I’m literally obsessed with the Wachowski family. From what I’ve seen of the franchise, Sonic has never really HAD a traditional sort of family, just best friends/friends that are basically his siblings. He’s never HAD parents before, but now he does and it’s so wholesome
In the baseball scene, i think the idea was that sonic was running in circles so fast in a desperate atempt to interact with himself (i believe he even tries to hi five himself), you know, so it would feel like he is not playing baseball alone, at least i saw it as a way to show us how bad he felt for being lonely, and how desperate he was for some form of bonding, i find that scene kind of sad actually, if you really look into it.
I think it might be a call back to the sonic movie from 1998-1999, where sonic has nobody who understands him, until he fights metal sonic and since metal sonic has sonic's dna and same speed plus his thoughts, metal was the only one that could understand sonic, that's why when metal turned good at the end, sonic tried to save him
Having just watched this movie recently, the trailer for the sequel got me surprisingly hyped. Robotnik's henchman screaming "YES! HE'S BACK!" really summed up my feelings on the whole thing, and I'm hoping the movie will explore Sonic's world more. Also the gag at the beginning of the movie where Tom tells his wife he got the San Francisco job and she's like "I made a cake to celebrate!" and pulls out a cake that says SAN FRANCISCO SUCKS and is like "oh wrong cake" and then the second cake she made says I NEVER DOUBTED YOU!! actually cracked me up. We love a supportive spouse who covers her bases.
This movie was pretty enjoyable, but literally everything around it was the weirdest rollercoaster that I've experienced in a long time. Initially, I really didn't have any high hopes about it at all, then they changed the design, and it made me at least feel more eager to genuinely watch it, rather than just check it to see how bad it is, but at the time of the redesign, I still thought that it wasn't guaranteed that the movie would be really good just because Sonic looks nice. But with time, I just started to get pretty excited about it. So then yeah, I watched the movie, and it's crazy just how happy I was before even watching it, I haven't felt that excited in a long time. It was just genuine excitement, I already knew the movie was pretty well received too, so I wasn't really worried by that point. And yeah, during the entire movie, my brain just turned off and let me have a good time. Sure, there were definitely jokes that I didn't care for, but in general, I liked it because it was just a pretty enjoyable movie, it wasn't my dream Sonic movie (that's basically the OVA anyway), but it was fine. But I feel like the fact that I got to even see it happen in a nice way, the fact that it was a fine and inoffensive movie already makes a lot of difference. The context of it being a video game movie and all, the Mario movie from 1993 is a pretty famous example of not being great as an adaptation (although I thought it was fine as a kid, but only because I couldn't bear the thought of disliking something related to games I liked back then), and most other game movies follow suit. And to me, just seeing a movie about a character that I grew up with, not being butchered, was pretty special. It helps that I hadn't went to the cinema since years *and* it was also the first time I actually paid for the tickets myself. So coupling all of that, with the fact that the movie still managed to surprise me with little references (few as they were), and that amazing post-credits scene... well, it just made my opinion of this movie waaayy more positive than it would be if I just watched it on TV at random like I did with the Mario and Street Fighter movies as a kid. In short, it's hard to believe how much I'm actually looking forward for a sequel now. I didn't know what I'd think of the movie, but I had great fun watching it. It managed to surprise me in quite a few moments and it was pretty enjoyable on its own, even when it didn't feel much like a Sonic movie. I'm generally prone to complain about unfaithful adaptations of things I like, but I'm surprisingly fine with this movie and I think it's probably about the best a live-action Sonic Hollywood movie can be. Also, since we're here, might as well at least talk about this version of Eggman (I was ready to end the comment, but when I feel like this is something worth talking about). Well, Robotnik. I think it's interesting, it's a very interesting portrayal of the character, there's the aspect of balancing of silly antics with the serious threats, but I found his actual affinity for robots being more of a main trait pretty unique. He doesn't just use them as weapons, he praises robots over humans at every chance he gets, he makes robotic noises and movements some times and while I couldn't possibly imagine the Eggman from the games doing that, in this movie, I think it's pretty interesting. First of all, it's a secret to no one that the modern games don't make Eggman feel really threatning at all, which lessen his villain status. I feel like despite everything, this doesn't really happen in this movie.
11:55 okay honestly before watching this I’d never really given the baseball scene much thought, but then I started thinking about it. And yeah, I was like “isn’t that a bit weird?” But then I realized. Sonic is commonly theorized/speculated to have ADHD, and even if he doesn’t in the movies, he’s still a hyper active teen that’s been isolated for ten years. He can’t vent to anyone, socialize, or even really be seen by anyone. Which is. Really bad for developing kids. Tack that onto him constantly needing to run around, and the baseball scene DOES actually make sense. I’m one of those people that need an outlet when I’m overstimulated/agitated, so I usually flap my hand/punch something/rip shit apart/etc, and that was just Sonic’s version of getting out his aggression. He was sad, and lonely, so so ANGRY, that he just had to do something with his negative emotions, so he defaulted to running, the only thing he could really do ANYWAY, looking back that scene just really speaks to me, so I think its a cool little nod to the frustration people feel when they can’t do anything about their situation
Interesting. I dont think ill see it in theatres, but Ill check it out once it inevitably goes to netflix or something. The most shocking thing to me is the owl mom, which yourvid here is the first time I've heard of her. Sonic had mothers in some canons before, and while I dont think she'll stick in the main canon, it seems like she's supposed to, or at least be explored in sequels. Honestly Sonic having a mother figure in his life might be fascinating to explore.
I know I’m a year late, but about the scene where Sonic feels lonely and starts running: sometimes, you just get a bad feeling stuck inside you and you have to expel that energy. And sometimes, somebody’s way of expelling that energy is through exercise. Of course, what counts as “exercise” to Sonic the Hedgehog is a bit beyond your usual morning jog, but it definitely felt like a very normal response to me. I’ve definitely thrown on a jacket and just started running until I couldn’t run anymore when I’m going through some shit, and that combined with the exhausted walk home helps me kind of… turn myself off and on again, in a sense.
That divorcing thing was because halfway through the film the guy with sonic is technically considered as a terrorist with a WMA by the media, that WMA being sonic.
4:02 Then, just as the dimensions merged, the Old Man Owl from Sonic OVA barrels into the echidna tribe with his rocket! Uh oh... Don't worry, though; Captian LeQuack and McHopper (Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog) come in then using the Freedom Stormer (SatAM). Even if the OVA owl takes up two people's worth of space, they will all get away safely, as Rosie (SatAM) also came with medical supplies; so Longclaw can follow them flying. And that's just the *beginning...*

