Thanks for this video. It reassured me its off-road capability. I have this Exceed Tourer PHEV in Sydney for more than a month now and loving it. No regrets paying 75K for a Mitsubishi car. Very efficient for 2000 km (80% urban driving) travelled, I average 1.4L/100km usage. I charge every other night like my cell phone. Also, I love the quick & smooth EV driving experience My only concern going outback is no spare tyre.

We were surprised by its off-road capability. Agree that the lack of a spare is a real issue! You could carry one on the roof given the 80kg roof load limit.

Why not fit a tow hitch spare wheel carrier when you go on road trips? Seems like a quick and easy way to get peace of mind. Assuming you have a tow hitch on it that is...

That’s exactly what I’m palling to do, the Mitsubishi factory hitch is offensively low though so I went for another brand hoping it’s going to be a bit higher into the bumper.
We’ve done 2500kms in ours now, my wife can travel 60kms round trip to work 3 days a week full ev, we can charge it the days she’s not working via solar, or we charge it off peak for $4. We’re averaging 3.1L/100kms but that’s including a larger 400km trip where i saved the batter for the climb of the mountain pass and used regen to extend our range.
They are fun off-road, had to see for myself in the paddock. Think I’ll go for a set of 18’s and slightly taller tires with a hitch spare for more off-road trips.

Having electric motors is like having the world's best low-range drive. I've taken mine on some sand-pit near home which I was tentative about at first (only picked it up that day!) but confidence increased as you can drive it REALLLLLY slow and just climb the sand and compress it rather than spinning the wheels and digging in. It was quite a revelation and something I was desperate to try as most interesting country destinations in WA involve sandy tracks at the least. The S-AWC torque vectoring on high speed bends is also something quite spectacular, meaning long trips are a driving joy.

I've always had a soft spot for Mitubishi and Subaru in the States. When I was in the market for another car, I seriously considered a 2017 Outlander GT S-AWC, but settled on a Volvo V60. After I've had my fun with it though, I'm thinking this will be the next choice with 80% of that treatment. It's a real shame we don't get the Pajero/Montero anymore. I'd love every second of that...

    Great Vid.
I agree that 99% of the outlanders or any crossovers sold in Aus will never do something as you showed in the vid.
But car reviewers are partly responsible for that too. No where in any road tests , these suvs get tested demonstrating their potential for mild offroading. Only thing we see is them getting out of parking lots.
In dry Aussie conditions, most of the so called 4x4 adventurers never go beyond the gravel roads, and these crossovers can easily tackle them.
The more reviewers start testing these crossovers for camping, fire trails, mild sand and snow areas, more people will feel confident pushing these crossovers.

Definitely more off-road chops, mainly thanks to the significantly more powerful rear electric motor vs something like a RAV4 eFour

Agreed, the RAV4 is so much worse than this. The Outlander is the best looking inside and out in the segment.

Nice try.. that was the older generation Outlander that went through the Papamoa stream. some other ICE vehicles went through there and had to be towed out as well.

Did you ask the engineers about possible battery damage off roading? I don't think the unit comes with any serious skid plate protection. One dent in the battery would mean having to replace it. The list price is about $15k US

Sorry to tell you but it doesn’t use the ICE engine for propulsion until it is doing 70 kph . If you don’t believe me then ask their engineers.

    • @petergoodall6258

Depending how you define propulsion. It often uses the ice to power the electric drive train at low speeds. Otherwise how would it drive when the battery is flat? First few words on the drivetrain in this video are correct.

@@hughedwards4511 Don't think the petrol outlander out have enough torque to do those kind of off roading. The PHEV is rated 185kW, 450Nm vs 135kW, 244Nm petrol version.

    • @adampoll4977
      @adampoll4977 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The PHEV eliminates the usual issues of mid-size SUV type vehicles. Most SUVs have an "on-demand" all-wheel-drive system (bar Subaru) which typically drops out at about 40kph or, more importantly, when the transmission (usually CVT or auto) and/or clutch pack to the rear drive overheats and shuts off. The PHEV has nearly equally powered motors front and rear (with their own cooling system) and the full-time all-wheel-drive really IS full time at any speed and in any condition. Plus, you have torque from standstill and it's basically impossible to stall which means you NEVER have to worry about not having a low-range gearbox or being in the wrong gear.

What's wrong with taking a spare tyre if you know you're going off roading? Are you that thick? "oh it doesn't come with a spare tyre, means I can't take one with me". Also you don't need to carry extra weight driving around town, tyre repair kit is more than enough.
