4T is not a lot for a class 2B pickup. That would be about 3.25T below the conventional tow rating of the crew cab diesel. Gooseneck adds another 1225KG.
I own the 1500 version of this as well as a f250, the capability these vehicles offer our farming business is supreme no duelcab ute comes close. Only gripe with the chevy is they use waxed chassis ,its a black wax coating that attracts thick dust and requires maintenance to address surface rust in areas where the coating has been depleted. Can't use lanolin or petroleum based oils on it as it softens the factory coating. We put it over a hoist every 12 months and clean and re-coat with cosmoline and black oxide which is the closest product to the factory coating..
Yes, please do a tow test. Can you do one with the same trailer as the other big tow tests you've done and then another tow test with a 4.5T trailer? It can be the same video, that's fine. It would be good to compare it to some of the big wagons that can tow 3.5T. Cheers.

9,000 kg is above the tow rating for a crew cab 2500. The GM 2500HD diesel tops out at 8,480kg on a bed mounted hitch. At 20,000 lbs I would want a 3500.

Thx for the review. We’re in the market for a HD style truck to be a towing tourer, be it ram or Chevy, with a possible Tundra depending on weight figures once released. Would love to see a tow test for the Chevy at 4t+. Would be great if you could manage that. You mention that you could only Tow 3.5t on NB1, and needed NB2 for above 3.5t are you sure about that?
Thx mate, thought as much, we’re thinking of starting at NB1 and see how we go. Might kick it to NB2 if we decide on a canopy. But a bit worried about the LR license and vehicle requirements. Very interested in a towing review, as I’ve heard the Chevy needs a suspension upgrade when towing heavy as it apparently suffers from pretty bad porpoising
Toyo doesn't compete in the HD truck segment. The Tundra competes with the lighter duty F150, Ram 1500, GM 1500. All of these are class 2A trucks. HDs start at class 2B.
The big issue is towing 3.5t or more is the payload at just over 700 kg is very restrictive. Remember if your van is 2.5t then you have to deduct about 250kg from your payload. 500 kg mean 2 people and not much weight in the tray, or 4 people and almost no further weight can be carried. Getting the car registered as nb2 is a lot cheaper than retro fitting it to that. So my advice is in almost all cases if you are towing 2.5 tonnes plus buy it as nb2 speced and you won’t have to worry about your weights again.
Paul, you needs to cover what's in the tray with a rear net or similar, it's illegal to drive a ute having stuff inside and not covered in some way to stop stuff flying out, you will get fined and lose license points if pulled over for this, Ask me how I know !!!

The conventional tow rating on this in the US is 16,000 lbs/7,250 kg. Gooseneck/fifth wheel tow rating is 18,700 lbs/8,480 kg. You wouldn't even notice a trailer that only weighed as much as the maximum towing capacity on a midsize. We don't really even consider the F150/Ram 1500/GM 1500 to be very good for towing.
I drove one of these when I went to America and it is so big and dumb. It is ridiculous how big and stupid it is, wallowing down the road. It had a 5.3L V8 and it felt so slow. however, I loved every second of it and I will hire one again when I go back.
If it had a 5.3, it wasn't a 2500HD. It would have been a 1500, which are sprung much softer. You won't get a lot of wallowing in a 2500HD. I haven't driven the 2500HD with the 6.6L gas engine, but the 6.6L diesel is no slouch. If you make it to Maryland you are welcome to try out my F450.
@@rich7447 It was an RST, 2022 model. That's all I can remember! Massive, red thing. Was very nice, just not great to drive, in my opinion. Like I said though, I loved it. I appreciate your offer, not sure if we'll make it to Maryland this time. furthest we ventured was Bar Harbor in ME rom Burlington, VT.
@@archechme Yep. The RST is a 1500. I think you would prefer the 2500HD crew cab short box. It's about the same length, has a stiffer suspension and the lowest power engine that they offer makes about 100hp more than the 5.3L. The diesel adds about another 60hp and doubles the torque of the 6.6 gas. Vermont is just around the corner! LOL.
I suppose a few people might actually need this thing. I tend to count the number of Mitsu or Isuzu utes you could buy with that money and still have change left. Let alone how big a fleet of GWM or LDV utes.
@@cvytnioy56dvfuj4g7 Yes. The big US utes can tow a bigger load. Some people may need them for that. But for daily ute work the cheaper utes can do most things.

