I love my device, but the directions are atrocious. Awesome video on all the functions. I spent a whole day figuring out a bunch of this stuff on my own. You absolutely want to buy this with some time to play around with the features and test everything out before a trip/event. I looked at a lot of the 2-way messengers and I decided I don't really need a 2-way messenger, I just need to let important people know this lady is okay when she's out adventuring off-grid.
Used my Spot Gen 4 on a 1000km bush hike in West Australia. Gave my friends and family peace of mind. Best thing I took and I don't hike without one now.

Awesome Brother ,you always teach and help people's life's, your a great Human being I would love to own the Gen 4 Spot, but I just don't have the funds right now, I do carry a old GPS on my wrist, a bought at Aldi's .I where it when I go anywhere, even when I go mushroom hunting, I've got caught around dusk, and everything looked the same, well my old trusty Aldi's GPS found my way back to my Car, I can get lost ,at a blink of a eye.I would not know how to act with a product of that caliber. Great video. I guess it's like the airbags in a car...you pay for them up front whenever you buy a new car, but you hope you never get to actually use them. But it gives you peace of mind knowing they are there just in case.

Not quite a review but its the best I could find on YT. First, the little blurb that comes with the unit is useless except to tell you the web site where to set up an account. There is no info as to what the buttons mean. This is IMPORTANT information for the "button test" before you start out on your trip. It tells you the unit has to be connected to your computer but there is o indication that you have to open the back to find the connection. Second, setting up the account is a PIA. It was telling me my CC on record was going to be used for billing. What? I hadn't even gotten to a screen to input my info. Third, I tried the 800 number for help but waited and waited and waited. Be prepared to be on the phone a long time for assistance. Since the unit was not completely set up I left it at home and went hiking.
We need this in mission 68 exactly what I been looking for only complaint my wife has is I’m at camp alone to much and have zero cell signal this is perfect we need one sent to us fantastic item for sure!!!!!
I bought one and am trying to set it up now. Am a little confused by the additional services - Is the Search & Rescue benefit over and above the standard SOS? Or do we have to pay for the SOS feature separately?
Bought a gen4 SPOT yesterday, have had serious issues with it sending messages and locations, emailed customer support with a VERY DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF WHAT I WAS DEALING WITH and they sent me links on how to use the map software back.............. tried calling them and was placed on a forever hold cycle. ill be making a video soon showing what i have been dealing with.
The Gen3 version has a couple of problems. Would be nice if they have been addressed. First, the check in message sometimes doesn't get sent. Second, tracking often fails when under a canopy such as in a wooded area.
I had some tracking issues when I carried it in my jackets front pocket. I don't know if it was the way it was oriented or not. Has anybody else experienced this?
@@CURRIN1776 cool, me and my wife routinely practice tracking each other using Google maps, I leave her at one spot of park and as soon s my Google maps location is tested to her she tries tracking me, this would be a good alternative to one of us using phone

would not touch it with a barge pole, I have had both the spot X and the others as well as bar in for several adventure trips. Spot don't make any secrets about coverage but let's just say when I needed help the only one that worked for me was the Garmin, it's not worth saving a few bucks get the best which this is not. As for support omg the people at spot and the GPS service are horrible. Say no more.
This is useless it’s cover protecting the sis button failed immediately / broke in two. Made almost of wax!!!! They refused to repair replace or replace the part without a $50 fee!!!! Terrible don’t buy

I don't like it because you have to use a tool to get to the batteries! The Spot Gen 1-3 had D-Rings on the 2 screws!

SOS goes to GEOS. Other buttons you can program to anyone.

It sends to an email address. The check in button sends your gps location.
