  • What an amazing day social distancing out on the American River. I'm still somewhat new to fly fishing, but I hope you enjoy this video of me catching some sweet trout with some nymphs. Please stay safe during this time of craziness, if you do go fishing, find an isolated location and don't approach anyone! 😔

    Hi Pete! I've been a pro photographer/videographer and Photography professor in Sac area for 40 years and I'd just like to say that your editing is great. Slo mo, different cuts, B-roll, wide, medium and close shots, smooth transitions and more. Makes it very pleasant to watch. I'm a fly fisher as well (mostly small water in the high Sierrs) and have been considering catch and release for trout in the American but now you've inspired me to give it a try.

      Hey ...how was the fishing when you were a kid...I was in two rivers as a kid...one in So.Cal ( San Gabriel) and I'd spend my summers on the Feather...Green Bridge by the Hatchery...The Steelhead were 3 feet long in the 70s!

    To stay out of trouble when fishing the American, check the regulations first. The lower American is an anadromous fishery. You need a Steelhead report card to fish it legally now. Cal DFW has the info on their website. I fished it when I lived there from' 62 to '90. Good luck!

    Love the content man! As a fellow fly fisherman I love seeing quality videos of fishing posted on popular platforms like this.
    I noticed you didn’t wet your hands for a number of the fish you caught. It’d be awesome to see you wet your hands before handling these fish.
    Reason being: Trout are considered very sensitive fish and handling them with dry hands takes off the coat of slime around them. Ultimately it increases their chances dying to skin infections and vulnerable to abrasion. I’m sure you care about the trout population as much as any other fisherman, so make sure to dip your whole hand into the water if you plan to handle a trout.
    With so many people watching, they’re going to mirror you, so emphasizing this would also be really good as well (ie. commenting on this practice while doing so to spread awareness).
    Great video man! Keep posting!

      @PalmCirclePete  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew Vang there isn’t a size regulation on these trout, but you have to make sure they’re hatchery! Can’t keep any wild trout/steelhead in the American. You can identify them as hatchery fish by their cut adipose fin, sometimes it has healed over with a scar. I try to not keep fish this small though. If I’m going to harvest a fish, I shoot for 12+ inches for trout, that’s a regulation in other places.

      I read about this, supposedly at some hatchery in the folsom area there were some huge brown trout that they had when they closed it down or moved operation or something. They ended up releasing the browns into the american supposedly, i saw a picture of someone catching a brown on the american, and the yuba as well, the leading theory on the kienes fly fishing forums for these fish was either one of those fish from that hatchery, or these happen to be big browns that survive getting swept over the dam at folsom lake. You are not crazy for thinking it was a brown on the american river, i assure you, ive seen pictures of them caught in the sac river watersheds
