Great review, and I must say what BMW have done isn't radical, but it is a definite step forward, at 66 years old I'm on my third GS, after a lifetime of many different bikes, and I think you summed up the GS perfectly in it's ability to do everything very well. My last two GS's have been ADV's, so I'm waiting to see that next year, and I have no doubt I'll be getting the cheque book out again. Thank you.
Nice work getting your review out so early Chopsy! I can’t wait to have a go myself if only I could get someone to let me have a go!!!! Really glad to hear you like the machine, was hoping you were going to move the bike around to see how it felt lugging it about the garage….guess I’ll have to try that myself one day. Good work on the video, just wish I liked the looks of it as much as you do…..
Thanks Andy, I did do some slow speed manoeuvring when I set off from that stop. But got cut out in the edit, I can tell you feels easy enough to manage 👍
I don’t know what to make of the mask and dumbo ears looks weird Maybe it’s zoro with big ears. It’s a nice looking bike. im looking forward to seeing one at the nec bike show.

Had three, two 1200s and a 1250 GSA, all great bikes but being a ageing shortie I struggled with the height and the weight at slow speeds and the very clunky gearbox. Moved to a lovely low and light Multi V2S but as they’ve addressed my gripes I’m certainly testing one of these next time, and I love the new modern looks. The Triple Black for me but I’d like it in red😉😂
For those that worry about this sort of thing (me!) it looks like a the low seat option brings the ride height to 820mm (from 850mm) and the option of adaptive ride height control shaves another 30mm to give a final 790mm as you come to a halt. If you need more than that, go for the RT with the low seat in the low position which brings you down to 760mm.
@@LambChopRides I was thinking to myself towards the end of the video Andy would make a guest appearance 😉. Hopefully you two can do a couple cameos like on the Tiger 1200 videos again, that was great.

Great review Lamb chop. I've never really been a fan of the GS since the start of the 1200 days, but this could change my mind. The 1300 GS is now a sleek looking beast.
Great initial impression video, Chopsy, when you do your longer tour on the bike I'd love to see a review of what it's like for a pillion over distance too. My wife & I tour around a lot & this bike would be a serious contender for us if the passenger comfort is there.
I wish BMW made more of an effort to hide the radar sensors, the rear one is as subtle as a breeze block and the front one just looks silly. Otherwise I'm sure its an ok bike. Great review 🖖
Very impressed with the reviews of the new bike. Recently underwhelmed with a test ride on an MT10sp, yes quick, but that genre of bike do not manage the road surfaces we get in the real world. Currently on my third GS, a 1250., but owned many different styles and marques over the years. Many sports bike riders and none believers scoff at the GS, and lets be honest it has been hard to love the looks! Thing is, they are just sooo competent as road bikes. The fast guys stop laughing when they cannot keep up on country roads. Bumpy, twisty roads they excel. My main complaints: weight, gearbox, wheelies off the throttle…BUT it seems they have added some spice at last. Test ride required!
Will I need to ride my Ducati Pikes Peak v4 to the BMW dealer next spring to sample this new GS and the new XR1000M? I reckon the Pikes Peak is about right between them both. Build a 17” front wheel GS and closer yet. No gravel in my life.
Nice one Chops, great review as normal. Just been on the configurator and with all the needed options got it too £21,650 so for this type of bike with all the tech etc. its not a bad price.
Hope I don't need as many options as you as the base price is temping. Those options do add up fast. I went for a dynamic pack and comfort pack last time. I love the extras but hate paying for them. My current car is a titanium-x and if I ever change I'm not sure if I can come down to a basic model again.
Nice job. You and Kate must have ridden this bike on the same day with the rain. You should consider getting that "lasic" eye surgery. Best thing I have ever done for myself. It's just awesome. Price has come way down over the years. No more "misting". (fogging in the states) That bike seems to be a big step up if it impresses you. Can't wait to see what that engine will do in the R naked version.
txs for the review, seems like every-one and their mother in law is doing the gs now, but yours is the one i picked. I was considering the gs to replace the XR just because of the shaft drive. I changed my mind. I just bought a 2009 K1300gt with 23000 kms to supplement the XR for winter use. (and i get to keep the XR)

Something I would like to see is a comparison between your Gsx-r and Greg's. Of course you must have done an ecu flash first and checked the suspension settings. 0-60, roll on race, lap times, much like how Revzilla did Ducati vs Suzuki
Nice review, not a model for me but appreciate it’ll likely do well. It’s just a shame that outside of these reviews BMW’s customer care and servicing is abysmal to non-existent. They can sell but offer no support, I’d never purchase again or recommend sadly.
