"I really underestimated the power of having series together" As someone who tried to have rainbow shelves for a grand total of 3 days, this quote really hit hard
if it helps out, i have rainbow shelves but i keep series together by hiding the rest of the books behind the first book, which i have cover-facing if that makes sense?? and like if the first book of a series is red for example i put them all in red
love how it turned out!!! i think it looks more balanced and it enhances the decor and the books, not the blocks of colors :) i don't get why people do the rainbow shelves thing bc i like more of a "messy" look? like all the same color books together stress me.... idk not saying it's ugly but i prefer a normal organisation. and i put mine by the stage of life i read them or agrupate them by author only if i have several books by them
@Lavinia Moisei Vieira Lima right??? and i don't know about others but in my country a lot of editions are neutral colors so it wouldn't work out very well
I love watching you like organizing your bookshelf and decorating your room it's so pleasing to see because you're one of the booktuber who is practical and minimalist when it comes to book buying....
Oh no, now you have me redoing my bookshelf. It's like a yawn; I see someone else reorganize a bookshelf, I cannot fight the urge to reorganize my bookshelf.
Honestly, your shelf looks great. You did it really well. Personally, I separate mine by category, genre, and section. Categories include things like my classics, my poetry, my plays, my prose, and my anthologies. Genre speaks for itself but my sections are a mix of sub-genres and other. And by that I mean I have a portal-fantasy section, a dark academia section, a retellings section and a favourites section. I want to put in a dystopian/post-apocalyptic section because it turns out I really like that setting but I don't know how to incorporate it on my shelf. I'll work it out though.
You need to put shade lovers that are ok with diffuse light on the shelves, like ivy! AND, fun fact, you can actually rip up ivy leaves and use it as laundry detergent!
I definitely organize by genres! I usually pick my next reads based on what genre I feel like reading and the picking is just easier and it looks more...organized? 😂 also I could NEVER separate series or authors! I have a long fantasy shelf where I keep high adult fantasy on the left and YA/urban on the right...thrillers and horror are kept together..I have a english/american classics small shelf and another one for international (italian, french, russian mostly) classics...and finally I have a shelf for "mixed" books that don't make it to the other genres gangs 😂
I have two shelfs, in one I put all my academic books, feminism books and classics and the other is my fantasy bookshelf and I stack all of my favorite fantasy books in the same level, the rest are organized by read and unread. Works for me because I only know where to look depending on the mood am in :p
@@TheBookLeo omg thanks for replying!! just wanted to let you know i’ve been watching you’re videos for so long and i absolutely love all of them!! so keep up the good work.
LOVE reorganisation videos! These are perfect to play in the background while I work and honestly that seems to be the only way I can get through a work day these days lol
this video makes me want to reorganize my bookshelves... but I just did that last month... oh well. It is only 2 am. A little reorganization won't hurt.
I don't know if this will make sense but you really match your bookshelfs now, like i can really see your personality reflected in them. Loved the video❤
I have four shelves, that's are sorted of organised by genre (but not really), then in rainbow order 1. Foreign language books 2. TBR & Nonfiction 3. Adult Fiction 4. All of my YA, series and childhood favourites I like the rainbow, but the type of book is more important to me!
Great system you have made! my system works like that, by the order of importance: 1. Genre 2. Series 3. Heights 4. Author 5. Similarities. also, I don't put enough decorations om my shelfs, maybe I need to change that, yours looks so good!
Tip concerning Rainbow Shelfs and series: pick your favoured coloured book of the series and have it facing outward in its colour section. Hide the rest of the series behind it. I know this is not a strategy for everyone but it works for me. Most of my series have matching coloured spines anyway though.
Reorganizing bookshelves is hella frustrating specially with my tiny bookshelf. I believe the best way to do it is to make it as functional as possible. I'm also planning to reorganize mine so thanks a lot for this video!
I organise my books first by genre then it depends 🤷♀️ For example, I organise my classics by century that way I can have all my modern classics on one side. I also organise my non-fiction by topic/theme (art, history, feminism, racism, self-help...). It helps to keep track of what I want/need to read on more. While I tend to organise my Fantasy by author/series...
