Thanks brother getting deployed in a week and was just making sure I had done everything I needed to make sure my cars stays good while in storage, much love ! 💙
7:18 You can save your tires and your shocks simultaneously by placing the car on jackstands on spots that keep the shocks compressed. I have an 07 Tahoe and in the rear i put the stands directly on the base of the shocks and the lower control arms in front
Good tips all around, only thing i would add is depending on how long your car is going to be in storage you might want to change the oil before storage and then right again before the first startup. Oil does have a shelf life and if its in storage long enough that oil might be due for a change. Just personally, I change my oil about a month before storage, then park it in early November. Then change the oil again in April before i start it up again.
Nice job. As a trickle charger on my Camry, I tied into the trunk light fixture (it's always hot), and brought a wire up to a $20 Solar panel. The panel can sit on the rear shelf and constantly trickle, or the panel can be brought outside the car and hung in a garage window for long term trickle charging. Gotta love the simplicity of solar for this application!
Just picked up my first summer ride that will be parked soon. This was the most concise, well thought out video I have seen yet. Great job and thanks for sharing. Nice Subie too!
nice video. Another tip, especially for older cars, is have someone pump the brake pedal every couple of weeks if the car isn't going to be driven. The brake pistons will corrode and seize up over time which sucks.
I have an 06 V6 Honda Accord that I’m storing for six months do I have to add the fogging oil? I’m also pulling the car out in January to take it on a trip to Florida. What stuff should I take to get the car ready for that since I’ll be pulling out storage.
FYI - I stored my car under a car cover and the headliner separated from the heat build up. I then did a tarp with moving blankets not realizing that the now rainy environment would cause my clear coat to completely blister where the blankets got wet. Car ports or structures that don't touch the car and allow air are best and cheaper than a clear coat redo...
Thank you for your service. Just an added tip for clarity, if someone drives your car make sure they get it hot and maybe get it up to driving speeds. Just starting it for a few minutes only causes wear and tear.
I have a 17 Wrx as well. Storing it for the NY winter because of all the salt they put down around here. Question about the hand brake thing- it’s manual, so would you recommend just using the wheel chocks on all four wheels? So I doesn’t roll forward or backward, then leave it in gear?
@@niallmackenzie99 You're a GREAT Earthling Nail Mackenzie!!!!!!!! Thank You (for the comment)! Are you Canadian ah ???? BTW, I thought your comment was pretty funny 🤣🤣🤣.
hi. make sure to emphasize taking those exhaust covers off... ppl can forget easily and possibly die from CO poisoning. i would secure it to the car cover somehow so it would be hard to miss
Very useful guide right now considering a lot of us are on lockdown I have ordered some fuel stabiliser. Think I will take the long way to the store when I need to go! Thank you
Nice and helpful vid! I’m actually in this situation, my only concern is I have 93 octane fuel which has contains ethanol, will it be safe still with only fuel stabilizer?
awsome video im leaving for the navy in about 2 weeks but i have to leave my baby in a driveway cuz its my parents house, but are there any other tips for outside storage. i have a little 1993 eg hatchback, she's my dream car and i want to restore her towards the end of my service.
04 M3 in long term storage. Inspection 2 carried out, and only 200 miles since inspection. Hasn’t seen the light of day in 2 years. Tucked away in dry garage, started every few months and ran until normal running temps. Car won’t be on the road for another few years, any further tips? Thanks
i wish i knew all about this before i bought my toyota celica it had been sitting for 3 years an they didn't tell me until i bought it an i gave them the benefit of a doubt because they drove it 60 miles too me i checked the oil it was almost bone dry it had alot of hesitation issues it took multiple fuel treatments to get it running right an im still trying to get all the sludge out of the motor
Not sure if rags are sufficient compared to coarse stainless steel wool. Sure it will scratch your parts but if you have a car that you're not worried about it's appearance than the coarse stainless steel wool would be ideal.
Only use Sta-Bil "Blue" Marine formula because it removes water and works to combat the effects of ethanol. The red formula does not. Storing the wipers lifted off the windshield is excellent--I haven't heard of this one. Also, you can wipe the blades with a heavy coat of Rain-X and let it air dry. As well, you can wipe the blades with lighter coat of Rain-X any time as it does a nice restorative treatment to the blades. I use Rain-X on the exterior of all the windows except the windshield. The reason is it causes the wipers to drag on the windshield and strains the wiper motor. But it won't do this if you just use it on the blades.
Need to make sure the car cover is the right one for keeping indoors as they can trap condensation through humid and damp conditions resulting in potential rust forming.
@@TheGamerOnlineHD Why are you giving this worthless sack of shit any advise? Let this inbred figure out thing on his own. Putting old tires is actually a good idea, though.
As well as cleaning the exterior of the car also consider having the interior valeted. I left my car stored for 6 months and came back to find mold on the steering wheel and dash, along with a few moldy chip left under the passenger seat. Not the sort of welcome back I wanted after a long break.
Clear and concise and nicely presented. Covered all aspects. I have questions about long term care of injectors that don't get used. Do you have any tips on keeping them clean and free of sitting gas/petrol that might separate or go sticky, or is it best to just leave them be?
Starting the car once a week should be ok. Driving it 2x a month should keep it good. Long term storage is months not one week. Car cover should prevent rodents too. No need to clog muffler with car cover. It doesn't necessarily have to be driven at highway speeds if it's driven for several minutes non stop. Ideally highway speed yes. Oil should still heat up to a decent temperature to rid of moisture. Cover could be put on after using car for a few minutes in a non polluted area where there is hardly any traffic.
So if my car is due for an oil change, theres going to be a drive from the dealership to the storage of course. Does that mean I have to change the oil again when storing stage starts? also, what if I change the oil few days before storing it, will I have to change it again since I will be using the car within those days? about to go to my first deployment and i want to make sure my car is good. Thank you!
1 quick comment. Mice rodents etc will chew through the cloth rags. My suggestion is steelwool wrapped in cloth. They may chew the cloth but can't get through the steel
Mice will easily get by those towels. Only packed in steel wool prevents them since they can’t bite thru it. Separately they will still live live in the engine bay if around. I let my cat run around the garage at night. I’m going to have my wife drive my car once a week also but really, your car is not in storage then. If it’s in storage, I don’t think it’s a good idea to do so many cold starts to the engine just to save the tires
Great tips, but lifting the car up to prevent flatspots is not a good idea. All the suspension bushings are tightened when the suspension is under load. Lifting the car up will twist all the bushings and wear them out prematurely, unfortunately..
@@sumodeligiannis4073 worst advice ever, DO NOT just start it up and let it idle all you will do is damage your car... washing the bore... take it for a drive and let it get up to temp for a while. Doesn't need to be done every 2 - 4 days either.
This is how i do it (i keep a lot of cars from my relatives that pay a visit) Give your car a simple wash and dry it out. Remove the battery with the car unlocked and your key in the pocket. Charge up the battery and put it somewhere like a basement where tempreture is constant (18°C) and normal moiscure. If you have one of those car covers put it on top. If possible put the car in a garage but make sure that you dont have mice issues or else gg
On newer cars, completely disconnecting the battery and removing it will reset the car's computer and for some car owners that may be unwanted. Better option is to get a float or trickle charger to keep your battery charged preventing it from dying.

most insurance companies have storage insurance
Cleaning the inside of your car before storage is one of the best ways to prevent rodents as they have nothing to eat/ live off of in the vehicle
Now is the time to own a storage facility and buy some mint petrol cars and hold onto them for a decade.
