I really hope you are able to assist some of the people you interview. The compassionate tone in your voice certainly shines a steady light on the unfortunate people living unhoused in the Downtown East Side. You are a strong voice for them.
This empathic lady needs a 'home'...God bless her. I hope she can soon experience a safe place to live and just get some sleep and self care. Thank you both for sharing 💚💌
You always find the most interesting people to interview! To get a better understanding of the how's and why's of their story helps to get past the stereotype of "just an addict". You are the Mike McCardell of the Downtown East Side. Really interesting interviews! Thank you and the interviewee also. 😊
Thank you so much for your thoughtful and generous comment!! (but, Mike Cardell ... those are big shoes to fill. I'll do my best 😁) It's great to hear that these interviews are being appreciated and that they can be helpful in any way for those being interviewed and for the viewers. 💗🙏
Most people have interesting backgrounds and a story to tell. Not everyone started using at ten or lived a rough life. People have gone through devastation, family upheaval & ended up here through challenges & now here. Everyone has a story - just like everyone else!
Most people will quite readily speak of their past if you show kindness and empathy & show you aren't judging their choices and lifestyle. You might notice in other interviews that even through the trauma most people will share their story. Their history Maynor may not be the same as yours but most people will explain the circumstances to why they are here - and pay attention, through their pain that not one person gets mad at the interviewer.
Most have no 'home' base to go to. Separated from family and siblings by addiction & shame. One bad injury, soul sucking relationship, job loss, etc will take you down. If you other people have support consider yourself damned lucky! Finding the right support while your suffering through trauma isn't easy!!!
Same thing, it's not as snowy cold as other parts of the country. It's mostly the rain that will be the challenge. Hard to stay warm and dry when you have no place to stay or living in a tent or on the street, no place to keep your stuff safe or keep anything dry and clean.
She’s got such a pure heart and seems very reachable
She has kindness and that is a strong foundation to build upon
Yes, you're right. She was kind, generous, and thoughtful. She had a caring and gentle spirit. Thanks for your thoughtful comment! 💗

this broke my heart, you can tell she carries a lot of remorse. your way of interviewing is very humanizing.

Vancouver's Homelessness situation has to be strongly addressed by Federal Government. No more band-aid solutions!

I hope you pay these people for their interviews and you are not taking advantage of them
Why? So they can blow it on smack, besides, its not like she has anywhere else to be.
I do. And it's often more than they think I should pay or more than they were expecting. Most say they would have done it for less or for nothing.
