I totally understand the issue with the Gibson Les Paul Junior, I recently got myself a Gibson Les Paul Studio that also have some QC issues on the neck's finish, but I still love the guitar because it sounds and plays like a charm, and it looks very cool, those issues are only noticeable if you look VERY close. So maybe considering this, you could place that Junior at the very very cool spot. Congrats on 1k! I subbed a couple of months ago when I saw your Les Paul Special comparison video. This has become among my favorite guitar review channels. And by that, one of the only three that I watch. You, Johan Segeborn, and Dave Simpson are the best in the business. Great at showing the public you don't need guitars that cost as much as a down payment on a mortgage to get a authentic rock tone and vibe. Cheers! Interesting video and unique. I have never seen anyone summarize and rate the guitars they reviewed before. I have to give this video a very, very cool rating! As far as the Gibson jr. goes I feel it never should have arrived to the customer with the scratches and I personally would rate it UNCOOL! I am not a Gibson basher I own 6 of them. Great channel I look forward to your videos!

Having made money in the music business since 1965, I feel much more comfortable with your presentations! Thank you M8! Most of my guitars have come to me by trades & the like. My first real guitar came from a rich friend, who played bass, so this was a useless extra, was a Fender Olympic White maple fretboard Telecaster!

Hilarious, I love the way you did the Top Gear wall concept, you are the most low-key presenter and I really dig your style. You’re also like me, you really appreciate the quality of the mid to low priced guitar when it is playable and sounds good and give it a lot of credit versus guitars that are four times more expensive but don’t necessarily have four times the value in the playing experience… I jumped on your channel a little while ago and now I’m subscribed, and look at you you’re up to almost 7,500 subs. I would really like to see you do an episode where you get a couple other cats in there may be just a bass player and a drummer and just play instrumental stuff. Doesn’t have to be really long either, check out the JHS channel … Josh really jams on these short instrumental bits they are awesome… you play with a ton of soul, I don’t need to see fireworks in people playing really fast as long as they make the guitar speak like you do.

Keep up the work, and don’t listen to the hate. People will always be upset for no reason whatsoever. But the rest of us appreciate the honest reviews. Also, I’ve never had the issue with the volume knob on a strat but I do always end up hitting the pickup selector when playing, suddenly going to the bridge pickup.
Thanks man that's appreciated! To be honest there's not really been any 'hate' as such and I really don't mind folk disagreeing with me... I guess that's the point of this kind of discussion? The guitar community seems to be full of great supportive people willing to share views and opinions and let's encourage that I say! I have always (mostly) played Gibsons and am used to having nothing in the way of my strumming hand... even on Tele's I keep catching the pickup switch unless it's on the bridge position... just needs a style adjustment it doesn't mean they are a bad design at all, its just me being provocative! Just seeing this today, 3 months after it was posted, but it might be my favorite guitar video of all time. I love the "summary roundup" style of the cool wall. Or is it curl wuhl or cuel woll or call wool... To top it off, I bought a CV Mustang last week based largely on the earlier video you did on that guitar.
Love the idea of this being its own segmnt every six weeks or so! With guests! Personally, I think the Epi Les Paul Special should be on top in the Very Very Cool row.. It's a little P90 powerhouse.

I was on the fence about the Les Paul Junior but after watching your video on it and listening to you roll that volume I'm on board. I'll be waiting to find one used though, I'm near a couple of big guitar player towns in Florida so the used market can be cool at times. Gainesville and Jacksonville Florida. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers are all from this area. Oh and Don Felder, guitarist from the Eagles. He wrote and recorded the guitar parts to Hotel California, along with a bunch of other great tunes. He worked in the local music store back in the day and actually gave Tom Petty bass guitar lessons. Good stuff

I had been considering subscribing after watching a number of your videos recently. But the creaking of your leather jacket tipped me over the edge 😃. Also think the “cuul worl” is a great idea.
I haven't played one yet but ,I think the Coronet should've been on the very very cool wall? Wish you'd had a better experience with the Gibson led Paul junior, on my wish list. Also the shecter , I almost bought the special, in purple finish, p90 In the neck & single coil in the bridge looks awesome. Can't wait for more video's, so glad I found the channel. Even the bullet strat had the Pink Floyd sound, can we imagine what Pink Floyd would have sounded like had David played anything else? It has to go in the cool category. Fully agree with the outcome of the Black Gibson LP Junior. Should have been very cool but with all the issues you've had it deserves to stay in no man's land
Nice way to compare the guitars you have reviewed. I think the Epiphone SG Special should score higher than the LP Spesial because of nicer colour and you can get it in two different colours + there is a worn version too that comes in two colours and has the batwing pickuguard. I own the Gretsch G2210 (in gold) and the Epiphone SG Special (in red) and like them a lot. Your demos helped me decide wether I should get them or not so thanks a lot for that. I also have a Squier Bullet stratocaster and like you don't quite gel with strats, but have to have one in the collection I guess and after a few upgrades I don't feel the need to get a more expensive strat either so I'm happy for now. Keep up the good work!

