Layne arranged this. Synchronized riffing is massively difficult. He warned everyone to practice runs. Geoff said that bass singers don't do runs. Layne likes to push Geoff....
J None with those high notes is singing bass in the Navy. They all have crazy ranges.
(I appreciate your singing along.)
This was the first thing I saw of theirs, after seeing the original from Chris Stapleton. I was blown away by their harmonies and smooth voices. And it still hits me the same way today. Speaking of range, J's high notes in this are in total contrast to his singing bass with the navy's Sea Chanters. :)
One of my favourite VoicePlay covers. Riffs in close harmony is so beautiful. J None looked like he had so much fun hitting those high notes.
A few years ago, they did the Partworks series. They took requests from their fans, which piece of music and which members should sing it. Some of them have only two members singing.
Great reaction!
My second favorite of the series is Death of a Bachelor - Geoff and Earl only!
Geoff Castellucci is releasing his new video today, May 10th at noon est.. It is a fantastic oldie but goodie very updated with him and his clones.
You Don't Mess Around With Jim.
LOVE the bts for this one! Go, have a look... 🎉😂❤
I’m familiar with this song as I am a huge Cris Stapleton fan. This is my first time experiencing VoicePlay and I am in love! The musical gymnastics of the harmonies is outstanding! I will definitely be checking them out. Oh by the way, great review 😂😂
Talking about ranges... did you hear how low Eli's talking voice is at the end? He can actually also stand in for bass - just like J! The harmonies were beautiful. Thank you for reacting to this one! The partwork series is amazing. I love their cover if Kiss (Prince) also from this time.
🌹🕊
I love this song!💜💜💜
Here for you, Zack, and the al-go!
Perfect description of Chris's great version.
When I listen to these guys, locking at the time for this release, April 2019, I can hear a lot of development i their singing skills. Layne wanted Geoff to practice runs for this one and he did. Today the practice shows even more, 0.34 sec. in, in "Sleeping in the cold below", February 2024. When you hear that, all of us can know that if you are dedicated enough you can reach and develop and be better. Thank you for a nice and kind reaction, two other skills that the world can make use of right know.
Love this cover. Thanks for sharing
🔥🔥🔥
It's a lovely bar. Reminds me of my dad's bar in our house. He had been a bartender at the bar on Cocoa Beach where the astronauts went to drink. Dad got offered a job with Lockheed on the Cape, but couldn't quite give up his bartending. That took over in the house for some of his favored patrons, some of my parents friends, my band director from jr high and sr high.
In general, the beatboxing was kept simpler for the Partworks series since they provided sheet music so other groups could sing their arrangements. (Like most groups have basses like Geoff or high tenors like Earl.)
For the patrons, Eli and Layne sampled each of the drinks mentioned in the song. Opinions were mixed, but Layne was pouring all his leftovers into one glass. In the end he tried that and liked it. Eli was skeptical, but when he finally tried it he said it wasn’t bad.
just 5 guys making beautiful music ❤
This video needs a disclaimer: "Warning! Curves ahead!"💙
Not sure if you've checked out this video yet, but may I suggest that you react to Andie Case's rendition of Fireflies, by Owl City? It's an acoustic cover of one of my favorite songs that I did during my choir years as a kid. Great reaction man! Much love your way😁💛❤💖💕💝💜
I see you haven’t done their Bridge Over Troubled Waters yet - Simon and Garfunkel
Also Daddy Sang Bass - Johnny Cash
Those are two of my favorites.
My personal favorite cover: Tennessee Whiskey - Chris Stapleton ( Cover Laurence Doire version française )
I appreciate your way of doing the analysis of songs. Some reactors talk over the singing, which is really annoying. You stop at certain points and give insightful points. You also talk about all singers in the group, not just Geoff (despite he's being excellent).
Check out this one too: Tennessee Whiskey - Ger O Donnell Music.
What was J.None's first official song as a member of Voiceplay?
Did they compete with Home Free on that show?
They both competed in the Sing Off season four but I’m not sure if they went head to head. They toured together and became friends. They did do their Zombie/Hillbilly mashup after.
The best is when they hit that crazy riff in 5 part harmony. Still one of my fave VoicePlay moments.
