I had my gallbladder removed as a part of a a surgery called a Whipples procedure. They had to take and rearrange some of my digestive system. (this was the start of my chronic illness journey, I guess.) I know that they kept my bile duct in so I could at least eat some food again. I now live with all the 'fun' stuff you talked about. But instead of being turned off food, I'm constantly thinking about food. What meals we are going to eat, what will we do if I'm too tired to cook ect. I get panicked when I'm not in control or deciding on a take away. I can't regret the surgery I had, as without it I wouldn't be here. But it did change my life forever. Both my Husband and Best Friend have had their gallbladders out. When my husband had his out, which was emergency surgery, he didn't have the choice. It took him a a few to recover, other than watching out for really high fat foods he is okay now. My best friend had gallstones when she needed hers removed. She wasn't ill before but afterwards had to go on a liquid diet for a time or she would have the worst symptoms. But 6 months ago, her gp or gastro put her onto some daily medication which has made her life so much better. She is back to eating normal again now and doesn't regret it anymore.

    Aimee,
I also had my gall bladder remove and I also have the similar symptoms you talked about. The reason I had my gall bladder removed I would sporadically would experience sharp abdominal pain that would take my breath away. I finally went to the doctor and was told my gallbladder was encrusted with stones that at some point I one of those stones might pass that can create severe pain. I am happy I had it removed before that happened because I witnessed a coworker who had a gallbladder attack in the office and she was in excruciating pain. Now the reason now I experienced abdominal pain and nausea now is because sometimes I have an unhealthy eating habits. When I greasy food, chocolate, dairy products, drink coffee and wine. The foods and beverages I mentioned are detrimental for my well being and I know this is the culprit. You said you eat macaroni and cheese this could be a trigger. Have you tried seeing a dietitian who can recommend a meal plan on what to eat and what to avoid?

Wow Amy, you have a great attitude about your issues but I hate you feel this way so much. I get nausea too sometimes and I can't stand it.

I had my gall bladder out in 2017 because it was causing pain and contained sludge (which would have turned into gall stones). My digestive system has always been messed up because I have IBS and lymphocytic colitis, so I haven’t noticed a change there, but the pain I was having has been gone. My normal day to day routine consists of me running to the bathroom several times a day, but I was JUST diagnosed with SIBO (too much methane). I’m hoping the 10 day double antibiotic will make a dramatic change in my bathroom trips and pant size lol Since the numerous daily bathroom trips have been going on for over 10 years, I’m not actually expecting a change, just hopeful😁

@Amanda A I usually don’t have an issue during surgeries, but I am VERY careful with what I eat the day before surgery. Also, the hospital usually gives instructions for the day/s following up to the surgery as to what and when you are allowed to eat beforehand. In all honesty, I don’t eat much of anything the day before-which I do not medically recommend at all! Hope that helps😁

How are you doing now with your SIBO and if it’s better how did you accomplish that? Any issues with bloating?

That's so sad. I hope things improve with time or that you find some things that help.
I feel like I haven't been the same since having my gallbladder out. Once my gallbladder started to function poorly I didn't digest anything well and it kept hurting. Then after having it out, I now mostly just don't digest fats well, but I just wonder if I'm not breaking down and absorbing my food well without the gallbladder.
I already had digestive issues before, but it's just changed to a different kind. And I just wonder if it contributes to the low energy and stuff. I sometimes wonder whether I should have tried to find a way to heal it before having it taken out, but what's done is done, so hopefully we all find solutions to help us.
Some people without a gallbladder find it helpful to take ox bile or some kind of gallbladder supplement. Some people find it helpful to find ways to increase stomach acid before meals as well. Minerals can help with this. Just sharing in case it helps anyone out there.

I had mine removed in emergency surgery as it was causing pancreatitis. It was the best thing for me. I felt so much better and after they removed it, i could suddenly eat dairy again. 5 or so years later and ive got autoimmune gastritis which is being treated with steroids and on and off pancreatitis after several years of drug induced pancreatitis that went unchecked until the gastritis made me really sick and they ran those labs but im still better than i was with my gallbladder. My pain is also significantly better without it. I feel like for some people its an amazing option and for others it can cause added complications. Everyone is different. For me it was the best choice, my family has a history of awful gallbladder problems and it wasnt going to get better or be treatable.

Okay but like Mac n cheese & ice cream is such a vibe! Could eat that all day everyday!!
Yes, I have gotten my gallbladder out, I did in 2019. I had inflammation and was having attacks. It helped with the sharp attacks of pain and the vomiting. But however, I still struggle with loss of appetite, nausea, pain with eating, early satiety and bloating due to still having two GI conditions :/

I can relate to these stomach issues with a whole bunch of small fiber neuropathy symptoms. I’ve become numb to how upset my stomach gets too lol. I’m on a carnivore diet and I was only able to get rid of the bloating 😒

Aimee, have you been tested for h-pylori? It causes many GI issues and more. It definitely makes my stomach hurt! A year and a half later, I am still trying to cure the infection. Hope you get some resolve!🌻💛

You do you....meaning if Mac and cheese doesn't bother you much than go for it. I have to drink ensure a lot of times because I get so nauseous 😫 and have many GI issues that will make it hard to eat and sometimes for a week or more all I can do is drink ensure and even then I have to nurse 1 bottle for the whole day.....my aunt always keeps me stocked on ensure because she knows how my GI issues are so she helps lol 😆 I get it. Ensure helps me a lot when I'm having issues. Take care and do what helps you most everyone with GI and chronic illnesses are different what helps 1 person ❤ may not help another 😀

Have you been checked for gastro paresis? I had my gallbladder removed and I felt better but I was prone to IBS and sibo until I was diagnosed with gastro paresis and when I treat perfect with diet and medication it lowers my symptoms but when I don’t I feel bloated and full and chronic nausea and fatigue and I have fibromyalgia like you which can cause the vagas nerve to cause the gastro paresis symptoms