Thanks again, I used to play a strat upside down so the volume knob wasn't an issue for me and I've been thinking of getting a left-handed one but that's really making me think again. No other reviewers have mentioned that problem, but you can see that knob IS in a stupid place, it's too close. You might've just saved me 600 quid!
Cheers Will!... you'd definitely want to try one out first before you buy, if like me you tend to play over the bridge a lot you'd have to completely re-adjust. I'm sure it can be done with a bit of effort but... well they are just not for me I guess! Maybe stick with the Jimi way it's much cooler anyway...plus you have all the choice it the world!
@@theguitaristas I just succumbed, found a left hand player strat on eBay and thought it was too good a price to miss with a case too. I might get the Hendrix scratchplate and rout out the body a bit, it'll move the pickup away from the knob and maybe...
loving your channel ,as a working class lad i could never afford a Gibson ,i love steve jones of the pistols ,and when Gibson made his tribute guitar in 2008 ,the price was just crazy ,i seen one last week on ebay for £7000.anyways i got a Burny les paul and some pin up girl stickers and made up my own tribute guitar .cost £500.and the Quality is very good ,i love it .love your playing and im sure your channel will grow best of luck .Brian

I missed this vid. Congratulations on the viewers. Sorry don’t like Jaguars. Duo Jet coolest looking guitar, I also love a Goldtop. The Gibson Les Paul Junior is the coolest for me but With the usual Gibson QC issues I’d personally just get the Epi one. They are very tempting at the price.
I've had 2 Gibbys and a few Epiphones and for the price difference I'll pick Epi''s but after playing Harley Benton I would buy one and put them in the Firefly area of quality

I never thought I would be a Grestch lover until I bought an Electromatic 5422. I love the way it sounds. I also like the Gibson Tribute guitars with P-90s. They had a white Tribute SG with P-90s a few years ago that was great. There are a few budget Gibsons the really stand out top me amid Gibson's usual budget misfires: The aforementioned SG was one, the 2003 Melody Maker is another, and the 2014 SGJ.
Hey Josh, that's an interesting list and it may freak you out to hear that I did once own a white 50's tribute SG with P90's and I still own a 2003 Les Paul Melody Maker in yellow and a 2013 SGJ in worn brown... that's either spooky or it means I have way too many guitars! 🤣👍
Having such good memories of Gibson's SG style, I picked up a Harley Benton model, and it failed me miserably. Wound up donating it to a Church Youth group.

I've just rinsed every video on your channel thanks to being stuck in isolation. Your conflicting emotions on Gibsons are very similar to my own. The burden of the love/hate relationship :)

I am so glad we're here to fill in those hours.. you know this content only exists through the necessity of filling the lockdown isolations with something productive I could do on my own, but entertaining (I use that word loosely) others through their own isolation was not something I imagined as I faced the camera. I’m of the opinion that most Gibson buyers today don’t generate their main income from playing music. They are mostly higher income guitar hobbyists. I’ve owned 2 Gibsons in my life, a Les Paul Deluxe back in the 80s and an SG Junior Reissue in the 90s. They were good guitars. But I think today’s Epiphones that are $350 and up are simply better guitars than what those were. So, would I spend $3000 on an ES335 today? No. I’ll buy all of the Epiphones in this video (except for the modern), and have money left over. Great video. I just wish Clarkson, Hammond, and May were involved.
I'm definitely with you on the mustang, mainly because it sums up the ethos of a "student " guitar Personally I'd have put the P90 Epiphones up one, because they are angry little buggers The Gibson Les Paul jr ? No doubt the guitar's lovely, but shameful quality control

I would never ever pay extra for a signature model unless it offered something significantly different from a standard model. The Alex Lifeson signature epiphone aside.
great vid bro! i have a good mate we call "guitar ray" and he dont like strats for the very same reason that you dont lol! myself i wasnt a tele fan til he handed me one of his every weekend and said "here ya go play this one fella"...after about 3 or 4 teles i fell in love with the telecaster and have 5 or 6 variations in my collection...these are squiers/glarry/king/sawtooth/douglas etc... the volume knob on a strat dosent bug me cause i play guitar like a bass..... ray dont like the "ashtray style" bridge on some teles...says it messes with his picking...but i use the edge to rest my thumb on haha!!

