Great review, cheers! I've been listening to these guys since 2010 and it has been wonderful to watch them grow and get the recognition they deserve. Yet at the same time it has been heartbreaking go along with the journey.
I remember discovering these guys over a decade ago when I was a teenager. If you like them, check out Devil & The Almighty Blues as well as Villagers Of Ioannina City.
I like the new STS album. It still had the grumpy doomy stuff, and it's not any notable departure. But there are some impressive bangers, and strings that are spooky and bright. Also. They're doing some different shading of Mikko's vocals. (He’s an impressive artist, clean and growl vocals both beautiful and brutal.)Some on this album are shredded across a broader spectrum, others notably pitched higher, moving a bit towards Travis (Cattle Decap) range. The guitars and beats have a new layer, with frequent references to 80's hair metal, even new wave tones here and there. It's an interesting nod to what was likely influential to them, and it adds a rich, unexpected layer to the jams. Production is gorgeous. I agree the instrumental tracks are not my favorite. Excited to catch their US tour. 🤘🏼
I like swallow the sun. I actually wasn't going to buy this album this time around but since they're coming back for a US tour I think I'll buy the new album next week when they come back to my city. I also read an interview where Juha said how swallow the sun isn't doom but a progressive metal band, I thought that was interesting.
Yeah, just had a bit of a chat with Mikko after my review and he said they're now heading to US for a tour. I wished them all the best. I hope you'll like their gig and this album.
@@RautaMetal hell yeah bro. This'll be my 4th time seeing them live. I'll buy the album directly from them next week. The two singles I heard so far are pretty good, i didn't think they could top their last album which is another emotional album but these guys are very talented and consistent.
Very nice. Even I have seen them max 3 times I think and I live in Finland. Always a good idea to buy directly from the band. If you talk to the guys, send my greetings to Mikko and/or Juha. :)
First of all, loving your shirt. I was a real late bloomer with these guys, mainly because I thought they were the typical female-audience oriented mellower doom death band. I agree with everything you said about them. They have fantastic song writing and the despair is real. I remember listening to their previous one in my sunny days at the beach here in Greece, and feeling utterly devastated, a testament to how their music can affect one. I've ordered the vinyl before even listening, and after 2 listens on mp3, I'm a bit ambivalent, I think this one will be a grower for me. I can safely say though that the "Fight of your life" will plague the following months to come...

This is a album long awaited! Loving the atmosphere.

I wish I had the time all the bands / releases I am suggested to check out, but not with my review pile :)
Gonna check this one out.

Cheers for the comment. And yes, I understand well why your original idea was exactly that.
Valar dohaeris! They're really not my cup of tea but I'll give this one a chance.
I thought the same!
Seeing them tomorrow
Bought their new cd at the show
Great!
Swallow the sun ❤❤
I am not in this band there all about heaviness and death metal growls doom metal is all about slow riffs and vocals full of despair
Sorry. Skipping this one. You should check out the U.S based Daylight Dies.
I will check it should it come this way.
