thank you for posting this! i have been looking for it for over 10 years. i first saw it on Bravo Profiles before the great shift to 'reality' tv. The xylophone music is perfect. The surreal is pure truth in the language of dreams.
i was reading on a web page that one painting of hers sold for around 1.5 million dollars. with 1.5 million in this day and age she could have gotten a lot more fixed. i really wish that she was alive now. i would have been best friends with her and i wouldn't have taken her for granted. rest in peace, Mi Amor!
Frida Kahlo used to say herself that she was born in 1910 because this is the year of the Mexican Revolution. She saw herself as part of the Revolution.
I like the video as is (except for maybe the wrong info). I think it's important to understand Frida's culture in order to understand HER. The expectations in a Mexican society affected her life deeply, like the importance of having children for example.
can we all just be individual and unique.. and not idealize those who are dead.. frida was a talent ....but she was normal.. we all need to look inside ourselves to recognize the talent that is within ... I love looking at frida archives .. and history, but feel she was a "normal" human being full of creativity!
Hey everyone. I am doing a presentation on Frida Kahlo. I really like the music in the beginning of this video. Does anyone know where to find this music or what the song is called? Or any other similar music? Please help! Thanks so much! :)
Art doesn't necessarily have to show the beauty of life. Sometimes it expresses pain and all the deep feelings inside a human being, including the most ugly ones.Sure, you don't have to like her paintings, but at least appreciate what she has left behind, through her talent and a lot of work.Saying that her and Picasso painted "ugly"shows how little you understand these people's art. And about her eyebrows, there are people who have more facial hair than others, nothing weird or ugly about that.
It isn't true that her father was Jewish. She maintained throughout her life that he was of Hungarian Jewish ancestry, but according to Wikipedia, one set of researchers have established that his parents were German Lutherans.
I still can't believe they chose Hayek to play Frida.. Not only that, the way they show her it was EXTREMELY DISRESPECTFUL towards her memory. Lastly, the film is FILLED TO THE BRIM with negative MEXICAN STEREOTYPES.. It is NO surprise, Hollywood has been doing this since the film industry began,,,
The biography is a bit wrong. Frida was born in 1907, not 1910. She said that she was born in 1910, during the Mexican revolution, but it is false information.
But what you are saying is that art should only express beauty, and I don't agree. If it were as you say, then all movies would be only about beauty and happiness and music would all be joyful(as these are forms of art as well). There are people who feel the need to express their emotions through art, and that's what Kahlo and Picasso did, with their bad feelings the most. I am not a fan of either (I prefer impressionism) and I want a beautiful future, but not all is pink in this world, you know.
you speak wise words! i often have the feeling that the people ,who are considered to be normal, are handicaped in the way of not being able to understand the true greatness of art. Their minds are just to narrow for that!
no one can deny the importance of frida certainly her reintroduction of the portrait cult and its living significance and its unmistakable cruelty are destined to live in the hearts and minds of others so where are they, where are you looking for her contemporaries if this was important as you say what happened to the others, otherwise you have just turned this wonderful artist into a circus freak and if that was your intent this icon will only result in decoration and placed there is unacceptable
Her paintings are like poems of her life! She was happy with her facial hair. I think it made her feel equal to men.
what an amazing woman - just finished reading her biography by Hayden Herrera and I am moved and empowered - long live Frida
Thank you for putting this video on TH-cam. My children and I are doing a lesson on Frida Kahlo. This video was thorough and kept their interest.
Always loved Frida. that woman was an artist in every sense of the word. She lived art, she was art. One of the best hybrids to have ever done it
Hat Sheshupt koaoakiajjj
This is a wonderful though

The photo of her as a little girl is so cute!
Thanks for sharing this documentary.
Frida painted her heart & soul on canvas.
Frida Kahlo used to say herself that she was born in 1910 because this is the year of the Mexican Revolution. She saw herself as part of the Revolution.
Frida Kahlo was actually born in 1907. She just like to claim that she was born in 1910 at the beginning of the Mexican revolution,
i don't consider her a fighter. i consider her a lover, where love is her strength.
Right up there with Picasso! Most beautiful artistry and work for the Mexican people AND the people of the entire world!!!
I like the video as is (except for maybe the wrong info). I think it's important to understand Frida's culture in order to understand HER. The expectations in a Mexican society affected her life deeply, like the importance of having children for example.
In my Opinion she is the greatest Female Painter/artist in history! and also one of the greatest male or female.
Frida.. Totally ahead of her time...
They got her birth date wrong. It's 1907 not 1910.
+Yakaru1 I saw that too....it was 1907..
Frida claimed she was born in 1910, due to the Mexican war, but yes she was ACTUALLY born in 1907.
Dang she could have seen the Titanic :0
Yakaru1 you’re right, I noticed that also. I do believe she was born 1904 but celebrated it on 1907
an amazing artist who led an extraordinary life... inspirational

This women has inspired me behond belief, and this biography has helped. If she can do it so can I.
''Tragedy is the most ridiculous thing''.
It isn't true that her father was Jewish. She maintained throughout her life that he was of Hungarian Jewish ancestry, but according to Wikipedia, one set of researchers have established that his parents were German Lutherans.
happy birthday frida kahlo!!!!

8:06 I love Flamenco music. My favorite piece to dance for. Anybody know the name of this song?
i love it thanks :) cara xxx
What a face she had. Like no other. In fact, Salma Hayek, despite her best dramatic intentions, looks RIDICULOUS trying to emulate her.
she was a very smart women that did an amazing work in her paintings and went through a lot in her life

@bluefruit2 you can find it like MARIMBA that's traditional mexican music,
@calisunlove she wasn't ugly. -she exaggerated her unibrow and mustache. either way, she was a beautiful strong woman.
I love this...
Her house in Coyacan Mexico is Beautiful

Thank you very much.
Is this the PBS documentary on Frida Kahlo?
Frida Kahlo was born on the year 1907 Not 1910
mucho talento
Wait! I never realized Frida looked so much like her paternal grandmother at least in her own artistic mind.
anyone know what is the name of the music on 8:09 ??? or what kind of instrument is that ?
Onde posso encontrar a biografia legendada ou traduzida?
It is in spanish?
you speak wise words! i often have the feeling that the people ,who are considered to be normal, are handicaped in the way of not being able to understand the true greatness of art. Their minds are just to narrow for that!
whats the songs name in the beginning once the video starts? lmao
This is not frida's biography, just a soft tell of her life.
With her paintings, I experienced Catharsis
Real artista.
I love FRIDA KAHLO
Salma Hayek was excellent in the movie "Frida" thats why I took a liking to wondering what the "real" Frida was all about.
I just did a presentation on her good luck! =p
UNO DE LOS ORGULLOS DE SER MEXICANA
frida was born 1907,video says 1910
she gets her strength from her unibrow
This narrator needs to soften her voice. I can't listen to her harshness any more.
My mom for halloween she's going to be frida
it appears that screen is from the 70s
i realized it was in English like 5 mins later
It scared me
Sheesh! if you're going to tell the story of Frida, TELL IT! Quit focusing so much time on things like exploding papier machet figures
Frida was born before the Titanic sank, cool.
her father looked like Eugenio Derbez..
lmao! !
buena pintora - tremendo talento- que pena!

Yes, sure, make her look just like everybody else. She had access to tweezers, yet chose to flaunt her brows.
