as a Brit, i would say this definitely wasn't a "traditional" fish & chips, however i will also admit that it did look good, the fish looked nice and flaky and fresh, the batter was crisp albeit a little too puffy rather than the crispy, bubbly, crunchy batter it is here and the chips looked ok although again, like you said, they were really "fries" rather than chips (here the only chips you will ever get from any fish & chip shop will be thick big chips even the worst place in the country wouldn't dream of using fries instead). Little odd to see it come with coleslaw and no vinegar though.
As for my favourite type of fish, it's got to be Cod for me.

"Traditional" depends on where you're from. If you're from Southern Ontario like Ken (and myself), that was a pretty traditional fish and chip meal. Halibut, chips (thick cut in house, or like these, likely frozen from a huge potato processor) and cole slaw. I know hailbut is rare at UK chippies, but if you can find some, do yourself a favour and try. It's delicious.

@@johnmckenzie4639 that may be what's normal in Canada, or even just your part of Canada, but you can't call it "traditional", i feel fairly certain if you ask someone about Traditional fish and chips they'll think of British and not Canadian. @@Dave-good36 Duno if you watched the video but it was clearly chips and not fries he was served. They are similar to "The wee hurrie" "Welbecks" "Ferries" "Codfathers" and "Katchs" to name a few shops in my town, one of which won the best British take away of the year for its traditional fish and chips. Just because it's not identical to your local does not mean its not proper fish and chips and curry sauce was not even a thing originally in the UK.

I always look at the batter-to-fish ratio. How I rate good F&C. Has to have great batter and fish, of course.

Most places in The US do not have an option on the fish. I like halibut and cod. Walleye is an excellent choice also.

fish and chips, we usually use hoki fish in new zealand, but blue cod is nice but expensive fish in south island nz, and red snapper is found in north island nz. nice video the fish looked delicious, the chips not chunky enough, prefer chunkier chips :)

Chips are always suspect at places that arent legit British. You can tell from the appearance they arent chipped on site. But are bought in and factory made.

Thick chips all the way here in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Ken. with plenty of salt & vinegar. Jumbo battered sausage goes down very nicely as a cheaper alternative to cod or haddock if you’re ever over here again. We have a number of fantastic chippys local to us, though have our usual go-to takeaway every week of two, often on a Friday night. Another great review Ken, keep up the good work! 👍🏻

I have not had decent fish and chips since my last trip to England. If you want good fish here in Florida you have to catch, clean, and cook it yourself, strangely
Bought the same type of steering wheel tray. Mostly it’s been McDonald’s Sausage Egg McMuffins on it.
Still I can’t bear tartar sauce. Much rather have hot sauce or malt vinegar...
