As an old fan of Beast just like you, I also really miss their old dance ballad songs like '12:30' and 'Ribbon', or powerful dance songs like 'Good Luck' and 'Fiction'. However, the K-pop trend has changed rapidly within the last decade, and if they were stuck in their old selves, they wouldn't have survived until now. What I love most about them are their enthusiasm and love towards their music; I can literally feel their happiness whenever I watch them on stage. I think they're really brave for trying new things every time. Even if the downfall comes, as you mentioned, I would gladly stick with them and support them until they hit rock bottom. We are B2uty & Light. We might not support them as much now but they were the B2ST. Their music guided us during our teenage years, we owe them alot for their good music. We are just fan of good quality musicians.

Ehh yeah I can agree with some of this-- their sound now is completely different from both BEAST and Highlight as OT5, and I think it's.. unrealistic to expect the same? I think Junhyung was honestly super impressive with the initial transition, and he really has talent for songwriting and making things sound.. unique and chic and have this edgy / trendy depth to it? His range was impressive too (i.e. even Gikwang's solo What You Like being an amazing fit for him; DCYE was also solid despite YJH not being involved). And they were probably one of the few groups that existed with an actual distinct sound (and versatility) lol, even though bands without were still successful Highlight's sound now is a lot more.. bright, positive, and pop-y, so it's lost some of the edge. It's def a very family friendly vibe, if that makes sense lol. But I honestly think it's still a transitional period for them, even if it's long. I can now kinda see their new sound forming now, and while it's not my default fave, I still think it's good, fun pop music and I'm optimistic for the future! Ex: Switch On is a solid track, but they said it was a super experimental one for them-- had never done it before. To me that track has the very positive / wholesome vibes that's their new trademark, but with some additional topical edge. I almost would've wanted that to be their title track instead. But this is an example of something being a good fit for them but them feeling weird about it. I think itll take time but def see the promise! I do think they need someone at their company (or Gikwang) to step in more and form a kind of cohesive identity for them that's a littttle more unique / heavy musically (less of a light / normie vibe, which I think is where you guys are getting your takes from), and that could make a huge difference.
Yes no matter what, we will still support them. When they were at their prime, they were on par with Bigbang. Especially with Hyunseung actually was so close to debuting with Bigbang. What you said is true, we need Gikwang to step in like how he did with “So Hot” “History” “ONE” & BTOB’s “WHY” that was composed/lyrics by him and it shows alot of the unique quality. Other than Junhyung, Gikwang has the most experienced in songwriting and we need him to really step in. An insightful vid. Make me think about things. At some point, I agree with what you guys said about their change in style. It is such a pity that they had to go to that direction because of the rearrangement of members and losing their one and only rapper. However, saying Highlight shouldve "called it quits" after JH left sounded mean to me, like discrediting the group's current efforts to release songs. FICTION AND FACT, an album you said you loved and the one that had their most popular song FICTION and older albums are composed by other people, so I do not think JH did not necessarily brought popularity to the grp thru music but Good Life team instead solidified the image of the group more. Though ICYMI, they also had fun songs just like BODY way before 2016 (Japan discography is the proof of this, 'Guess Who?', 'Day and Night' albums) and though it sounds different, they pulled it off gracefully. Additionally, active members are very vocal about wanting to continue singing for a while as a group and despite of the inevitable changes, I do want to reiterate their efforts of continuing to survive in the ever changing kpop industry which is hard to keep up with after hallyu globalization. If you are saying like Highlight can never get to their peak in music again, they will sound weird to you until in the future, I swear. Unfortunately, unlike everyone wishes, HL as a group wants to be diverse in genres and challenge themselves. Not everyone will like it but as professionals they are open to new learnings, discoveries and they are not afraid of it. However, you can always go back to listening to Beast since it's there forever. We can't get new songs with their "Beast" trademark sound, but at least it's there. If you are in denial that you're dropping HL's discography since you supported Beast from the start, it's okay to quit listening to HL if it does not fit your standard. HL will continue to find their new style without a rapper. Very thankful they prioritize group activities because IT IS RARE for a 2nd gen group to be very active and is as consistent as them. Yeah. I kinda agree with the "touch" thing. And like you said with yoseop's solo, i have seen some of his fans really wanting him to push his solo career more (with his solo debut with caffeine and latest chocolate box album in 2021, he literally has only 3 albums which is so little in comparison with his 15 yr tenure). I understand his love for his group, but yeah, hopefully he'll be able to prioritize himself more. I gotta say tho, i loove his indie-song writing style, but i do hope he tries working with other composers and not mainly produce with current one 😅.

