The thing is, the Assassin class is absurdly strong. In most Fate animations they aren't even fully summoned or sometimes have their powers restricted or in some cases the master purposly loses. As long as masters are humans they can find a weakness. They are the class that primarily goes for the weakest link of the Servant/Master relationship. If an assassin is fed enough intel or a master cooperates/augments the assassin to fullfill their mission they achieve strong potential. The merits of the Assassin is they do not require a lot of mana and most of them (even non-Hassan types) have unwavering loyalty to their master because they consider their masters as their clients which is ideal when you want to win. (Yeah, I'm looking at you Diarmuid) Also the best part of summoning an assassin is probably that you have summoned an one so you would not have to worry about an assassin stalkintg you. In the Apocrypha timeline, mages found out that Assassins if used properly could totally curbstomp grail wars and one master did a absolute speedrun finishing off all masters off in 3 days. In the end it became a almost compulsory pre-requiste for mages entering grail wars to hammer in their heads what a Hassan is capable of so they can prevent a fiesta.