Me, a normal guy tested this motorcycle. Yes, it's gadget whise better and more nimble. The character of it is like a supermotard with off road tyres, which I personally don't like. I still prefer the pervious GS models and am curious how the new GSA model will end up.
I like this for sure. Looks 10x better than last model. Doesn’t stir the soul when I look at though. Picking up Multistrada Friday, but I really do like this. Engine sounds like a Duke 390
From America, we just got back from a 1 month vacation in England and Scotland. I drove a rental (hire) car for about half of that, I do not miss those narrow country roads!
More sporty, is what I always wanted in my GS, lighter and sharper.all boxes ticked! My 2023 triple black, will be replaced by this in 3 years, for sure. Nice real world review mate. Cheers 👍🏻
Thanks for the nice review. I think it looks a lot like my new Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Pro, which has a very smooth gearbox and fantastic smooth quickshifter. Wind protection on the BMW seems a lot better, but I'm still very happy with my bike. I might consider a new GS in the future though. I really love the looks and the reviews are positive so far. For what I've seen, I think it's easier to put the GS on the center stand for smaller people. I can't do that with the Tiger 😅 I really believe there will be many more women in the market for this bike and BMW knows that.
I am waiting to see it in person, but I am already sure that they changed it a lot and that they did a great job. Next year I am gonna try one for sure. Great video Lamb.
I’ve sat on one felt small in comparison to the old model but many like me have wanted it to be lighter. I own a 2020 gsa and I plan to keep it another 3 years. I’ve had it from new and I’ve no complaints but I think the new one when we get used to the looks will be a winner. Great review chops I’ve just brought a s1000r from Bahnstormer that’s another reason to keep the big boy. 😊
Well done for getting the scoop on this Chopsie. Nice that BMW haven't fallen into the trap of performance for the sake of it and made a gradual progression. I'm not keen in the front, but the 1250 wasn't a looker either 😅
i had a 1250 gsa the gearbox felt just like a 1978 r100rs had one of those new in 78 i thought the front end on the gsa became more and more vague the further it leant over, overall the 1200 triumph is so much nicer to use as i would never take either off road, who would when there are africa twins in the world.
No, it stays flat although the suspension is still working. I used to race bikes and am very familiar with the front end dive when hitting the brakes, but that is a whole different scenario and by the time you’re at the apex the bike should be neutrally settled and ready for gassing! When riding a GS (I’m now on my third (GSA)) the lack of dive initially feels a bit odd, but it’s something that you very quickly get used to. I actually like that fact that it stays flat when braking - it keeps the bike stable. Although it does stays flat when braking, weight still transfers forwards and loads the front, despite some degree of linked braking in certain modes, it’s just physics. But, if you can’t live without that dive…
Have you ridden a Multistrada V4S or Rally? I was waiting for the new GS to come out, considering selling my Multi, but after seeing their release there is just no way. Can't believe they haven't added CarPlay or brought really much else new to the market aside from the electronic windscreen now on an Adv bike. Will be interesting to see what they release for the Adventure version but I'm not holding my breath.
Very nice, lucky you to get a ride. I like the black, I have a 1200 GS and I like to ride long distances. And get it dirty. The gear box is ok, my old triumphs much better. I like the long distance comfort and the versatility. I do take it on gravel and logging roads. So I will drop mine, don’t want to have to fix indicator. I will need engine and cylinders protection.
Nice review Chops, I need to avoid BMW because I don’t need to upgrade but know I’ll be that person who just goes to have a look and leaves shaking hands on a new bike.
Thanks for the review good to see BMW keeping abreast of the competition rather than resting on their laurels. I’m a big RT fan, will be interesting to see this engine adapted across the model range. 🤣
So far the majority of bike reviews have slated the bikes looks and I know looks are very much subjective but I love the new bikes looks where the old bikes looks were IMO dated, another winner for me as a short arse is that it's much more compact and the electronic ride height adjuster has swung it for me, I can't wait to get a test ride.
