I read the webtoons some time ago. It’s moral of “don’t judge a book by its cover” is good and all, but when its like 100+ chapter in, it feels like its saying, “BE PARANOID. TRUST NO ONE! EVERYTHING IS TRYING TO HURT YOU! LIFE IS PAIN!”
The comic was like a slice of life highschool drama. Then it became about homeless kids, fighting gangsters etc. Vasco was my favourite character Edit: I forgot about his friend who had a tendency to get into trouble and also tried to kill the mc. He was boring as well

I remember reading the homeless kids arc and thinking, " wow, there is nothing in this comic now that made me like it in the first place." Not saying you have to dislike it based on what I'm saying, but it really did go off the rails for me. There were story arcs before that had outlandish things too. But it never felt so exhausting as that homeless kids arc, which went on for like an eternity

I'm more referring to a select few that have gone from shounen to really deep mystery or vice versa that I've enjoyed a ton/ wish I finished
Bro their friendship is so wholesome at the end of the season, Bosco and Jay both don't have any reason to help the nerds, but they do, so I like them the most
BE WARNED: Lookism while has an amazing start and setup for the story... You must KNOW that this story becomes a straight up gang warfare brawler. At a certain point, the setting moves away from the school and goes straight to brawlfest with gangs and turfs. Take it as you will, but Id like to warn people about this if you decide to read the original source material/comic/webtoon. That said, the growth of Daniel is god damn epic.
I gotta agree with this, the plot has off-railed hard and it’s been a bit off-putting for honestly over a year. Also, a personal gripe is that we haven’t seen Jay for forever

Lookism is good mainly because it shows what a lot people had to endure and is very relatable like bullying,wanting to be someone else, cyber bullying, having a perfect body. Everybody wants to have these thing is which makes good . Can’t wait for season 2
this shouldn’t be taken as some type of ego thing but physically if you are fit any doctor will tell you your mental health gets better not just because how you look but because of the hormones in your body changing. If you just look good you don’t even need to do anything people give you things and do things for you It just happens passively. I believe as sad as this story is it should motivate you to be better. I love this channel, it perfectly sums up a series or movie and makes it feel like I actually watched the whole series/movie even though it's a couple minutes long! I usually watch the stuff I'm interested in but don't have the extra time to binge watch it.
i have like extreme respect for old people and seeing those inhuman people eat and trash the food really made me feel sorry for the grandma and angry at the guys
I saw this review got a good feeling about this and paused it, watched the season in one seating and now I'm back to say this is a fantastic anime. The character development as well as some of the characters are great as well. That ending was.....WHOA BIG TWIST!! Really hope there is a second season!! Thanks for the great review!!!
i like how the "lookism" goes both ways in this show, uglies are regarded as subhuman by the beauties, and the beauties are regarded as manipulative by the uglies. but this begs the question, what about the mids? those who are just average by beauty standards?
No one see’s the mids. Honestly no one really see’s the uglies either. I’m very very very ugly for a girl and I’ve been told so many times even by strangers that no one even noticed I was there. Elevators, party’s, college, my room. I’m just an individual side character greyed out. And it is fun to people watch. Kind of nice to be invisible but the self esteem and self hate is definitely detrimental. I can’t change my face sadly, I can only change my fat content. And if 120 lbs still does nothing for me I don’t know what will.

This was a fun and beautiful story even though the protangonist Yung Sook went through a lot of pain and heartache! I would love to see more episodes of his journey!🥰
I love how when they wear designer clothes they are actually real brands and not some weird made up logo. This story was interesting, I wish there was a little more of a resolution to it though lol
I started the manhwa early this year when I saw Netflix had done an adaptation and I loved the entire idea of it. From the trailer when he fights back his bully(Zack). I had to read that part and it was lovely. It actually made become more consistent in the gym because the understanding that with consistent training and workout, I could actually be that formidable and strong like how Vasco is seen as raw tank. I also started learning judo and boxing. Back then I loved watching the fights because it was still based and realistic and it was fine till Eli started fighting (after that Olly wang arc) . The fights became too stupid. Daniel then lost his personality and innocence, they started "First generation, Pre generation bullshit", lots and lots of fillers that even the OG characters appearance now is like a feature. Their moves don't make sense or have a style anymore, Niggas be shattering walls and rocks like it's Jetpack joyride. It's so annoying to think back to what it used to be. Everyone looks like a member of BTS. I thought the age range was 16 to 24 but basically everyone is 18 yrs old. It's now very delusioned and deals more on hype than the original plot but anyway it's still going strong sooo

He was really into pointing things out like how stalkers can use live streams to get the girls location if they felt the need or how gamer id work. You can tell they really put in some realism and thought into it but down the line, it seemed more interested in hyping up characters and so it lost its meaning.
Looking was sooo good at first. I really liked the first part but once they ditched the school drama setting and went into the hostel arc it went downhill for me. Still it’s pretty good.

I had tough times and I dealt with it by eating, I had difficult circumstances that pushed me into an unhealthy life but I still made choices over years that resulted in the body that I had. There's no lesson in these "loser magically reincarnates/transforms/gains everything they were missing" stories. It's just victim-minded escapism. If you're not happy with who you are, then struggle and fight to change it. And if you're able to achieve it, then find others who want to change but have a hard time and help them.
I have a chubby friend who always gets harassed by assholes, I often challenge them if they only dare to provoke him, Protecting my friends is important to show love and caring.

this really hit me hard. My name is also Daniel and my whole childhood I got oppressed maxing out at 220lb at 14 years old 5'8. In a year I lost 70lb and got absolutely diced. My life is completely different now and it is truly a life changing experience.
This is my favorite WEBTOON ever!! I was so happy finding out it was getting an anime and I was very pleased after watching the season! I do want to warn people tho that although it may seem like it, this is not a typical coming-of-age story with sweet high school stories. This story takes a turn into gang violence and many other scary realities of the world. It’s still really good later on and still keeps the humor to a certain extent, but it’s going to tackle some pretty dark themes as well
As much as looks matter, it's obviously overplayed here. Speaking from personal experience, personality plays a big factor in how people perceive you as well. As a kid growing up I had no self esteem and so people treated me accordingly, despite not being ugly. So many hypotheses and conclusions could be taken from this. For those who can isolate the good stuff from this and nurture it have the best chance to change their fate.
Lookism is good, with it starting out as daniel achieving the good life, to gang wars, some human trafficking, and straight up death. Its insane, plus his og body gets a glow up.

Lookism is great because the side character get alot of character growth, like half of the times the side character became the main mc of the story

Almost reminds me of a South Korean Manhwa called WEAK HERO, where it was an all out Bully Crushing Fighting Saga that puts Mob Psycho 100’s Bullies to shame. 😂

I love WEAK HERO. It may be mostly about fighting but at least the character relationships and their pasts are heavily explored
