The paintings of Mayhew are complex and driven by his study of optics, afterimages, and color contrasts. It is a lifetime of study, and I respect his work. His use of mostly secondary colors and accents of pure primary chroma lend a powerful visual experience. Also, the knowledge of shapes and how they affect the illusion of space is an integral part. His color choices are a derivative of emotion, like what color is love?
Thanks, EdG, for sharing your knowledge. When I think of all of these technical aspects, I will stop painting. So, I take weird color combinations and just try. Only to learn there is more to it. It's way more complex. In case I want to know more, I can try to master it. If not, I learned about a new artist and made a painting. Thanks for dropping by. Albert
Hi ihopetowin, thanks. Yes it's interesting for sure. We all look at the same world but 'see' it differently. We can look at the same landscape and all make a different painting. I love art. Albert
I love your channel. Years ago when I thought I could not paint and that I was not creative my art teacher said look at the world around you especially the tops of buildings for shapes and patterns. I wish I’d had the confidence back then to develop my art skills but now I have your channel thank you very much .
Hi T J, thank you for sharing your story. When you open up and start observing things you can discover that most things are less complicated than it looks. Once you see patterns, or look closely you can find out and learn how it works. Than try to paint it. If it doesn't work, look again and try again. Just enjoy painting now without regrets. Albert
Thank you very much Albert. I wish you and your family all the best. I will follow your videos, your tutorials, enjoy and disseminate it I hope to develop a lot, because I love art and thank you very much.
You are so interesting and inspiring to me. I enjoy your experiences and views. Since March I changed hobbies from art to gardening. I came to adopt a rose tree. I have never liked rose in tree form but now I do. Recently I purposely bought some pansy flowers that were a gaudy color that first caught me eye and then disturbed me. Too bright I thought. I am looking forward to see how I can use them and if I come to like them. I hope to paint again but the garden and the learning about plants takes all my time for now.
Hi Elsa, thanks. I just love your stories about gardening. I don't have time for it. I just let it grow and cut it back if necessary. Wonderful to hear you deliberately try to come to like, or not, the pansy flowers. I think it doesn't matter what others say but I learn about my prejudice everyday. What is mine and what is 'learned'. Interesting journey. Have a lovely day, Albert
Sensacional. Excelente. Não sei nem como expressar, estou aprendendo bastante mesmo com esses sus tutoriais. Muito Obrigado. Lhe sou muito grato. Obrigado. Thank you very mucht!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Albert, another very good video. I find it hard to get perspective right in landscapes but this seems a freer way of painting. I did not know this artist.
Hi Lilita, thanks. A lot of people have problems with perspective in one way or another, me included. That's the reason I like to suggest artists who deal with this subject in a different way. I'm glad you like it. Happy painting, Albert
Wow, what a great demo this was. Somehow with a twist Richard Mayhew’s art reminds of Rothko’s color fields. Your lessons Albert, never cease to resonate with me. Thanks for persevering in delivering them.
Hi Salim, thanks. I see you reference to Rothko but I guess Rothko worked with endless layers of paint where Mayhew probably only used a few. I feel more than I see what you mean. Enjoy your day, Albert
I agree with your take on the difference between Rothko and Mathew’ work. What I feel they have in common is that they both aspire to reveal all things colour. Mayhew comes across as an artist for whom colour is the subject and whatever else he includes in the picture is put in the service of deepening our appreciation of the form of colours and the relationships that are nothing short of infinite. Just what I felt.
Hi Salim, interesting thoughts. I agree with you, I didn't realize it but what you say sounds completely logical. Maybe a funny combination that feelings sound logical, but it's all about color. I learned something new, thanks.
Thank you for introducing me to Richard Mayhew, definitely challenges me To think and view the world in a different way....you did a wonderful job Very inspiring
Hi Erick, thanks. At first his artwork looked so simple, but over the week my ideas evolved and I had trouble painting in his style. A detour of a misty morning brought me closer. A very interesting artist to look into. Happy painting, Albert
Hi Albert. Thank you so much for itnroducing me to Richard Mayhew. I've ordered a book of his paintings, it should arrive in the next few days. I have been wondering how I could give the impression of trees from a short distance away. Mr Mayhew's paintings showed me. I shall have a practice run or two, to see if I can make it work. You introduced me to Mary Heilmann, I bought a wonderful, large format book of her work. Actually, I discovered several artists through your demos. Agnes Martin being one. I produced one or two digital works in similar styles to hers. They left all my freinds completely unmoved, yet I very much like one created. Oh well! Thank you for all the inspiration.
Hi Gordon, thanks for sharing all your endeavors. I'm so happy for you. I get the story about your friends. A lot of people around me don't understand why I make these videos. And it's okay, they do what they like to do. I would love to look over your shoulder to see what you make. Anyway, happy painting, Albert

Thank you so much for your video. I really like how you interprete his work and how you experiment with his style.
Thanks, Dustinwind. It's just interesting to paint i different styles. Enjoy, Albert
Always amazed at how differently the world can appear through the interpretation of different minds.

Amazing..Yours fotos and paint works in tutorial
Thanks Ma Na, his landscapes are amazing. Albert
Maybe you could make an episode about Pierre Soulages.
Hi ReichHop, thanks for suggesting Pierre Soulages. He is already on my list, I will look into it again. Albert
I expressed the same proposal a while ago. Pierre Soulage artwork fascinates me. Looks simple but not so simple.
Thanks Salim. Yes he is known as the horse painter and I find it difficult to paint horses until now... I will practice some more 😁 Bye, Albert
