Fascinating, and the book sounds really good.
2.3 million gallons of anything would have tremendous force, and then for it to be heavy and sticky : 0 And then there's this:
"The cleanup in the rest of Greater Boston and its suburbs would take an indefinably longer time (than 3 weeks). Rescue workers, cleanup crews and sight-seers had tracked molasses through the streets and spread it to subway platforms, the seats inside trains and streetcars, to pay telephone handsets, into homes and countless other places. 'Everything a Bostonian touched was sticky.' "
Good thing it wasn't summer, or the smell would have been abominable. It was probably bad enough. I can believe they still smell molasses; it's got to still be in crevices that heat up and expand on hot days : p

I find all of these videos interesting. I love watching them and learning about new places. You should consider doing a video on the Superstition mountain and the Lost Dutchman mine, which is rumored to have a great gold vein, but the miner died before mining it. so many fake maps come up regarding it. there are also weird occurances and legends about the superstition mountains.

The Molasses Flood is pretty bizarre, but to me the most interesting disaster was the Halifax Explosion of 1917. 2000 people killed as they basically watched a burning munitions vessel slowly float into the harbor. The ship caught fire, the crew abandoned it, and the townspeople thought the spectacle was something to see...until they couldn't.

If you're still looking for places to do stories on: Mount Hope Cemetery in Rochester NY is the first Victorian Municipal cemetery in the United States. It's also the final resting place for Susan B. Anthony Elisha Keeney, and Frederick Douglass, as well as Hiram Sibley, John Jacob Bausch and Henry Lomb, Frank Gannett, and Margaret Woodbury Strong, just to name a few.
A block away is Highland Park, one of several Frederick Law Olmstead parks in Rochester. He also designed Central Park in NYC.
Then, there's also the Erie Canal, The Genesee River (the only river to cross NY state completely and it runs North), The abandoned Subway tunnels that were once a waterway bridge for the Erie Canal, and the George Eastman house (and his grave, which is at Kodak park). And, that's a small sampling of what this city offers. It's full of history.
Oh, and the bike trails are frikkin' awesome. The Lehigh Valley trail especially. It was an old rail route that they converted.

Two children under the age 10, two teens, age 17, 18 and a 21 yr old lost their lives. Dozens of horses, many dogs, cats, chickens were also lost. The tank had boilers attached, the molasses was kept near boiling, (so it wouldn’t solidify), to pipe it out of the tank. I feel most for the children and animals, but all lost were totally helpless. The Purity Co., knew the tank construction was sub pa, leakier, groaning night and day, the audacity of Purity to ignore safety concerns. Residents and workers lived within feet of the tank, imagine the suffering by all of a 25’ tidal wave of boiling hot molasses.