Even if he made his debut with Big Bang, I think he would be the way now he is (with he left the group and focus on his solo career). Because he liked to show himself off rather than be in a group. That's not to say it's bad, of course. It simply doesn't fit in when I think about the rest of the members who should be in the group (thinking of highlights, now in their 16th year). So ... no matter how much fans loved Hyun-seung, it was something that had to happen one day. (I still don't think it's good to ignore fans and make a fuss about him leaving his group.) And Junhyung. I am a Korean fan, I may have a different position from foreign fans. However, I think the story that Junhyung created the atmosphere of BEAST and HIGHLIGHT ended in 2014. I've been his longtime fan (since they debuted, he's been my favorite. And until that happened), but I think so. At least the heyday of BEAST that Koreans remember is until 2012. Fiction and Beautiful Night. And since then, Junhyung has been producing, but other than Good Luck and 12:30, not many songs have done well. Of course, they performed well in Plz don't sad, but it followed the atmosphere of the time. Because they couldn't keep up with the KPOP market (like Can be Better), their music performance dropped sharply. And they didn't perform well until they joined the military. It's very different from SHINee, for example, continuing to challenge new genres and producing good music performances. Since Gikwang took the helm, they have been taking on new challenges over and over again. This is because they have to survive in the rapidly changing music world. It must be done in order to be a group member by the fans' side for a long time. We love K-Drama to nusic and variety shows. I agree with whatever you said, Junhyung really created the atmosphere of BEAST & HIGHLIGHT. Even from his recent solo comeback, for ''POST IT'' we can really hear the each members parts in it. Which I am sure that it was supposed to be a HIGHLIGHT song. ''Their music performance dropped sharply.'' I couldn't agree more. Thats the saddest, I wished they would do what Bigbang did with Still Life. Ended it on the high note, it will be better than watching them gradually falling. Yoseop has a big potential in solo but that was when he was with Junhyung producing Caffeine. For now i am not too sure if he can keep up with the KPOP market. But what I feel can be saved is if they continue to go full on Ballads. Try to target the OST drama song direction, I feel they can still be hitting charts with their voices in othat direction. However, the music record for YEY or ribbon, and calling you and etc was sluggish compared to before. It means that the public didn't feel the same appeal to BEAST or HIGHLIGHT's music as before, and Junhyung's way of maintaining the song's atmosphere did not work in the KPOP world, which is based on popularity(at least in Korea). That's why I think Gikwang and the other members are challenging a lot of songs with a new atmosphere. They have no choice but to make money to invest in their next activities.

@@DKSKSometimes I miss the days when there were six members. And Junhyung, a member I loved for 10 years. There was something about the atmosphere of six people that I couldn't feel now. I think the old fans of Beast/Highlight would know, and I think you guys said that because you know that. But now I'm only going to support the four members. They are the members who worked harder than anyone to erase the bad images they left, and all four of them as a group tried to stand by the fans together.
Other than body, other songs from this album i would like to recommend are feel your love and in my head. Im sure you will feel beast vibes in that ❤
fellow sgporean b2uty here! honestly yes, the b2st sound that we're familiar with is not there anymore but for me personally i still love them as highlight with these 4, bcs as a multifandom i see how all grps do venture out to explore different sounds / genres as they grow^^ even for groups that still stay w the full members since debut, their music change and i love to see it
it showcases growth & diversity in their music style and proves that they can pull off various concepts which is so cool
i do admit that when watching highlight perform b2st songs like "on rainy days" or "fiction" it feels so so empty since they left junhyung's part out. but still, i love that they're staying as a grp even if it's just the 4 of them. maybe it's also bcs i watch their variety shows / clips of them and it's nice to see that they still have this bond with each other and the passion to continue making music together :) (for junhyung, i haven't kept up w him bcs of the scandal..)
edit: if you watch btob too you'll know their music changed a lot esp when their debut songs give me so much of b2st vibes but they gradually turn to the ballad side which i thought i wasn't a fan of but it grew on me lmaoo

highlight are always trying out new things these days and yeah, sometimes it doesnt sound like their BEAST sound anymore. but again, lets remember that their last song as beast was 2016, which is already 8 years ago. still believe they continue to put out quality stuff even though not every song is what i like (still prefer their dance ballad stuff).

Yes their dance ballad songs is chef kiss. other than them, for dance ballad is probably only BTOB who are closest to their sound & still doing it even after Ilhoon left.

This reaction was too cruel to come from "fans". Yes, Junhyung's departure was a great loss, we have suffered enough without having to see them go their separate ways, their songs are not bad. Being a fan of a group is not following a single style, the world changes, people change. If "Highlight/Junhyung/Hyunseung" are happy, I am happy ✨️
