Quinn was the best thing because it was something we hadn't seen before with the Batman I would like to see the bat family explored because we haven't seen that fully realized
I want the JSA as well, A perfect reboot for the DCEU would be a modern New Frontier.
X-Men Season Two!!!!!!
Great conversation
Just as I was going to sleep! Thank you 🙏
Y'all definitely need to get hired by WB Discovery but I hope you at least have some of their employees watching your content 👀
I think Superman needs a Ted Lasso style optimism to contrast Matt Reeve’s Batman. I think Taika Waititi would be amazing to hand Superman over to.
@@nalday2534 you’re wrong.
@@nalday2534 WOW way to tell on yourself. You REALLY need to practice your movie analysis skills, lol.