I have the new Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer, which has the blind spot system. It has saved my bacon several times and I agree with you. Adaptive cruise control is another story..
Great first ride vis of the GS. I only got to see one for the first time last Saturday so full makes getting out there way ahead of the other vloggers. Haha. 👍😅
Great review as usual ……. But……. You’ve ridden the GS1300 and the Multistrada V4 Rally. Taking money out of it ….. which would you choose ? DSR does good reviews as well but he nails his flag to the mast and picks the top 3 so as your reviews are really good I’m sure all of us out here that don’t get a chance to test these bikes like you would value your honest opinion 👍
Great review but I see some negatives on this bike. 1 blob of plastic on the front which is the radar! 2 no rear brake light - safety issue for me I’m afraid & I’m surprised that the government has allowed this. 3 those plastic spaniels ears. Looks like they could have designed that better 4 no back lights on the buttons 5 was there a real need to move/ replace the keyless button and place it on the throttle side in lieu of the heated grips button? 6 those caps on the central locking points for the luggage, vibrations will have them off sooner than you think. 7 the current vario system is not compatible with this new bike so if you have those there’s a cost to add on. 8 The screen looks too narrow, so I’d be interested to know what the wind coming from the sides is like and if that adds any fatigue. As a BMW owner of a current GSA 1250. I won’t be swapping mine any time soon. As my teacher always said ‘ I think you could do better BMW’
So is the norden still your favourite adventure bike? Curious to know now that you jump on the new gs.. less hp and a better road engine than the V4 but always lots of weight to carry with you
Lucky you having a loan bike soon after its release 😊, lovely machine, loads of money and you still need pannier’s 😢,nice to see a comparison review of this and the 2023 Tiger 1200 GT Pro, great review 👍🏻.
Sold my BMW r1250r this summer (stupid stupid stupid me!) and looking to get a GS this time, really interested in the 1300. Would pick the R1300R if they would release one, but I've heard from dealer that's not expected until 2025.
Hello Lapinobel, I was a long standing fan of the R series (From 1994(R850R)up until the R 1250, owning 4 models over time. In 2021 , I made the move to the GS. At first I was overwhelmed by the shear size and weight, dropping the bike my first time out. Not very confidence inspiring. After doing some Enduro training, I absolutely love this bike. It is ,despite size, incredibly nimble once underway and more comfortable on tours. I can sit on this bike for hours as compared to the R, which was more cramped due to the more acute knee angle. Go for a test ride. There is a reason for the Gś success.
Can you tell me, as no one else has mentioned it, does the suspension stay low if You want it to? The wife is 5’2 and I’m 6’2 so would be good if it stayed low for her and I could raise it for me.
To be fair, no bike feels heavy when it’s moving. Even the 360kg Street Glide I used to have felt light… except when stopped and trying to manoeuvre it.
this looks more like the GS getting the technology that’s already out there to catch up with the competition. Any idea on what the list price is on the bike you tested?
Nice video, no doubt Bahnstormers will dangle the keys to one when I get my 1250 serviced early next year and my willpower will be tested yet again. I would love to see a review of what the headlight is actually like at night!
Great vid Chops. It looks great imo. I'm not in to the GS' tbh & I have no desire to own one as yet. However I fully appreciate they're iconic, supremely capable & this latest version could be one of the motorcycles ever made.
I have a 1250 GS & a K1600 GT. For eating big miles, at least to me, the GS doesn’t come close in terms of comfort, performance, and weather protection. For everything else the GS simply kicks but. Just got back from 5:days in Baja where the bike handled everything thrown at it. Incredible machine.
Rode one yesterday. Gearbox was not great at all, nowhere near as good as my V4S but still an improvement over my 1250. The shift is still notchy and jerky. Overall I wasn’t that impressed really so I think I’ll wait for the GSA and see what that’s like.