I have a 4WD but my wife and I drive our Kia Picanto (second car) a lot and there are far too many menaces on the road who do what you have suggested - tailgate, threaten, bully and intimidate and it’s not only unsafe it’s also illegal. If people have such small 🍆 and 🎾🎾 that they need to do this - they deserve their licence taken from them and never allowed to drive again. Sorry - but I’m very passionate about road bullies - generally Ute driving Australian males.
Bigger wheel and tyre package Clearview towing mirrors Bigger roll bars will help . And yes would like to see you do a tow test with fully loaded cab etc , people and gear obeying all the rules around payload and GVM ,GCVM etc . Most of these trucks in the USA end up hauling a fifth wheel trailer/RV . They get stuck in sand and mud too easy and if these trucks are from the New York state rust belt ,that nice looking truck will only last 10 years but obviously they are cheaper in the states
Australia de-rates the towing capability on these vehicles to the point where you could fill every inch and still be able to tow at max Aussie tow rating. This truck is rated to tow 22,500lbs on a gooseneck in the US. We also tend to move to a 3500 for larger fifth wheels. Also, these are new trucks right off the production line that get sent to Australia for conversion.
Heres an observation: Next to no usb ports. No 12v. No sunglasses holder, Seats are cheap. Storage bins behind the seats open far too easy, so anything heavy will come out during braking. Tiny middle seat arm rest. Cheap plastic box under the back seat. You can easily lock yourself out. Mirrors are shite. HUD is blurred More alarms then the new ranger Ton of body roll. Honestly they missed an opportunity here, they did the exact stuff with the previous chev models here in aus. Just added a screen and a face lift. I do hope they added a key way to the crank, because thats gonna fail outside of the warranty. Decent driveline.tho.

A towing test. Watching test videos where the vehicle is flooded for an hour, then towels Max load at wide open throttle and tester says, "gee it likes a drink". Real world tests please
@rich7447 the current 150 & 1500 series are generally 760 to 850kg payload - sounds like 3/4 of a ton to me. Note also said WAS ORIGINALLY, it is now more of a class of vehicle than a rating.
@@nigelupton9030 I used to drive a friends in NSW. The trailer was about 6.2 tonne. He had to get me to drive it because he didnt have a truck licence. Is the ADR on the new ones?
Tow rating in the US is 16,000 lbs/7250kg conventional and 22,500/10,200kg for bed mounted hitch. Then you add the 7,800 lb/3,500kg weight of the truck to get GCM. So roughly 10.75T conventional and 13.7T bed for gooseneck/fifth wheel. Anyone using a 2500 for more than 16,000 lbs needs psychiatric help. I have run 14K on a Ram 2500 diesel many times with only one issue that was manageable, but would not have been with a lot more weight.
LOL.
I'd like to know where Paul would park this when he talks about ducking into the city!
Ha ha. It fit in our work car park - it’s in a shopping centre.
@@CarExpertAus interesting. I don't think it would fit in any car park where I live.
They are not difficult to park. I drive an Isuzu NNR VanPack which is nearly 7m long. Easy as to park.
Bring the Ram an F350/250 lariat tremor we need more big boys on the road
tow test!
can we get a comparison between ram, ford, and silverado 2500's , on and offroad, towing and parts availability and reliability .
Can you do a beach test with a camper trailer, please.
yep, next car.
I suppose a few people might actually need this thing. I tend to count the number of Mitsu or Isuzu utes you could buy with that money and still have change left. Let alone how big a fleet of GWM or LDV utes.
But none of the utes you mentioned can do what this can
@@cvytnioy56dvfuj4g7 Yes. The big US utes can tow a bigger load. Some people may need them for that. But for daily ute work the cheaper utes can do most things.
Why no mention of Walkinshaw, who do the remanufacture from LHD to RHD, for Ram, Chev & Toyota ?? 🤷🏻♂️
Its GMSV who does it which is the old HSV factory in VIC.. Walkinshaw is the overall company that owns it.
@@__PJ__
Walkinshaw began converting Silverado 2500 to RHD, back in 2018.
And these Silverado were sold via HSV dealers at this time…
GMSV did not yet exist.
Walkinshaw have been converting Ram since 2013…
Whichever way u slice / dice it etc, various company names r involved etc.
But, the name on the factories is Walkinshaw.
They should be clearly given acknowledgment for what they do, for various manufacturers etc
Walkinshaw is the name that the general public relate to.
Poor form of Paul not to acknowledge and mention Walkinshaw’s role in the remanufacture of Silverado to RHD, in Melbourne
In 2018, Walkinshaw opened a large brand new facility in Clayton South.
Named “ Walkinshaw Park “
Not far from the original HSV premises in Clayton.
At this facility they converted both Ram and Silverado.
In late 2022, all Silverado conversion moved to a brand new facility that Walkinshaw built at Dandenong.
@@StephenFogarty2023 Mate I agree, I own a HSV ( and have owned 10+ V8 Holden's in the past ) and they need their flag flown as they are still doing good for the Aussie car industry !!!

