@JelMain I do that on some of my pieces, but I wanted the stitches raised on this one. If you have a steady hand and pay close attention to where you're punching, you should be able to keep them pretty straight!
not being a big nail polish guy never even though of using it as thread lock I usually go with oh lets see thread lock or in a pinch supper glue interesting tip cool looking collier

I use an edge-groover to set the stitching line, so the holes are punched in the ditch: it stops the tendency for the punching to wander off-line.
