I remember this project from back in the day. It ended up being one of my favorites because it's a "normal" house (not a multi-million dollar showplace) and they did such innovative things to it, like making the living room the master bedroom and turning the garage into the family room. Very clever - and on a budget!
Just looked at the video. Living in the home today.. and it being of the same old type of thing. It’s amazing . What affordability size and 1/2 acre of property. Are worth . For one’s living assets today.
What I don't like about the modern episodes is the budgets are astronomical. This is a project I could mamage. Sad housing and building costa are so high now. Reason? Massive immigration. Population of the USA doubled from when this program aired.
I don't ever enjoy home improvement shows, but all of bob villas shows have always been a weird guilty comfort for me..lots of old shows and movies from the 40s, 50s,60s and 80s an 90s r always comforting to me
OMG! $50K for a house on a half acre and $8K for a second story! Times sure have changed. Today, the median price for a house in my city is a million dollars. I see listings for old houses like this one on a 5K SF lot for over $700K. The buyer will scrape the house and build a new larger one, then sell it for $1.2 million.
Mostly remember Bob Vila from his appearances in Home Improvement as I started watching This Old House when Steve Thomas was the presenter, Norm Abram and the other tradesmen made the show what it was and pretty much still is. Still nice to rewatch old episodes as it still pisses all over the dross that appears on television nowadays.

On Google maps i saw that the current owners built on top like neighbor Jerry did within the last 10 years. They also brought the large picture window in front back which Bob eliminated for that narrow one. Neighbor Jerry passed away in 2020.
@@craig1974 Thank you! Remarkable how different the area now looks with much more tree growth and changes to the properties. I always thought Bob's end product looked unfinished on the outside and the severe economy he employed in some of the interior work did him no favors, though I suppose it was all part of the theme for this particular series. The current version looks much better.
@ekop1778 a house like the house bob toured wouldn't meet today's standards. Small, not practical, dated. Nothing special about it either. It's your typical 50s ranch. No reason not to tear it down and start over if that's an option.
Excellent way to go back in time. Amazing to think that Bob was the first person to do this kind of TV show. I remember watching this back then. Does anyone know the name of the street in Woburn where this is located?

I'm surprised that This Old House would convert a garage to living space. That almost always hurts the curb appeal of a house and makes a second-rate living space.

Bob driving a 2 wheel Blazer, that’s worth Today-about as much as this House was back then.
WOW this brings back so many memories. I used to watch this show for hours during the discovery channel marathons
Very cool. Affordable home. Bob driving a basic truck not a $60k one. Ty for the video.
Trucks were never 60k back in the 80s
he says the affordable homes sell in the 60's. not a bad deal.

So cool. Everything was cooler back in the 80’s and 90’s
Better. America was less crowded. I really hate what's happened to America.
HGTV wouldn't exist if it wasn't for this Bob Vila

Just been looking on google maps, the house looks different now, it's a double story house, the neighbourhood looks nice, very suburban.
I was wondering if the house was still around.