Nice review thank you ! If only you could have your visor open 10%… “Just” open will deflect all the wind, we can hear better, and your glasses won’t fog. 👍🏽
Unfortunately it was sooo foggy I had to have it 100% open to talk without fogging. I know how to work a visor I have been riding 30 years... ;-) But the audio actually came out much better than expected considering it was open! Shows how good that screen is.
Great review Chopsy , horrible day for it but the BM handled it well .👍 never a great fan of the boxer engined bikes ! But my mate loves them and has had a few. Oh and my other bikes an Audi 🙁😁😁😁👍

We all have our ideal bikes for me I’ve a tiger 800 xca after having bmw gsa’s I found them mucho to big. I must admit I fell for the bmw hype, including extortionist service bills. But after servicing my tiger and the feel of the Tiger it’s reminds me of how bikes should be. Sorry for comments but I feel that gsa are to big to expensive..
Shame they didn't do the illuminated switchgear and you can't transfer your old Vario panniers over..if you wanted. I like my GS1250, and I'm sorry to say there are too many things on this version I don't like. It reminds me of the Honda NC750X. Every review seems to like it...maybe it's just me?
Proper review by a proper rider. TH-cam is full of reviews on this bike from guys sat in armchairs. Does my head in🤪. I looked at it last week and thought it was awesome, unfortunately can't ride at the moment recovering from surgery. My dealer had taken orders for 30 by Saturday 😂 I love it.👍👍🏍️🏍️
@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOne Does it matter.? Mine won't be, only 6 months old 10000miles always keep 2 to 3 years and do 18000 a year. If it wasn't so new I would definitely swap.😱😎

It’s only 12 kg and 24 lbs wouldn’t be noticeable as it’s only equal to two panniers being fitted. Also what effect has the gearbox beinf fitted under the engine? To my mind if the same ground clearance is quoted then the gearbox fitted under the engine means the engine is sited higher which raises the centre o& gravity which is very important in the handling of a motorcycle. Why has all the testers of this new bike not noticed or mentioned this aspect. Most road tests seem more important with gizmos as opposed to real world changes.
Choppsy, a question if you will... I'm about to order those swisstrax style tiles for my garage floor. Can you tell me if your Abba skylift rolls on them tiles OK? If not I will get the smooth version. Cheers 👍👍
Man oh man, I still ride my 09 GSA and love that old girl, rode her from Atlanta Georgia to Prudhoe Bay Alaska. I don't ride it much as I have other bikes including a 2023 R1250R (In no small part thanks to your review!). That said even though the leap from my 09 GSA to my 1250r in both tech and quality is huge. Both bikes are superb, love them but for very different reasons. I see this 1300 to be the next evolution in mechanics and electronics and to be fitting with the pattern for BMW, with their GS and GSA 1300 they have yet again mastered the world and are second to none in adventure land. I think for those that can get over the sticker shock of buying a BMW bike there is a very bright future ahead. Don't get me wrong. I am a bike whore, I have owned about every brand including Harley. I have owned Cruisers (Harley Street Glide) (Yammy VMax) Adventure, KTM Suzuki and BMW and crotch rockets Yamaha FZR Genesis, FZR EXUP, R1 to name a few. I say this as I feel I have a well rounded view of what I like in bikes and what I want to do with them. I used to be a Despatch Rider in London so I have earned my seat time, now they are for fun. With all this in mind I really feel, that BMW make the best quality bikes period. If you are talking mainstream, obviously I am ignoring MV and such, they play in a different area. I don't see this new 1300 package and the tech changes that in anyway. It only reaffirms it.
The old one had awful road noise from the front end ,like a roar like tyre road noise coming up from the front .Has this been eliminated? I don't like the "forehead" that the front radar is housed in. I like the fact the prices are not inflated that much. I'd like a go on one in time ,if they shortened the rake on the 1300 rs a little and brought the bars back, repositioned the nav mount, that bike would be more me, I think . I like my v4 multi to much to last with it for a gs though . Nice one chopsy ... now.... ask me about the new multi v4 rs (yes anotger multistrada iteration) against the M xr and I think I'd go M xr / on price alone ... 😮 over 30k for the multi rs i think it was like 32k 😮
Yeah saw it yesterday, Yamaha said they will keep me posted when press bikes arrive. But it's April time, it will be at Motorcycle Live however I was told 👍

First TH-camr to comment thoroughly on its gear box 👍
Thanks 😁 was a big thing for me, I'm really surprised nobody I've seen has!
