- Short piece written for the "Melody From a Motive" challenge at scoreclub.net.
Libraries used:
Cinematic Studio Woodwinds (Flute)
Cinematic Studio Brass (Horn)
Cinesamples CineHarps
Cinematic Studio Strings
Performance Samples Pacific Strings (layering)
I got a "Goldsmith + Horner + Williams meet up with the generation of composers before and write something down" feel.
This is fantastic. I hope we can hear a longer version!
Thank you! That's very kind.
I can listen to bar 9 over and over. Such beauty in that measure alone.
Thank you, Ryen!
It is not a single measure it is about the whole story being told with music
@@raztube90 Sure
Simply beautiful. I am so impressed by the realism you are able to produce with these instruments.
Thank you, Louie!
Brilliant work! So soft and rich.
I stumbled upon this looking at videos of different string libraries but forgot all about that listening to this, because this is simply a beautiful piece of music. My hat is off, sir.

Thank you, Zahari! I’m glad you like it.
I appreciate you composing and playing a short yet beautiful and wonderful song. Could you please provide an explanation of how the mixing was done for each instrument?

Fabulous, so subtle and mysterious❤
Thank you very much!
I've never really heard CSS sound this good by itself. Very impressive!
Thank you!
Sehr schön!
Danke schön, Michael!
Great stuff
Thank you!
Beautiful 😊You achieve a lot here with just a few instruments.
This in divisions for cello or cellos playing both notes ?
Sorry for the late reply! The cellos are divided.
That's a nice little track 😄 You've got good dynamic control over the library, very expressive.
Thank you!
I just bought CSB and CSW yesterday and I‘m stoked to start using them. This piece and it’s excellent programming make me feel great about my purchase - gorgeous!😊
Thank you very much! I'm sure you will not be disappointed with these libraries. They are a true joy to work with.
Feels like i would hear this in Cities Skyline (thats a good thing because that game has really good music)
super good
Thank you!
Court mais très agréable. Pendant une minute j'ai voyagé.
I had to leave another comment because this piece is that great!
Thank you, David! I’m glad you’re enjoying the piece.
Nice! Lot's of Silvestri & Williams vibe here. Can't wait to have Cinematic Studio Percussion come out.
Thank you, Scott! Yeah, I'm also looking very much forward to the percussion library.
@@karlaskmusic I haven't seen any updates on that happening for years now. You find BBC a good match in the mean time? I've been using CinePerc with CSS.
That's beautiful and interesting for studying 🤓😄
Thank you, Stanislav! Glad you’re enjoying the score.
Really really good piece! Love the sound and the composition overall. I was a bit confused by there being too many notes in the flute in bar two and four.
How can we name the second chord bar 3 ?
I'm literally copying your score in my DAW Karl and I'm learning a lot from it. Thanks a lot for sharing ! Beautiful composition , I love it!
a wonderful piece Karl.Amazing.I soon befor to buy the whole CSS range.Still not sure.Because there is black friday and Cinesamples would have an offer too.But when i listen to your piece....then i should may go for CSS !?
Thank you, Pat! You can't go wrong with the CSS range. I like Cinesamples too, but the CSS libraries are what I reach for 90% of the time.
@@karlaskmusic Hi Karl.Thanx a lot .Then i lookiong happy forward to buy the whole range.Bought already the woods. And they are great.Love to listen your songs here.Great musician you are.Best Pat
Very well done, if I didn't know this was composed with sample libraries I would have mistaken this for a real live orchestra
Thank you, Leo!
What software is this? So pretty
Thank you! The mockup was done in Logic Pro using the Cinematic Studio Series libraries. The score was created in Dorico.
When used correctly, Cinematic Studio Series is Very Powerful. I use the same. :)
Thank you, Thomas! I like your mock-ups using them.
It either needs to be transposed down about a fourth or mm. 14-20 need to be played by (maybe) a trumpet with the horn playing a parallel harmony part underneath or score it for flutes and oboes. A high C in horn marked mezzo forte in m. 15 (approached by a leap of a third, no less) is not a comfortable playing range. The high C in horn, concert F, is a just-a-few-times-in-a-career note that you write.
Thanks for your feedback, David! The horn part would be played by a descant horn if it were ever to be performed live.
Very good mock-up ! do you have made a lot's of EQ, Reverb on this track ?
Thank you, Yvan! I’ve used two hall reverbs on this track to glue the sections together, but not that much since the Cinematic Studio Series were all recorded in the same room. There’s quite a bit of EQ in the strings, particularly wide cuts in the low-mid range.
@@karlaskmusic thank you for your reply ! - agree for cutting the low mid range...
In reality, that solo French horn part going all the way up to a high c (transposed) in bar 15 would sound terribly pinched and way too exposed. The line would be much better suited in terms of orchestration being given to another instrument (flugelhorn?) altogether, or perhaps playing bars 10-13 on French horn as indicated and then having a trumpet (or perhaps a coronet would be a touch mellower?) seamlessly take over bars 14-17...
Agreed, a standard French horn would not be comfortable in that range. My intention was for this to be performed by a descant horn.
