I just moved from Evernote to Obsidian and literally it has improved my life. being in Evernote user for nearly 15 years the software continues to go downhill and become unstable and unreliable. Obsidian is like a breath of fresh air.
Just curious, if you don’t mind me asking, how did you do the move? Did you copy over all the notes you had (or at least a selection of them)? Did you then link them up? If yes, did you do that all manually or is there a plugin to help with that? Sorry for asking all this stuff, I’ve never used Obsidian but am interested in all the linking, I just don’t know if having to do it all manually would work for me, as my mind is pretty scattered.
I'm in the same boat with Evernote. I started using it back in 2008 and have so much stuff stored there. Since the new company took over, things continue to go downhill. They're adding useless features, charging more, and quickly becoming the de facto standard for enshitification. I'm done with them and seriously considering Obsidian. Today, I tested the Obsidian importer plugin on one of my Evernote folders. I'm still on the fence about how well it works. Tags and content come across, but internal Evernote links don't function and are gibberish, so that data will be lost unless manually relinked. I'm not sure how attachments are handled. If you want to give this a try, you'll need to install the Evernote desktop client and export your desired content as an ENEX file. Obsidian has a plugin that can read and import this file.
@@stoney5137 I used the importer plugin at @cypherb1 mentions below. Pretty easy! There's a ton of good information out there so you can really morph this tool into anything you need.
I'm over Obsidian now. I've used it since it started, and I still have an early bird discount! The App is really a platform, and it can just take over everything, but it needs managing, and it ended up being stressful and overwhelming. The security thing is a red herring, as I also found out, just because it's on local storage doesn't mean it is safe!! I can say lots more so ask any questions you want
I’m the same. At this point I just use it for the obsidian publish feature but can’t stand writing in it. There should be more warnings to perfectionist to never try this app
@@OffTheScriptPodcast agreed, I went to Capacities, and the objects impose rigid order, and I realised I needed a combination of a bit of order and a bit of messiness and the ability to collaborate because no goo idea gets off the ground without other people.
Congratulations! Great video. Very functional obsidian. I'm waiting for them to create a reminders-notifications plugin to use it as the main notes app.
Am I able to save and email myself a note, so that I can work on something on my laptop, then just email myself the edit, and open it at home to continue working on it?
Not a single word about compatible accessibility features for Obsidian. This is why I don’t even bother to test it out. If there’s no screen reader support, it’s an automatic “no” from me. It takes a couple of seconds to say whether a tool is accessible or not in a general review, but no one does it.
@ToriZealot lol if they provided ANY other value I would. $48 bucks a year just to sync, that is a rip off. Particularly if you consider that they are charging $50 for a commercial license. And on top of they want $96 a year just publish notes to a blog??? It's called copy and paste. So screw that it's not even an open source project.
Obsidian Sync ($5 a month) is lightening fast, keeps everything synced between Windows laptop, two iPads, and an Android phone. iPad app is very good, and ideal for just dictating daily notes by voice using mic on iPad keyboard.
howwww pleaseeeeeeeee tell meee, I don't wanna switch to another app just because of this!!! And I'm a buffoon who can't really use syncthing, and I'm confused how to keepmy vault in both syncthing and in google drive to ensure a manual backup.

The best note taking app. I've used Evernote forever but moved to obsidian few years ago and never looked back. Still no android widget but that's ok.
Ah nice, good to hear the wizard to move-over worked well.
iCloud sync works just fine between multiple Macs, iPhone, and iPad.
Yes. Those on iCloud can sync the vault with Drive, without need to use Sync. But check how iCloud store data.
What about if I needed to see my notes on Windows?

Very detailed review, I really needed it. Thank you!
I thought Obsidian is way to geeky for me, but now I see I should give it a try
Thanks Eden, much appreciated, yes much more approachable now.
Am I able to save and email myself a note, so that I can work on something on my laptop, then just email myself the edit, and open it at home to continue working on it?
Yes. Obsidian is basically just an advanced markdown editor so you can use anything to edit the .md file and email that.
How good is Obsidian at handling really giant files, like 200 - 300 MB files full of images, text and linternal links?
Obsidian is the GOAT
Super notes app!
Will this sync between mac and Android
Every device is synced
Ohhh, is this where you went?!
Aha
Okay, sold.

Noted in comments. We can’t cover everything but good to note as people read comments.
Full accessibility support
It's all there
Since it's all markdown text it is compatible with pretty much everything
What is screen reader support?
Don't pay just to have your notes sync checkout syncthing
Yeah don't support the app, that will help in the future