Is it possible to dial in some dive in the front when breaking? I like the feel of some weight transfer before/when tipping into a corner.
I went with the Triumph for exact same reason
Yes I've ridden all the Multi v4 models, well appart from the new RS.
I prefer real world reviews to bike launches so well done Chopsy.
Me too!
Looks like another winner.Thks.
Does seem to be a step up. Well done getting in there first.
Nice review Chops, I need to avoid BMW because I don’t need to upgrade but know I’ll be that person who just goes to have a look and leaves shaking hands on a new bike.
Haha 🤣 👍
The temptation gets to us all
Never thought I'd hear myself saying this but I want one!😂
Great review. Looking forward to a review of longer rides 👍
Great review Chopsy. Can’t wait to get a go on one.👍
Cool bike and nice review and all, but as a glass-wearer myself I have to ask: Did those glasses survive the drop?! @ 2:19 😆
haha very well spotted!! I actually then kicked them 3 meters across the carpark as I walked around the bike!! But yes they survived :-)
@@LambChopRides Very lucky. 👍
Great review of what sounds like a great bike. Now it's smaller and shed some weight I'm tempted to have a look at this to replace my Tracer 9GT.
Thanks for the review good to see BMW keeping abreast of the competition rather than resting on their laurels. I’m a big RT fan, will be interesting to see this engine adapted across the model range. 🤣
Lookswise not even getting close to the tiger 1200 series! I 100% believe that this bike on the road is a great machine but the looks it is.hidious
@@iliaskhottour3886the tiger 1200 looks shlt
Thanks Chops BMW always a bag of tricks to improve their bikes
Got a test ride on Monday. See what all the fuss is about. If I like will buy
First review of it I’ve seen sans spokes. Strapping myself in
The blind spot detection system should be fitted to all bikes where possible.
If you're too lazy to do a life saver, I agree 😂
I have the new Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer, which has the blind spot system. It has saved my bacon several times and I agree with you. Adaptive cruise control is another story..
Nice review chops, NC500 rideout would be a great test. 🤘
Great first ride vis of the GS. I only got to see one for the first time last Saturday so full makes getting out there way ahead of the other vloggers. Haha. 👍😅
Best of all it has shaft drive. Great review, terrific bike.
Looks like they could have designed that better
4 no back lights on the buttons
5 was there a real need to move/ replace the keyless button and place it on the throttle side in lieu of the heated grips button?
6 those caps on the central locking points for the luggage, vibrations will have them off sooner than you think.
7 the current vario system is not compatible with this new bike so if you have those there’s a cost to add on.
8 The screen looks too narrow, so I’d be interested to know what the wind coming from the sides is like and if that adds any fatigue.
As a BMW owner of a current GSA 1250. I won’t be swapping mine any time soon.
As my teacher always said ‘ I think you could do better BMW’
I’ve never considered a big GS before, but I like this slimmed down model, won’t be changing my f900xr for a couple of years though 😊
Nice one chopsy 👏🏻
Great review! 👊👊
if it’s like the k1600 it will have key override for central locking.
I don’t know what to make of the mask and the dumbo ears. Maybe it’s zoro with big ears
I’m looking forward to seeing one at the nec
Really loving this "latest new thing". Is it ULEZ-exempt?
Nice one Chops
Great vid Chops. Cant believe you got out on one first. TMF and Teapot must be kicking them selves 🤣🤣
Gutted!!!!
They are 🫢 But Bruce has bought one so full ownership experience coming from him soon 👍
He's kept that quiet. 😂
The more I hear about it, the more I like it......and I much prefer the looks.....this is a maybe 😮!
Lots of good features, but I still not sure of not having a back light just having the indicators as brake lights as well ?
Yeah I do agree, does make it harder to see the indicators but not a deal breaker
Can you tell me, as no one else has mentioned it, does the suspension stay low if
You want it to? The wife is 5’2 and I’m 6’2 so would be good if it stayed low for her and I could raise it for me.
To be fair, no bike feels heavy when it’s moving. Even the 360kg Street Glide I used to have felt light… except when stopped and trying to manoeuvre it.
