Magic Penguin Not frantically watching them per-say, but just refreshing my mind on the general time eras. These videos will NOT do you any good on the AP exam, as they give only very brief summaries of the time eras, and is not what is expected of an APUSH student to know at all!
April Jones Your sense of hysteria is only going to grow if you seriously feel the need to troll someone on the comments of a video of which you should be using to study. I was putting word out there that these videos aren't a super huge help if they are looking for specific evidence, and they should only be used for Just saying, and if you continue this altercation, I hope you enjoy your 3 or lower on the AP exam because you failed to do what was necessary, and instead made snobby comments toward someone whom you don't even know! :)
"People even took up the motto 'Malaria isn't going to catch itself' and moved to Florida!" I don't think a lot of people realize how crappy of a place Florida would be without modern medicine and A/C. Thanks for pointing it out a few times in your videos. Florida was definitely not seen as a paradise in the past.
Well at least we have Walt Disney World, so we have something going for us (But yeah, I live in Jacksonville Florida which is like the crime capital of basically the entire universe)
I used to disdainfullly sniff that I would never be like the people in the comments who watch crash course a night before the exam - never say never kids.
As someone getting ready for the SAT subject test in U.S. history, this is the most enjoyable and profoundly in-depth analysis of American history on TH-cam. I can't help but envy every other U.S. History Student next year who will have a completed set.
For those of you claiming the shock pen is fake, it's actually real. Not like the dramatic electrical charge in the video, but it shocks your hand, and isn't pleasant.
Okay, but nobody is talking about how smoothly he reads the mystery documents. like how does he read them so well I would stutter and tumble over my words
One thing I like about you Mr. Greene, is that you do not let your political beliefs dictate what you are teaching. A lot of the time, historians and teachers let there political beliefs interfere with fact. I can see you are somewhat of a democratic liberal, but you do not let that interfere with your teachings. I highly respect you for that.
I just want to say, thank you John Green for letting my school take notes off of your entertaining Crash Course videos instead of having to listen to a lecture.
Just had to throw this out there.... My 11 year old loves to watch these for homeschool history. After we read a section of the history book we watch a video and he understands it a lot better.
Does anyone else get a feeling that thought cafe and a game developer could get together and make a sweet old-timey economy game? It would definitely be an above view strategy like age of empires or sim city. Preferably with a campign mode narrated by John Green, plz! B)

Born out of wedlock and raised in the West Indies, Hamilton was effectively orphaned at about the age of 11. Recognized for his abilities and talent, he was sponsored by people from his community to go to the North American mainland for his education. He attended King's College (now Columbia University), in New York City. After the American Revolutionary War, Hamilton was elected to the Continental Congress from New York. He resigned to practice law and founded the Bank of New York-source: wiki
I was writing notes and couldn't keep up, so I lowered the speed to 0.5 and now I can't keep up from laughing. He sounds like a really insightful drunk :)
Yes, sorry, long after John's novels are forgotten people will still be reading The Scarlett Letter, so I must assume that his comments are coming from professional jealousy ;)
There is no "I personally think" on this topic. It either is or isn't real. In this case, it isn't. Choosing to believe something is real just because it has some intangible benefit for a group of people you belong to is extremely silly.
Thanks for all of your help! I'm definitely going to get a 4 or a 5 on Wednesday. P.S: Do you think that you guys could make a crash course on economics?
Nobody, including John Green, would disagree that John Green is a feminist. What you're trying to contend is whether or not feminism, or this view on the wage gap in particular, is a good thing.
As do most Crashcourse, SciShow etc, videos. The overwhelming consensus after John and Hank's discussion on ads is that the community wants to support the endeavors of John and Hank (and others, like BrainScoop). Since they don't much like ads, they keep video ads off Vlogbrothers videos because that is, at heart, still just their 6 year conversation. But as their jobs are more and more creating online videos, we the community want to support them with a few seconds of our time.
An episode about the history of maps would be great- I don't have to tell John Green of all people how important maps are but I was recently doing some research on old maps and it's very interesting to see how they change.
Great videos. Haters will come here and post in attempts to detract from your team's work. Forget them, they can't stop the bum rush. Humanity is moving away from their racism, and imperialism, etc and towards more unity, and truth. Keep up the great work.
+Jimmy Curry There's nothing left to imperialize LOL. As soon as we have the technology, watch us freak out and destroy each other over the moon and mars or something.
I love crash course, not only the videos and the very clear detailed explanation and also the people in the comment sections, a great way to get myself off the stupid internet.

My history teacher would play these all the time but at the beginning of the video, he would always force the entire class to respond to the screen with "Hi, John Green."
Woo! Rochester NY! Is it silly I get so excited that my old home town got mentioned on Crash Course? I live in between Rochester and Buffalo now just north of Medina, and I cross the Erie canal all the time! Incidentally, I was born in Rome NY, where the first shovel of dirt was dug for the Erie Canal. Rome is also where Fort Stanwix is. I got excited a few episodes back when you mentioned it too. I grew up learning about how important and historical Rome NY was.
I like Crash Course very much. I have not made a donation on patreon, but I always watch the comercial before the videos so youtube pays them more. I guess that's something.

I was discouraged to watch the full video when you said that the Market Revolution is one of the "least studied" and that there "weren't any fancy wars, or politically charged debates". The Market Revolution is very interesting to me. So to complete watching this episode of the Crash Course, I skipped 0:37 and went to the middle part of video.
Eric Foner said that the discourse on the private realm of freedom reflected the spread of the Market Revolution. In his own words, "getting this private realm of freedom being articulated both getting ahead individually, choosing your own line of work, the rights of free labor competing in the marketplace this is a reflection of the spread of the market revolution".
Yes, Mr. John Green spoke about freedom in the context of the Market Revolution: from 12:14 to 12:24. In contrast to Mr. Foner's quotation, Mr. Green said that many people "recognized that the Market Revolution left them with much less freedom". This could be a debate: whether or not freedom was possible in the Market Revolution?
OMGOSH THIS STUFF REALLY HELPS!!!! Mid term Review and Exam for American history...im not a big fan of history buts its cool at the same time! Thank you CrashCourse! :D

5:00 John says you can't build a canal in stages as it pays for itself. But that's exactly what happened with the Erie Canal -- tolls from traffic on the first portions had basically paid off all the construction costs before the canal officially opened its complete length.

@Joseph Lancon is complexity part of the rubric
i have no way to prove it but im so so sure its gonna be the gilded era
@Joseph Lancon No you won't lol. This isn't AP Lang. There has never been a complexity point on DBQs ever. This test won't change that.
yes.
So many 19th century writers had way too much to say.
Am I the only person who tries to predict which words will be highlighted while reading the mystery document?
Nope

Hell no.
No.I always do.It's so satisfying when I do it completely correct.

He is. His mother taught me freshmen English.
If you get the mystery document right, Stan should be shocked.
John Green coming in so clutch right before my midterms, I've learned more in the past 12 videos than the whole 1st semester of APUSH.
I like how Mr. Greene mentioned how work changed and that jobs provided different kind of work but also limited freedom in making more choices in life
I can't stop watching these...and I should be doing so many things right now.
No real regrets.