Yay! I literally love it when you upload, was binge watching all of your books hauls and unhauls 😂♥️ By the way, I just read Uprooted and I loved it. I should read more fantasy like you 💕 loveee♥️
your bookshelves look so pretty (both before and after)!! i keep mine organized by genre, but it's a total mess now, because i've ran out of space and i have books of different editions, even if they're from the same series or something XD i have to figure out a new system!!
My shelves are organized by author and I love it because it gives me library vibes and because with a lot of books I can't tell what genre they are lol
Mendelssohn's march from A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of my favorite pieces of music but I always wonder what it would mean if it hadn't become what it is. Does that make any sense?
I get why people organise by color, it does look very pretty, but I feel like this it makes one focus more on the actual books and not the color 🤷♀️ love how it turned out (and great video as always)!! 😊✨ I personally organise them by genre and then author name 😅 I could never seperate series, or authors, and it feels soo good to have them alphabetically haha Also I aspire to one day have as many non-fiction as you, that's awesome! So far I have 3 😅
Oh my god, I can't believe it took me this long to find you - Uprooted is my favourite book too!! 😍 Other booktubers I'm subscribed to either DNF'ed it or didn't like it 😭 I've read it twice in the past couple years and I will probably re-read it again next year lol
I orginise my shelves roughly by genre (i don't have enough books, so sc-ifi, fantasy, dystopian go together and anything that could happen irl, ex contemporary, thriller, go together) and then my author within genre so, all books by the same author are mostly together. i My classics really trip me up bc i have a couple of books from a couple of editions and they are prettier together but then all the other classics look messy lol (also, say "classics" loosely, any old book is a classic in my shelves)
You could always put fake plants on your shelves. They always stay pretty and if you decide you don't want the fake plants anymore you can out a real plant in the pot.
I prefer keeping classics together, mostly because I tend to only buy them in matching collections (Penguin English Library), and it makes it easier as some classics don't fit in other genres... What do you even do with classics that were considered "contemporary" at the time, do they automatically become historical fiction?? I can't deal with that kind of decision making haha
I loved how you reorganised your bookshelves! I read the Angelfall trilogy as well - I loved the first book, thought the second one was ok but really disliked the last one. It turned very cheesy and basic. Maybe I just outgrew the series!
For some reason I always feel so immersed in your videos so when you sneezed, I actually said "bless you" out loud and then thought... wait, she can't hear me 😂
I don't count classics as their own genre for two main reasons: 1) There are classics of all genres. 2) What IS a classic? Why is it considered a classic? There is no objective way to tell that. I really like the finished product! I now want to reorganize mine, lmao. But i'm doing an internship 6 hours away (by train) from home and I only have a couple books with me, so... it'll have to wait.
When you talked about ways to organized the books I thought about "alphabetical!" And i didn't realize how stupid that was until you talked about finally putting series back together... And I have the audacity to think i'll try to make the world a better place, lmao.
Every single time I have tried to reorganize my shelves I end up hating myself because I end up getting lazy Also I remember when Angel Fall first circulated around booktube, I never got around to reading it but NOW I feel like I have to
If you want plants in you bookshelves, just look for plants that need less sun. You'd be surprised how many enjoy a fair bit of shade. I recently got a load from plantje.nl. Not dissapointed.

@@selina2052 Ooh that's a pretty smart idea! I have so many series tho
I'm tempted to try it to see how it looks but I know it'll make me feel uncomfy having the series split up 🙃 haha
I just make one shelf for series and leave the rest rainbow :)
I keep classics as a separate genre, cause I too like keeping editions together. And penguins are social animals... 😁
Omg Thats so sweet 💕
Yes! 😍
Agree, I do the same thing!
that’s adorable
Leonie: “I’m not gonna organise by author name because that’s boring and basic”
Me, who organises by author name: 👁👄👁
Idk why but for me the shelves looks more interesting when they are not organizated like a rainbow.

I like it when you can read a bookshelf like data visualization, a neat graph