@@theguitaristas I don't mind yourselves benefitting at all. But TH-cam make enough as it is. Also going from no or very little adverts to nearly double figures is a lot to contend with. A few's o.k though.
Out of all the LP Style Special P90 guitars I would put the Harley Benton SC Special in Very Cool and Gibson/Epiphone Cool. I love the sound, look and feel of the HB. Also, if you want to upgrade it the Nut, Tuners and Pups are a lot less money than a Gibson. As for the Epi I just don't like the color and feel of it.
How many guitars to you buy a week?! Love your collection of amps. I think that Epiphone is targeted at the shredder market, as are so many modern Fenders - e.g. Jaguars with humbuckers etc. They're not for me. I guess I'm more vintage. You're probably the same.

Hilarious, I love the way you did the Top Gear wall concept, you are the most low-key presenter and I really dig your style. You’re also like me, you really appreciate the quality of the mid to low priced guitar when it is playable and sounds good and give it a lot of credit versus guitars that are four times more expensive but don’t necessarily have four times the value in the playing experience… I jumped on your channel a little while ago and now I’m subscribed, and look at you you’re up to almost 7,500 subs.
I would really like to see you do an episode where you get a couple other cats in there may be just a bass player and a drummer and just play instrumental stuff. Doesn’t have to be really long either, check out the JHS channel … Josh really jams on these short instrumental bits they are awesome… you play with a ton of soul, I don’t need to see fireworks in people playing really fast as long as they make the guitar speak like you do.

Keep up the work, and don’t listen to the hate. People will always be upset for no reason whatsoever. But the rest of us appreciate the honest reviews. Also, I’ve never had the issue with the volume knob on a strat but I do always end up hitting the pickup selector when playing, suddenly going to the bridge pickup.
Thanks man that's appreciated! To be honest there's not really been any 'hate' as such and I really don't mind folk disagreeing with me... I guess that's the point of this kind of discussion? The guitar community seems to be full of great supportive people willing to share views and opinions and let's encourage that I say! I have always (mostly) played Gibsons and am used to having nothing in the way of my strumming hand... even on Tele's I keep catching the pickup switch unless it's on the bridge position... just needs a style adjustment it doesn't mean they are a bad design at all, its just me being provocative! Just seeing this today, 3 months after it was posted, but it might be my favorite guitar video of all time. I love the "summary roundup" style of the cool wall. Or is it curl wuhl or cuel woll or call wool...
To top it off, I bought a CV Mustang last week based largely on the earlier video you did on that guitar.

Very, Very Cool....... !! My top picks are the Sheraton EW Stealth, the Kalamazoo Epiphone 335, and the Epiphone '66 Century.
Love the idea of this being its own segmnt every six weeks or so! With guests! Personally, I think the Epi Les Paul Special should be on top in the Very Very Cool row.. It's a little P90 powerhouse.

I was on the fence about the Les Paul Junior but after watching your video on it and listening to you roll that volume I'm on board. I'll be waiting to find one used though, I'm near a couple of big guitar player towns in Florida so the used market can be cool at times. Gainesville and Jacksonville Florida. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Allman Brothers are all from this area. Oh and Don Felder, guitarist from the Eagles. He wrote and recorded the guitar parts to Hotel California, along with a bunch of other great tunes. He worked in the local music store back in the day and actually gave Tom Petty bass guitar lessons. Good stuff

As far as the Gibson Junior, for me that wonky finish would spoil my experience too if it had been handled the way the vendor you purchased it from handled it. However, I would also be compelled to make it better, and that would be an outstanding platform for a cool refinish. Pelham Blue, anyone?

I haven't played one yet but ,I think the Coronet should've been on the very very cool wall? Wish you'd had a better experience with the Gibson led Paul junior, on my wish list. Also the shecter , I almost bought the special, in purple finish, p90 In the neck & single coil in the bridge looks awesome. Can't wait for more video's, so glad I found the channel. Even the bullet strat had the Pink Floyd sound, can we imagine what Pink Floyd would have sounded like had David played anything else? It has to go in the cool category. Fully agree with the outcome of the Black Gibson LP Junior. Should have been very cool but with all the issues you've had it deserves to stay in no man's land
Nice way to compare the guitars you have reviewed.
I think the Epiphone SG Special should score higher than the LP Spesial because of nicer colour and you can get it in two different colours + there is a worn version too that comes in two colours and has the batwing pickuguard.
I own the Gretsch G2210 (in gold) and the Epiphone SG Special (in red) and like them a lot. Your demos helped me decide wether I should get them or not so thanks a lot for that.
I also have a Squier Bullet stratocaster and like you don't quite gel with strats, but have to have one in the collection I guess and after a few upgrades I don't feel the need to get a more expensive strat either so I'm happy for now.