I didn't like the voice for sonic. Not bad voice acting, definetly well done, but it didn't feel like sonic to me, nor did I feel like the animated character and the voice felt like the same character, it felt dubbed despite the lipsync. I dunno why, I guess it's the fact that this sonic was made to be very much a teenager, combined with the slightly jarring thing with it sounding like he was in another room, but it made me never really connect with the character. I'm still hoping for another movie though, I feel more exited about a sequel then I did about this one. I just hope I can get over the voice thing.
I-it's..Alright I guess. Like, while they did get a lot of things right, I just dislike the fact that Sonic gets transported into the real world again..It seems like such an overused plot line, see the beginning were Sonic ran through Green Hill? THAT'S what the movie should've been about, and they should've also shown characters such as Tails, Knuckles and Amy. Jim Carrey? He was alright as Eggman, but I wish they made his mustache longer and I wish they also made him fatter. One thing I also dislike is the fact that the movies treats Sonic's powers as something that can be stolen..but it can't. Stealing Sonic's speed makes no sense, it's like trying to steal the tallness of a tall person. It's something they were simply born with, period.
I think the implication is more to do with his quills. The way Robotnik uses them mid movie to power his robots, etc. In that sense Sonic himself *is* the target.

But legit their chicken alfredo is a guilty pleasure.

Have you tried their never ending pasta bowl? It never ends
The Sonic living with Tom and Maddie just feels like "This is Sonic. He is our very fast blue son."

Power Rangers was ten times as worse with their over 50 mentions of Krispy Kreme.

That sounds extremely weird, and still makes no sense. But even, then, it's a decent and harmless movie. I like the pacing a lot.
