Hey, great job on the translation and I think it's spot on for the most part. I understand what you did with "調子のってんなコナミ" since that's a little harder to translate, but I think better translation would probably be something like "Konami is being cocky/full of themselves". 調子に乗る means "confident" or "on a roll" but it usually has negative connotation and 調子に乗るとしっぺ返しを喰らう is a common phrase which means you get backlash from being so cocky.
sweetoldetc Yeah, I was a bit unsure about that one - tried to capture the nuance in のってんな specifically, but I might've overdone it? I was going to go with the classic 'being cocky', at first, but wouldn't that be closer to 調子に乗ってるな..?

MGS3: Emulate PS2 version. Quite intensive for identical PS2 visuals
The 2 PSP games: Emulate easy via PPSSPP emulator
MGS4: Own a PS3 or watch TH-cam.
Ground Zeroes and MGSV: Native, great PC ports.
I doubt their efforts will be even good, see what happened with Silent Hill HD collection they done for the last (7th) gen consoles?
The original Team Silent is already gone, they already fucced the franchise up with Western devs adaptations while they don't even the original source codes from the original games to begin with, they outsourced foreign developers to do the HD collection that have no idea how to fixed the bugs that doesn't just come from remaster, but also from the original games as well
Konami managed to destroy every single of their franchises after the original creative teams of these franchises gone

VI =/= IV. Learn your Roman numerals. Or, better yet, when games are numbered in Arabic numerals to begin with, just keep it in Arabic. Only V is numbered in Roman, and that is for symbolic reasons.
After some thought, I think that "dance" at 3:31 is supposed to be Snake's running animation, which you can also see in the Snake Eater 3D loading screen. The way Snake runs might be a meme in Japan.

Pardon my english, but I wonder if all those beautiful fmvs were made from an eventually cancelled XBone/PS4 port of MGS3 that they had to give up on making, because of all the staff they'd lost, and had to turn it all into a pachinko machine just not to waste all the work and money they already spent...
Adequat Name Here Considering that the original MGS3 was meant to be on the (At the time) next-gen PS3 console before they opted for settling with the PS2, that's not surprising.
I'd love to play a next-gen MGS3, but unless someone makes an impossible mod of MGS3 on MGSV, that won't be likely.

Oooor these are not game visuals at all, maybe they phoned up a random animation studio in China, gave them the recording of the PS2 game "Yeah we need you guys to remake this...", gave them the footage of MGSV "to make it look like this.", and so they did.
If that was the case they would be real time. And I highly doubt they were gonna remake MGS3 any time soon when its the least popular one among the general public like George pointed out. Pachiko is a big industry anyway. It doesn't sound infeasible to me that they would put that kind of work into a pachinko game when it makes so much money.
Animation is not nearly as expensive as the assets don't need to BOTH hold up to close up scrutiny like they do in current generation games, nor do they need to be carefully optimised with multiple representations to pump 60 frames per second on commodity hardware. I mean how much footage is it going to contain? 1 hour, maybe much less? Probably half a million well spent. MGS3 remake would clock in at likely at least 5 million, likely double that or more.
But I must say it's not the worst theory. I mean it's possible that they were developing MGS3 remake and then mothballed it and reused some stuff. They likely have a previs pipeline that matches Fox Engine's lighting model within their offline animation software, that's often used to reduce dependency between artistic and technical teams.
I hope to god Kojima puts an easter egg in Death Stranding that pokes fun at the pachislot machine

I didn't see any. I hate them, but now that they're gone...
I think I follow the logic:
1) Pachinko is something big with the elderly
2) Gambling is treated as an indulgence made by those who are desperate or just don't care anymore, pretty much across all cultures (correct me if I'm mistaken).
3) The people engaging in the prolonged gambling marathons these machines require are therefore most likely to be older folks, with problems they treat via gambling, whose kids/grandkids will fall within the target audience of the original MGS3.
4) The MGS3 branding is therefore applied as a means of making Pachislot seem less like an 'old people thing' and more like a means of connecting with kids/grandkids.
It's not just patronizing, it's also shameless, cynical and ethically bankrupt.
I wish there were a way Konami could be fucked hard enough.

