    Not gonna lie im kind of disappointed in the Solar and Lunar Dragons they have been changed a lot since their last appearence(mostly the Lunar Dragon) the Lunar Dragons personality, sanity, powers, and appearence used to change according to the phase of the moon. The Solar Dragons all suffer from wanderlust and explore for most of their lives and disguise themselves as humanoids for most of that time only making a lair when they are Ancient at which point like a dying star they are the smallest they have ever been(but like any other Dragon they are still at their most powerful then) also it was rare for them to have a hoard due to this wanderlust. I get why they changed the Lunar Dragon because if they didnt they would have needed to make 8-12 statblocks for it but it feels like they changed the Solar Dragon just to change it

      you are defiantly hitting on some topics that I too am disappointed about with the dragons. I can recall a point when monsters/creatures had multiples of paragraphs about them...

    I notice that you don't have to look away from the camera very often to consult the book or your notes. It shows that you read the book thoroughly before filming. Good work.
    I look at my notes too much in my videos, when I operate from notes.

      (notes are off camera behind it - shhhhhh don't tell anyone)

    If I have to hand something to them, at least their somewhat good parents

    Spelljamer can be the answer we still have a lunar (or phase) dragon to work with.
    That aside, yes, the goddess Selûne may have a problem with someone trying to turn their domain (Selûne is the moon goddess in dnd) into their phylactery.

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      possibly.. but then again... the lunar dragon could just as easily be Selune's "pet".

    Your Spelljammer content is the best on the platform! You do such a great job.
    Any advice or words of wisdom for a fledgling D&D channel like mine? I'd love to be like you!

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haha I wouldn't say that mine is the best on here, but I DO appreciate the kind words!
      There are quite a few others that have TOP SHELF videos, FryMinis is crushing it, Indestructoboy always has some defining thoughts in his videos, Wintry D&D has excellent commentary of deep subjects. I'd love to list everyone, but as for any words of wisdom: just have fun and make vids (on in your case streams) that YOU enjoy.

    Lunar dragon (and Solar) sound like interesting opponents.
    At least the Lunar dragon has a lair you might be able to loot, though.

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, I'm still trying to wrap my head around how a lower level party could possibly loot a solar dragon's lair..

    In a Lunar Dragon lair I expect to find all the lost things of Earth

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      there was a movie I watched, The Dark Side of the Moon, where all the things that disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle ended up on the dark side of the moon.. that might fit right in with the lunar dragon..

    • @Flymerick
      @Flymerick 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gamemasters yeah! The concept of lost things ending up on the Moon comes from the Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto, so it goes a long way in the history of fantasy imaginary!

  • @stuartdoig3418
    @stuartdoig3418 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I never played other editions, so I don't have any attachment to previous lore. I do wish that they would give different abilities based off of the different cycles of the moon, but I understand that is generally more complex than the rest of the 5e statblocks.

    • @gamemasters
      @gamemasters  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah, I'm certainly going to be homebrewing that aspect. The question is.. and this is where the complication comes in... from who's perspective would it have the abilities? From someone on a nearby planet or on a ship that sees the moon from a different angle? ORRR... would the dragon have abilities shifting based on how much moonlight was touching it.. suddenly it becomes a nightmare to keep up with what it can do lol.

    • @stuartdoig3418
      @stuartdoig3418 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gamemasters The perspective is tough to compensate for, but I think there is a solution. If you have a tidally locked moon then the region the dragons live in determines the amount of moonlight that is reflected off of their habitat and therefore determines their "phase". That could be a basis for a dragon society where dragons of different status gain access to the more desirable locations on the moon which have either more or less reflected light. It would only be dragons that move across the moon in vast distances or live off of their home moon that would experience the effects of changing abilities with the changing phases of the moon. Assuming a large enough moon, this would prevent the headache of their changing abilities but still give both perspectives fitting abilities.

    Also the fact the dragon can't speak anything other than draconic doesn't really help it, as if you have something that's hostile, kind of stupid and impossible to communicate too, it's not gonna end well

      when you are out to eat everything that moves, you don't have to have a lot of smarts (kinda how I'd run it anyways).