Yes
They certainly are
Glad u like your V8 &
Holden / HSV vehicles. 👍
Can you please review the little dual cab's V the bigger dual cab's V Y62 & L300 V the Isuzu/Fuzo/Iveco dual cab's while towing and rate the fuel and driving ability, thanks Craig
You forgot to do the wading test.
That little side step at the front of the tub looks like it should fold up when not in use. It’s sticking out awkwardly. See video at 31:46
The river has been dry for a while now, hoping it fills again soon.
Paul, why do you never show the engine bay and its features?
tow test please. good review.
What license is required in NSW , LR or MR .?
Just a regular car license for the NB1.
@@CarExpertAusthanks I was more interested in the NB2. A tow test would be interesting. Thank you.
@@phillip.9524 LR then, but do the MR test its the same one day test after you get your LR/MR L's test on the computer at service NSW...
the perfect car to tailgate a kia picanto on the highway
Lol I'm looking forward to being tailgated and flashed on the Hume Highway by these
I will assume you are joking. If not I’ll assume you are a bully with nothing better to do than intimidate other drivers. Let’s hope it was a joke.
Can you do a city test with it?
Find a closed road and overload that thing and see how it tows. I’ll bet you the rated payload is extremely underrated.
8:20 shameless plug for the the drivers show podcast 😂
Blame Sean, his phone was connected and he is a big fan
i used to get 13.1lt per 100 in my 6.6 3500 dually....was tuned though.
Per 100 metres?! 😅
I get similar in my F450.
Bigger wheel and tyre package
Clearview towing mirrors
Bigger roll bars will help .
Heres an observation:
Next to no usb ports.
No 12v.
No sunglasses holder,
Seats are cheap.
Storage bins behind the seats open far too easy, so anything heavy will come out during braking.
Tiny middle seat arm rest.
Cheap plastic box under the back seat.
You can easily lock yourself out.
Mirrors are shite.
HUD is blurred
More alarms then the new ranger
Ton of body roll.
Honestly they missed an opportunity here, they did the exact stuff with the previous chev models here in aus. Just added a screen and a face lift.
I do hope they added a key way to the crank, because thats gonna fail outside of the warranty.
Decent driveline.tho.
Please curious to see a tow test and compair to ram 2500 too please . And could you also test ram 1500 long wheel base . Thank you
If you are looking at 1500s I wouldn't go with a bed shorter than the approximately 6.5 footers.
@@rich7447 i perfer the larger bed as i currently have a long wheel base f250 late 70s model which i use for work and like to be able to fit as much as i can
@@rebekahm4919 I prefer the longer beds too. Current truck has an 8'2" bed.
Just one point, you mentioned things flying around in the tray and coming out and annoying other drivers. Pretty sure it’s illegal to drive with an unsecured load… at least in QLD 🤷♂️
Sure is.
Paul, the reason the Yanky trucks don't come with DAB is because America doesn't have DAB. The have gone down the satellite radio route (Sirus XM for example.).
Please do the tow test
another review yep okay need to load it up with fuel stats thanks maatee
I don't know why but these are like mullets to me - I'm simultaneously repulsed and attracted to them.
How did he do the burnout?
If you're thinking about buying one of these I just want to say, maybe its not that small?... And if it is do you really need to tell everyone?
If you tell everyone you relate a persons vehicle choice to their genitalia then you're telling everyone just how low your IQ really is.
They are a much better choice than the 1500 class or mid-size/mini trucks.
@@rich7447 For the small penis thing?
Tow test please😊😊
A towing test. Yes please, but maybe at 3.5 tonnes, not loaded to the absolute Max as not many people will do that, also when towing, instead of driving like its a race, drive just like a normal user would and see how it goes.
Watching test videos where the vehicle is flooded for an hour, then towels Max load at wide open throttle and tester says, "gee it likes a drink".
Real world tests please
Those mirrors are $7000 each. Don't lose them.
Plz can you review the chery tiggo 8 pro max
Exhaust brake test? Never seen one in a passenger ute haha
What does the 2500 stand for?
Lbs in US, 1500lb 2500lb & 3500lb was originally their way of defining carry capacity
@@nigelupton9030 If this were correct the 1500 would have been a 3/4 ton, but is actually a half ton.
@rich7447 the current 150 & 1500 series are generally 760 to 850kg payload - sounds like 3/4 of a ton to me. Note also said WAS ORIGINALLY, it is now more of a class of vehicle than a rating.
@@nigelupton9030 Yep, but historically the 150/1500s did not have that much payload.
How much would it cost if it didn't have to be converted 🧐
130 to 140
About $85k USD.
I thought it could tow up to 12 ton GCM. I know it does in States. Perhaps that’s for fifth wheeler?
ADR derating applies
I have an F450 now and keep the trailer weight to less than 26,000lbs even though my tow rating is 32,500 lbs.
@@rich7447 Thanks. Great info. Much appreciated.
Whats the Aus new emission laws ok this now ?
If its sold here at a dealer its legal....