This machine is so painful to think about. Imagine sinking all of your Yen into the machine and making it all the way to the end of the story, only to see the original unchanged cutscene at the end of it.
I don't know what Konami is doing. They're almost dead in the eyes of consumers, yet it seems so easy to me to come back from it all. Step 1: Apologize for questionable ethics and missmanaging staff in the past. Step 2: Work on an MGS remake of some sort. Step 2: Let From Software work on a 3D Castlevania. Step 3: Let the Dementia guys finally do their much desired Silent Hill game. Step 4: Contract Platinum for Zone of the Enders. Step 4: Have WayForward do another Contra. Step 5: Release a Suikoden collection. All these things are just so obvious, yet they seem to be doing none of that, almost like they don't want the money.

worth noting, it seems they used almost entirely unmodified high polygonal models from the snake eater 3d dev stage for a few characters. even the promo character renders between both even have the same exact poses (right down to finger positions and camera position) for the pain and the fury.

In regards to the aesthetics of the Pachislot's cut scenes, It's not just the character models that look off from the original designs, but there's also a massive shift away from the original's colour pallet. The colour pallet played a great part in MGS3's visual identity, and I absolutely adored it. The change makes the scenes feel very different, and overall less distinctive. It's the same problem I have with the 3DS version as well. It's why I can't find myself getting all that excited about an MGS3 remake from a presentation standpoint. They've proven that they are unable to retain the original art direction. A shame, seeing as MGS3 has one of my favorite visual styes for a military based game.

Funny you bring up this sort of thing with Japan, with the whole Jontron controversy refreshing with him saying things like how Japan is a "model society", there's an interesting article written by a half-japanese writer for Waypoint talking about this topic. The writer basically details how Japan isn't necessarily rainbow and sunshines as we out west often think, and how a lot of things are so different because over a third, yes, 33%, of the entire country's population is over 60 years old. I'll be honest I think Konami is covering their bases; for the younger arcade people they've got a ton of games plus the E-Amusement pass which tracks not only progress on games but unlocks stuff with more plays and pachislots for the old people.
The cleaning spray is for redeeming at the next door prize redeeming shop, this is an indirect form of gambling.
I feel like the backlash for the Snake Eater pachislot (on both sides of the pacific) was a bit overblown due to the bad timing of its announcement. If this was released back when Kojima was still with the company, nobody in the west would've even heard about this game. It's not like this is the only Konami IP that's been made into a pachisuro/pachinko machine. In fact, they've been making them for almost as long as they've been making arcade and consumer games. Where was the backlash for that MGS Social Ops mobage by Gree that came out years ago?

It all has to do with when you find the machine. Machines are usually kept in parlors for around a year after release.
Maybe they chose MGS 3 because it's a fan favorite among the younger audience (to draw in the ones who played the game) and is the one that has the least amount of backstory required while still telling a compelling story. This takes place before all of the story baggage starts to pile on because it is chronologically the first one. Plus it's the one that tells the most fun story and is pretty self contained. It's honestly the only one I could see being made into pachislot unfortunately.
Remember the first time you entered the caves and didn't even realize that snakes eyes adjusted to the dark slowly.
Don't forget to call in for a save, snake. Oh yeah, lighting a smoke may help you get through the dark of the cave. An, stay away from the colored frogs, okay.

I mean, it makes sense that Pachinko is mostly done by old people. Japan has a much larger population of older people than younger people. I never went in a Pachinko Parlor in Japan because I was told if I was caught in one as a student on a student visa I could be deported. I didn't really feel like taking the chance and gambling doesn't interest me. Hell I don't even like playing arcade games where I put in actual money. I played at arcades twice in Japan and the only reason I even did was because a friend got me to play Pokken against him. The only other things I did was I was told to play a rhythm game, which I was really bad at, even though I knew the song (I think it was a Bleach opening) and the only other time was I was at a multicade machine in Nagoya which had a bunch of classic fighting games and even some releases straight from Steam. The only problem was that for games like Street Fighter's 2D entries the monitor wasn't set up right so it looked awful.
I just found it hard to justify a dollar for a few minutes of entertainment (though for some games, it's more like seconds, Shmups man...). I went to other arcades when I was in Tokyo but I didn't really play much of anything. I think one of my friends pressured me into playing a UFO Catcher (lost, surprise!) but honestly I don't see the point for the majority of it.
