There is no thing known to man that is as funny as the "Dead Parrot Sketch". It is brilliant writing and a hysterical performance by both Cleese and Palin. Just the mention of the sketch can have me laughing like a fool.
I think MP was also the most important Python as he was the glue that kept the group together long enogh to reach immortality (the egos of Terry ang John left free would have blown the group up much earlier - my hunch anyway).
Watching further, was Dick naturally insecure and needed to try to affirm his place as interviewer/American, or was he intimidated by 'posh' English backgrounds/high level comedians?...🤔
Dick was a woefully bad interviewer. I have seen him talk down to many of his guests - the worst examples I can recall off the top of my head are James Baldwin and Grace Slick.
@@jonathanjordan315 Cavett insulted Joni Mitchell saying "my country protects your country." His incorrect knowledge of NORAD and NATO aside, it wasn't appropriate to slap that on a guest where you introduced the conversational topic of her as songwriter and musician.
I have a Python rarity - on the Contractual album cassettes, there's an announcement for a tiresome gap at the end of side A. Not very exciting, but a rarity nonetheless. Is there a way I can send it to you to upload? Otherwise I can just upload it.

the Englishmen dressing up like women ... there was a time when women were not allowed on stage ... think of the plays of Shakespeare where all the 'female' roles would be played by a man ...
Cavett seemed totally unprepared for the interview. HIs wing it and let the guest's personality save the day didn't work with a total introvert like Palin. Very awkward.
Side note, What's a couple of lovely charming chaps!
don't forget to watch Michael Palin's travel shows/videos...they are great to watch !!!!

My guess is that Michael and Terry Gilliam are the most approachable of the six Pythons (expired Pythons excused).
Absolutely correct Sir. I was talking to someone only today who has met them both separately. Unassuming was the word

What’s the better title: Monty Python and the Flying Circus or the other candidate: “Owl-stretching time”? I don’t know, the latter has me laughing 😆
Some of the suggestions that the Python's proposed became titles of individual episodes. I'm glad they were used.
I think the RSPB would have strongly objected! 🙂

Yes, although Gwen denies it.

This is one of Dick's worst interviews. He hardly ever asks a relevant question as to Palin's craft and productions. It's all irrelevant banter.