Thanks again, I used to play a strat upside down so the volume knob wasn't an issue for me and I've been thinking of getting a left-handed one but that's really making me think again. No other reviewers have mentioned that problem, but you can see that knob IS in a stupid place, it's too close. You might've just saved me 600 quid!
Cheers Will!... you'd definitely want to try one out first before you buy, if like me you tend to play over the bridge a lot you'd have to completely re-adjust. I'm sure it can be done with a bit of effort but... well they are just not for me I guess! Maybe stick with the Jimi way it's much cooler anyway...plus you have all the choice it the world!
@@theguitaristas I just succumbed, found a left hand player strat on eBay and thought it was too good a price to miss with a case too. I might get the Hendrix scratchplate and rout out the body a bit, it'll move the pickup away from the knob and maybe...

loving your channel ,as a working class lad i could never afford a Gibson ,i love steve jones of the pistols ,and when Gibson made his tribute guitar in 2008 ,the price was just crazy ,i seen one last week on ebay for £7000.anyways i got a Burny les paul and some pin up girl stickers and made up my own tribute guitar .cost £500.and the Quality is very good ,i love it .love your playing and im sure your channel will grow best of luck .Brian

I missed this vid. Congratulations on the viewers. Sorry don’t like Jaguars. Duo Jet coolest looking guitar, I also love a Goldtop. The Gibson Les Paul Junior is the coolest for me but With the usual Gibson QC issues I’d personally just get the Epi one. They are very tempting at the price.
I've had 2 Gibbys and a few Epiphones and for the price difference I'll pick Epi''s but after playing Harley Benton I would buy one and put them in the Firefly area of quality

I never thought I would be a Grestch lover until I bought an Electromatic 5422. I love the way it sounds. I also like the Gibson Tribute guitars with P-90s. They had a white Tribute SG with P-90s a few years ago that was great. There are a few budget Gibsons the really stand out top me amid Gibson's usual budget misfires: The aforementioned SG was one, the 2003 Melody Maker is another, and the 2014 SGJ.
Hey Josh, that's an interesting list and it may freak you out to hear that I did once own a white 50's tribute SG with P90's and I still own a 2003 Les Paul Melody Maker in yellow and a 2013 SGJ in worn brown... that's either spooky or it means I have way too many guitars! 🤣👍
Having such good memories of Gibson's SG style, I picked up a Harley Benton model, and it failed me miserably. Wound up donating it to a Church Youth group.

I've just rinsed every video on your channel thanks to being stuck in isolation. Your conflicting emotions on Gibsons are very similar to my own. The burden of the love/hate relationship :)

I am so glad we're here to fill in those hours.. you know this content only exists through the necessity of filling the lockdown isolations with something productive I could do on my own, but entertaining (I use that word loosely) others through their own isolation was not something I imagined as I faced the camera. Thanks man, hope you are all good... now if only we could solve our problem with Gibson!
I’m of the opinion that most Gibson buyers today don’t generate their main income from playing music. They are mostly higher income guitar hobbyists. I’ve owned 2 Gibsons in my life, a Les Paul Deluxe back in the 80s and an SG Junior Reissue in the 90s. They were good guitars. But I think today’s Epiphones that are $350 and up are simply better guitars than what those were. So, would I spend $3000 on an ES335 today? No. I’ll buy all of the Epiphones in this video (except for the modern), and have money left over.
Great video. I just wish Clarkson, Hammond, and May were involved.

I would never ever pay extra for a signature model unless it offered something significantly different from a standard model. The Alex Lifeson signature epiphone aside.

i have a good mate we call "guitar ray" and he dont like strats for the very same reason that you dont lol!
myself i wasnt a tele fan til he handed me one of his every weekend and said "here ya go play this one fella"...after about 3 or 4 teles i fell in love with the telecaster and have 5 or 6 variations in my collection...these are squiers/glarry/king/sawtooth/douglas etc...
the volume knob on a strat dosent bug me cause i play guitar like a bass.....
ray dont like the "ashtray style" bridge on some teles...says it messes with his picking...but i use the edge to rest my thumb on haha!!

Out of all the LP Style Special P90 guitars I would put the Harley Benton SC Special in Very Cool and Gibson/Epiphone Cool. I love the sound, look and feel of the HB. Also, if you want to upgrade it the Nut, Tuners and Pups are a lot less money than a Gibson. As for the Epi I just don't like the color and feel of it.

How many guitars to you buy a week?! Love your collection of amps. I think that Epiphone is targeted at the shredder market, as are so many modern Fenders - e.g. Jaguars with humbuckers etc. They're not for me. I guess I'm more vintage. You're probably the same.
Yes I’m no shredder and I’d say most of the guitars I buy and play are not really designed for that… jaguars definitely not a shredder guitar! 😎👍