Which would be a better bet for road only use and a tall rider, this or the Ducati Multistrada V2 or V4?
this looks more like the GS getting the technology that’s already out there to catch up with the competition. Any idea on what the list price is on the bike you tested?
Nice video, no doubt Bahnstormers will dangle the keys to one when I get my 1250 serviced early next year and my willpower will be tested yet again.
I would love to see a review of what the headlight is actually like at night!
Haha they certainly will!! 😆👍
When you get one chops ? Great and honest review as normal 👍
Haha I'm not quite ready for one just yet! 😁👍
Great review! I like the look of it. Hopefully when you do your long road test it’s dry! 😉
I hope so too!
Does it provide any steering feel? I always get "car sick" when driving previous GSs because my senses don't match each other.
Great vid Chops. It looks great imo. I'm not in to the GS' tbh & I have no desire to own one as yet. However I fully appreciate they're iconic, supremely capable & this latest version could be one of the motorcycles ever made.
Absolutely agree 👍 if I needed a bike to do big miles regularly then this is probably the bike to own
Well In My opinion the Tiger 1200 series is the one you should chose talking about putting some miles on it! And it looks much better then the gs 1300
@@iliaskhottour3886how did you find the new GS1300?
I have a 1250 GS & a K1600 GT. For eating big miles, at least to me, the GS doesn’t come close in terms of comfort, performance, and weather protection. For everything else the GS simply kicks but. Just got back from 5:days in Baja where the bike handled everything thrown at it. Incredible machine.
Rider assist is the blind spot and active cruise
Rode one yesterday. Gearbox was not great at all, nowhere near as good as my V4S but still an improvement over my 1250. The shift is still notchy and jerky. Overall I wasn’t that impressed really so I think I’ll wait for the GSA and see what that’s like.
Nice review thank you !
If only you could have your visor open 10%…
“Just” open will deflect all the wind, we can hear better, and your glasses won’t fog.
👍🏽
Unfortunately it was sooo foggy I had to have it 100% open to talk without fogging. I know how to work a visor I have been riding 30 years... ;-)
But the audio actually came out much better than expected considering it was open! Shows how good that screen is.
Would you have one over the KTM Super Adventure Chops
Great review Chopsy , horrible day for it but the BM handled it well .👍 never a great fan of the boxer engined bikes ! But my mate loves them and has had a few. Oh and my other bikes an Audi 🙁😁😁😁👍
Thanks Wattie 👍
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain you would not understand
This is not how I am
I have become comfortably numb...........Great vid Chops.👍👍👍👍
My dealer had taken orders for 30 by Saturday 😂 I love it.👍👍🏍️🏍️
Thanks buddy 😁👍
30 low mileage 1250's heading on to the market soon...all low miles, barely used, never ridden in the wet, excellent condition....
@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOne Does it matter.? Mine won't be, only 6 months old 10000miles always keep 2 to 3 years and do 18000 a year. If it wasn't so new I would definitely swap.😱😎
Chop's you need to buy the liquid divers put on their glasses stops the specs misting,, great review and bike is going to be a massive success,,☘️☘️☘️☘️ from northern Ireland
uhh that headlight.. 😖
They have a bit of get up and go. If you watch Nothing To Prove review on TH-cam he gives it some welly on the Autobahn 230 kph
Really good review mate, might even be one of your best 😀👍
Thanks a ton! 👍
Can I ask what model of Shoei helmet you’re wearing? I also wear glasses.
Choppsy, a question if you will... I'm about to order those swisstrax style tiles for my garage floor. Can you tell me if your Abba skylift rolls on them tiles OK?
If not I will get the smooth version.
Cheers 👍👍
No the lift moves over them no problem at all 👍
@@LambChopRides brilliant thanks, much appreciated!
Yeah there is still alot of grumbling and noise coming up to the rider. I'm with you on the Multi, think the XR will be the one
Any word when your getting mitts on the xsr gp ?
A factory version of the kit bike you rode recently.
Yeah saw it yesterday, Yamaha said they will keep me posted when press bikes arrive. But it's April time, it will be at Motorcycle Live however I was told 👍
