    !! NOTE: Please TURN OFF "Stable Volume" on the player's setting, otherwise it will increase the noise floor by a lot, and make this comparison useless.

    thanks for the video comparison to show the sounds being captured as well as the izotope details, very helpful. currently I'm awaiting delivery for some clippy mics but I've been using audio technical bp4025 for my sound gatherings. like others mentioned, I too am patiently waiting for some LOM mics to become available again.

    Hi there! New subscriber and just wanted to say that I really enjoyed the comparisons of both mics out in the field. I built a pair of 272's and also have a pair of Sonorous Objects SO.1 (also 272's) and they are great to use in a "tree hugger" configuration or when I want to keep my pack light. Really appreciate your work in showing us this comparison and also the great video work. Take care and thanks again!

    I have the LOM MicroUsi and the Clippy and am generally pleased with the LOM after using it for a good year now but the Clippy from day one was really unusable because of noise/static/popping. Not sure if I simply got a defective mic or not since no one else seems to have mentioned anything like that in the other videos I have seen on TH-cam. I will be taking it out again to test again and see if it's still problematic or maybe I was doing something wrong. I have the LOM Basic Ucho and the Immersive Soundscape Earsight Nano on order and hope to get them soon so I can do some comparisons on all of them. Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I think there are some very good options for budget ambient recording microphones out there and it's good to see people using them and passing on their experiences.

    Nice test and great video. They do often sound great together. I have the Usi Pro's and really enjoy them, but they are super sensitive as you said. They're so sensitive they can often be very frustrating, because they pick up so much background noise that you don't want. They always pick up sounds way off in the background that I can't even hear.

    • @Oblium
      @Oblium  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Heheh yes that's what they are good for. If you want to isolate the sound source I'd suggest a supercardioid pattern, or a contact mic depending on the type of source. I always bring with me a Sennheiser e614, it can isolate the sound very well like a shotgun mic, at a much smaller and portable size: amzn.to/3R5Lvs8

    • @zerobject
      @zerobject 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Oblium How significant is the difference between cardioids and supercardioids at outdoor environments, where background (city) noise is a problem? I tried the cardioids, but they capture the background no matter the mic direction, technique, etc. I guess, the only way to isolate from noise is to get as far as possible from any noise sources. So, it's a free solution, but been thinking about supercardiods too.

    Very nice comparison, thanks ! Surprisingly the Clippy are less noisy then the LOM , But i have the impression that the LOM have a better definition in the low and low-mid. Their Sensitivity seem to be the same to me

      The Clippy uses a really good, but big for a lav, electret capsule. The Primo capsules in the omni Clippy mics have very low self noise. That's not really something that's doable with a smaller capsule which is why many pricy lavs still have 22-27 dB self noise.

  • @chrisdooks5903
    @chrisdooks5903 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I have both, plus the 4025 and Usi Pros and Lom basic uchos. I sold my 272s as Usi Pros outperform them and last longer because modular design - but the clippy's are excellent. Also if you can solder you can get the capsules and parts for about 20 euros per mic I believe. Clippy are also doing a zoom f3 pluggable version - basic uchos are possibly too sensitive for everyday use...

    • @rossaudio9780
      @rossaudio9780 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, wondering what you think is the best mic out of the Lom, clippy and 4025. I know theres going to be a difference between XY and AB Omni but in your opinon whats best ? what do you reach for? eventually i want an AB and XY setup. Thank you!

    • @chrisdooks5903
      @chrisdooks5903 ปีที่แล้ว

      the 4025 has very good separation, maybe too much even, the clippys are sharper than the loms and need more eq. I think the loms are better than the clippy. I tend to use two basic uchos in a rush plugged in at right angles to a zoom f3 as a go-to but for easy stereo field work the 4025 is great - but large when you factor in wind protection.

    You should have tested the LOM Uši Pro microphones which I think use the same capsules as the Clippy's (Primo EM272)... The capsules used by the mikroUši Pro are smaller, and are the Primo EM258 I believe... that's normal that there are so many differences in sound

    • @Oblium
      @Oblium  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that's correct about the capsules :) this comparison is with the mikroUsi though, since the clippy 172/272 has been around and loved since a while for small portable rigs, but not many people know about them yet. I thought they are a good alternative to the mikroUsi, regardless of the different capsule, but more on a portable prospective.

      Speaking about the Micbooster ones, the handling noise is very low compared to, let's say, sdc condenser mics. Of course if your cable hits stuff you'll hear it.

  • @vidworxsfx

    I like the LOM MikroUsi as they are really good for sound design because of there Ultrasonic capabilities which as you know yields great file manipulation possibilities when recording at high bit rates. Not anywhere near a Sanken CO-100K but still pretty good at a budget cost in comparison. Thanks for posting but yes they are 2 totally dif mics which is why their frequency response is so different.

    The MicroUsi capsules look very like the Primo EM 258 and appear to have the same specs as the 258. Presumably the output impedance is low because of the XLR voltage drop circuitry but otherwise they appear to be the same. Sensitivity -32db, S/N 74db (Self N 20db) Omni. I'm not saying they are of course !

      I think it's "a secret no secret" that are em258. So as one other producer use DOM 3027 for its "nano" product. These two capsules are on the market, easy to find and easy to be soldered as well. I invite people to try soldering these two capsules to a piece of cable of the desired length and then inserting them individually into a small piece of heat-shrink rubber. Then solder them to a 3.5mm jack plug. All this can also be done with an XLR type connection using the diagram that can be found online (using the adequate resistor and capacitor).
      This is so as not to wait for biblical times to then be able to participate in the assignment usi lottery!
      Also, I invite to try to use the AOM 5024, a great omni capsule (actually I think the cheap and the best... personal opinion obviously! ).

    Guys , please help ! Our local symphony orchestra does just acoustic performances , and needs microphones ! What are the best small diaphragm mics I can get for the money to record them and do live sound ? Behringer C2's ?? They are bit noisy ..whats the next best ??

    • @Oblium
      @Oblium  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It depends from various facts, like how big is the orchestra, where the recordings will take place and its acoustic, which recording techniques you want to use, for example. “The best small diaphragm mic” that fits every situation possible, doesn’t exist :) I use to record a small orchestra inside a church with, piano, harp, cello, violin, flute, and vocals, with 2 rode NT5 in ORTF at about 10 meters away from the orchestra, and one large condenser mic close to the cello (which was sitting in the middle of the stage), to get some extra low frequencies.

    • @Oblium
      @Oblium  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      the MikroUsi Pro needs phantom power, the MikroUsi (not Pro) with 3.5 jack, can be used with a recorder or a sound card with "plug-in power input" (typically 5 volts). Probably there are external pre-amps for smartphones that provide a plug-in power input. :)

I am interested since I would like to record noises and voices during the night hours inside my home. I am now waiting for a bat listening kit to arrive (which I am not interested in but I have other projects\idee) in heterodyne, so it converts ultrasound and makes it audible to ordinary mortals. :) Could you explain or provide a diagram of how these microphones are constructed? Ultrasonic capsule ----> preamplifier --------> IC that performs these conversion tasks? I would have many things to ask about this topic. But I will stop here now. Thank you very much.
